Will not work, your videocard is NOT capable of Shader Model 3.0 which is a minimum requirement. You will not be able to play this game. ME1 will not run too. Both require Shader Model 3.0, your videocard only supports Shader Model 2.0.

I am thinking of upgrading components, video card / power supply and so on. Any suggestions?

There aren't any S478 CPUs worth wasting time with, and the S775 C2Ds are now long out of production. You don't have anywhere to go for a processor upgrade. AGP video cards aren't quite as much of a dead end, but that is only when it is matched to one of AMD's S939 processors.dicedsushi wrote...

Sorry, I just don't see it as a basis for any further expenditures.

Sorry, but you need a completely new PC. I have the same problem with my Athlon XP3200+, But at least i have a Geforce 6800GT AGP and am able to play the game.
There is only slight room for upgrading, but to be honest, your PC is at a dead end. You need a new mainboard, a new CPU, new RAM, new videocard, new PSU. AT LEAST! And that more or less equals a new PC.

The best PCs for game play are always those that are home built, with the Luxury Priced boutique machines in second place, and custom building in third place, although I did find a $1000 machine at Tiger Direct yesterday that could become decent by selling the SLI'd Geforce 9600 GTs in it for $120 + / - on eBay, adding about $30 to that, and getting a Radeon HD 5770, total cost about $1030.

As has been said you'll have to rip out more or less everything. It might make sense to keep case, harddisks, XP (although Win7 is great) and DVD.
Core i3-530, ATI 5770, motherboard and 4Gig of RAM with a new power supply (enermax or other high quality PSU. You'll save every penny you spend on a better PSU on your electricity bill) can be had for $400 and it should play everything at 1680x1050 with high settings until the next console generation comes out.
Everything above's even better, just buy a graphics card that costs a bit more than your CPU and you're gonna be fine (or head over to anandtech or tomshardware for more detailed info)

There is an on-site tech group that Flem1 set up here and he would sometimes reply with a rundown of parts, prices, and URLs for a home build, but I'm not sure how to locate it without access to his profile, and that particular search function is still missing here. Of course, it's been a long while since he vsited any forum here that I monitor on a regular basis, so perhaps he's dropped off the forums for now.

Flem1 did post something new, in the General Discussion forums, not Tech, but here is his group link:Gorath Alpha wrote...
