Hi all!!

I'm playing ME1 for the first time, had several playthroughs with the second and thought I'd give this one a shot, too. But there's something very annoying and I'm wondering if it's a problem on my end, because I can't seem to find a related topic anywhere.

When firing any weapon there's like a blue flash that practically covers the whole screen. It doesn't matter when using a weapon with low firing rate, but as I like to play the soldier and use the assault-rifle, my screen in the end is constantly blue while firing. That's not just terribly annoying, because all I can see are the red triangles of the mobs on a blue screen. It's also causing me a headache and spoiling the game for me.

I have tried all kinds of in-game-settings, added or changed settings in the .ini, but nothing takes effect. I just can't imagine something like this being widely accepted.

Any help would be much appreciated.

H.

That's not normal, sure there are muzzle flashes, but nothing like this.

Well, in the end it is the muzzle-flash and I've just discovered its only when holding down MB2 for aiming. I suppose one could say that I'm moving closer to the muzzle, so I shouldn't be suprised that the flash covers the screen;)

I've reached what we germans would call the limits of my latin. I guess I'll have to close my eyes while shooting the geth...

Mit deinem Latein am Ende? Da wird sich doch sicher noch was machen lassen ;).

(I'll keep the thread in english, so others can take a look at it too)

What are your system specs?

P.S.: If you want to talk in german, just write me a private message.

I'm okay with english. We have to live with so much Denglisch in Germany, I'm sure they can handle a little Engleutsch.

I get the same thing (AMD Athlon 64 x2, Radeon HD 4770). As you say, it only covers the screen when aiming/zoomed in. I figure it's just the way it's supposed to be. (Good thing I'm not an epileptic.)

I know this is a little odd, but you could try using different types of ammunition to see if they look better. They have different colors and/or effects and maybe one might be less headache-inducing than the others. If it's the rapid-fire speed, the Snowblind ammo you get at higher levels will slow the rate of fire down while giving you a damage bonus. If it's the color, try switching between red Incendiary/Inferno, green Chemical/Polonium, and white Cryo/Snowblind, etc.

Alternatively, work around it by using powers instead of weapons, and/or use something like the Pistol or Shotgun that doesn't need to be zoomed in all the time. :)

I was playing it today and i had nothing like this when zoomed in. What i see that you have both an ATI videocard. I have a nVidia videocard. Maybe it's an ATI issue.

I've tried all ammo-types, doesn't make much of a difference. I spent the best part of the past couple of hours trying different settings, doing a complete driver-sweep etc... zilch

It never occured to me to think of it maybe being an ATI issue, so I did some digging just now. Evidently it's not a new problem and, true enough, is primarily an ATI-issue, with some nVidia-cards being effected. On the AMD-Forums there was mention of "hardware bla bla not able to use new shader-models blubb". As my card is relatively new I doubt that can be the problem.

Bottom line: It was a problem when this game was released (was it 2 years ago???) but never solved. Which tells me that I'm not gonna find a solution either. I envy anyone who can ignore or just accept an issue like this, I can't. Using every weapon but the AR is, I suppose, a workaround. But I guess I'm just to anal for that. I'd rather accept defeat than consent to compromise;)

Or as a visionary German band once sang: Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!
