if you lived in the ME universe, would you accept a nonhuman to live the rest of your days with him/her?

As long as the asari won't be getting quarian hips, I'd have to stick with flotilla option. Humans in ME have the unpleasant combination of being selfish, narrow viewed and not having quarian hips.

Wouldn't it be closer to bestiality on their side, having sex with ignorant savages who crawled into galactic space less than one generation ago?  Our best asset is that we can kill things efficiently.  We're nothing more than Krogan to most aliens, only cuter and less resilient.

No. It really isn't.

The key distinction being that both parties are sapient.

Your dog isn't. How does the difference escape you?

Below-average IQ score?

Sex with him would probably be bestiality.

Only if the other party is a "lesser creature". So from the alien's point of view it could be. "You did WHAT with the hairless apes?!"

Kids aren't important to me so i would definitely take an Asari or Quarian over a human, probably a Quarian since they live about as long as a human, that way you don't die on your mate while they are still young as would occur in a human-Asari relationship.

Meaning, living in couple together forever.

For  me, I would say no, simply because you couldn't have kids, or at least not of your own blood if with an asari.
I don't know how the tendencies are in ME, but for me having kids of my own is very important, I know it is selfish but that's how I would decide for my partner in life. Sure I wouldn't mind interspecies sex, hell, I wouldn't try it the first occasion resented, but for the serious buisness I would still pick a human, even if I loved a non-human.

What about you guys, what would you do?

You never herad of artifical insemination? You can have kids just not with that alien woman/man. Just take your sperm/eggs and have it inseminated through some else. If your a woman you can carry it, if your a man you can get a surrogate. And you and your mate can both raise the child.

I would. Children aren't needed to have a meaningful satisfying relationship with someone you love and respect who both loves and respects you in return.

Having said that ...

Below-average IQ score?

Sex with him would probably be bestiality.

The key word here is "sapience."  Not intelligence quotient.

Main Entry: sa·pi·ence Pronunciation: \\ˈsā-pē-ən(t)s, ˈsa-\\Function: noun Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French, from Latin sapientia, from sapient-, sapiens, present participleDate: 14th century : wisdom, sagacity
Source

OR

"Sapience is often defined as wisdom, or the ability of an organism or entity to act with appropriate judgment. Judgment is a mental faculty which is a component of intelligence or alternatively may be considered an additional faculty, apart from intelligence, with its own properties. Robert Sternberg[1]
has segregated the capacity for judgment from the general qualifiers
for intelligence, which is closer to cognizant aptitude than to wisdom.
Displaying sound judgment in a complex, dynamic environment is a
hallmark of wisdom."

[...]

"In science fiction, sapience describes an essential human property that bestows "personhood" onto a non-human. It indicates that a computer, alien or other object (such as "The Luggage")
will be treated as a completely human character, with similar rights,
capabilities and desires as any other human character. The words sentience, self-awareness and consciousness are used in similar ways in science fiction."Source

"Sentience, self-awareness, and consciousness" are more inaccurate terms to use in the case of sapient alien life because animals can also display those characteristics (to varying degress of success).  They are accurate when paired with the understanding that the being possesses the required level of sapience, but inaccurate when used alone without the understanding imparted by the requisite foundation of "sapience."

Therefore, having sex with a dog IS bestiality.  It is merely an animal, not a sapient life form.  The fictional species in ME, those like "turians," or "asari," or "salarians," are sapient creatures and thus it would be accurately termed an "interspecies" relationship.

On topic...if I cared about the nonhuman, sapient being in that capacity, and found a foundation of attraction and respect and all those good things...sure. :P But I wouldn't just because they were nonhuman.

I do find turians generally the most appealing, and have done ever since I first met Nihlus on my first play-through and thought "whoa man, that guy is cool." Asari all have female bodies, which doesn't really do anything for me. Salarians are cool but not quite as cool as turians. Quarians... you can't even see their skin or their faces. For all I know they're the space equivalent of large oompa loompas.  Drell remind me too much of the Selay from ST:TNG. Hanar, too squishy. Elcor, too towering. Batarians, too grabby. Hmm... krogan are cool, though. I could be happy living my life with a krogan, I think. Vorcha, neh. Volus, nah.

So for me, I'd probably restrict myself to the human/turian singles columns.

Dude, it was a joke. Gimme your email address, I'll do you a paypal transfer, give you something for that sense of humour fund.

(And since you seem to be confused, I meant that sex with the poster who said "sex with aliens is bestiality" would be bestiality. I have no problem with the concept of aliens having sex with humans, each other, or even the garden furniture)

I would be open to an alien relationship. So what if we can't have kids? I like kids, but I don't feel like my life is incomplete without one of my own, and it's not like the human race is in danger of dying out any time soon.

As an outsider looking in, I'd say yes. But realisticly speaking, if I was part of that universe, extremely unlikely.

Yeah I would, but only be with an asari. Maybe quarians but I assume there will be too much dry humping in that relationship, for my tastes. So yeah asari only.

Also if you wanted children you could always join up with a batarian raiding party and take as many of the soon-to-be-orphans you want!

That only brings complications.
But anyway, that is my opinion, what would you do?

I'd most likely go with a human because of the whole children thing. Pretty big deal to me to have a couple.  If after the children are born, the relationship doesn't work out, aliens would be a possibility.  Asari, most likely, unless Tali is available:wub:

Turian: Definitely. Not only I could fall in love, I also consider them very attractive. I can't think of any downsides that would make me hesitate.

Salarian: Well... Maybe. Probably. They are more cute than attractive, though. But they seem interesting and I'm a good listener. On the other hand, they have short lives. If I were in love with one of them, I don't think I could stand it. Mordin said they don't usually form life long couples anyway...

Krogan: Ehh... He would have to be very special, otherwise, I don't see it possible. They are too brute, and I don't like their humps at all.

Quarian: I could, though the whole suit thing seems... complicated. Their culture is interesting, they have an exotic accent, and look a lot like men, only with strange knees and three fingers. xD And how horrible can their faces be? Lol, I said I consider turians handsome already, I don't think Quarians could be "worse".

Drell: Ok, Thane is handsome, but I don't think I completely understand how they are in general. The whole "living in their memories" thing, and the spiritual side... I don't know, I can't judge. I'll read more codex entries or play his romance, or something.

Asari: No.

Batarians: I find them very ugly. He would have to be very VERY special, because seriously I would rather kiss a krogan. It's not just the four eyes... Or maybe it's the eyes, that remind me of insects... eww.

The other species are a bit too alien. Also, they are portrayed in very simplistic ways that don't make them very interesting, romance-wise. Hanar don't have faces and are extremely polite, Elcor walk in four legs and are slooooow, etc.

Reading comprehension is important to understanding a conversation and what is actually being said.  I fully understood what you were saying.  I also understood what others were saying.  I was pointing out that IQ is not the qualifier, but sapience is, while addressing the spectrum of individuals and points in the quote tree.

I could dig it. As long as we were in love I would happily go with it, it'd just mean I have to donate sperm or something to pass on my genes.

Oh, well that's okay then. The way you phrased the quotation made it seem like your 'sapience' rant was aimed at me. Guess I'm just too used to my own method of picking apart quotes and replying to different parts separately, rather than quoting the whole thing.

Apologies for the confusion.

I don't think I would. Children is one concern, but another is that, barring Asari mind control, I just don't find Asari that hot. I think it's the lack of eyebrows.

On the other fleshy pulsing tentacle, I would go xeno for Blasto. And Liara, if she had hair instead of head tentacles.
