Gotta be mordin, the sharpest mind on the team, and can process large amounts of tactical data quickly, and is coldly logical. I dont need an XO who goes soft on me, i need one that plays it by the numbers.

Even if you are a number, and he decides your loss is worth it?

Jacob. i'd want my XO to be someone i trust, and who has plenty of military experience, but it also has to be someone who i would have no compunction leaving behind on the ship for every mission. i dont think i could stand doing a mission without garrus or tali.

Garrus. He is a good friend of my Shepard, very loyal and has a lot of leader experience.

This isnt about my survival, its about the fate of the galaxy! If sacrificing shepherd at the end of ME3 is what it takes, then so be it.

Well, the answer is clear. Make Garrus your XO, Tali your Chief Engineer, then act like Kirk and bring them all down to the planet with you, leaving your ship in the hands of gibbering interns and janitors.

And if he should decide that you're to be sacrificed before the end of ME3, because he'd do a better job at commanding the Normandy than you?

Garrus or Tali probably. Although Joker is the Pilot, I'd consider him as well.

Anyone else just wouldn't "fit." Why would you trust any of the new guys with such an important position?

Miranda is the ideal candidate. She successfully lead a 4-billion credit experimental project, so she obviously has exemplary management skills, which is what an XO is for. They take care of the day-to-day operations and logistics of managing a crew so the commanding officer can be focused on tactical and strategic decisions.

Aside from Miranda, and considering the entire crew of both games, the next person in line for the position would be Kaidan imo.

Miranda, Kaidan, or Ashley.  Garrus is too oh whoe is me, and while I love Tali she still has a lot to learn before getting to that position. I don't see anyone else. *shrug*  Jacob lacks discipline and a sense of loyalty.

edit: Kaidan or Ash IF you can get them in ME3, or dlc? ^_~

1. Garrus
2. Jacob
3. Tali (after some LERNAN)

In order top to bottom.

I laugh at anybody who would pick Tali. Seriously, she is an awful leader.

I wouldn't call her an awful leader, she is just saddled with morons on her first mission. I think even Rigor says the second one was almost a suicide type mission.

That said, she is not an ideal candidate for an XO.

This may be odd, but I think Miranda is a good XO, especially for ME 3. Once the end of ME 2 unfolds and she realizes what Cerberus really is, she will be even better. She is good in a fight and has a sound tactical mind.

Grunt.

Knowing that my XO is hosting death matches down in Engineering while I'm gone would give me the peace of mind I need to complete the mission.

My favorite was Kirk's method of diplomacy.

"Mr. Chekov FIRE photon torpedos!"

Add to that the knocking of alien boots, and saving the whales. It becomes undeniable fact that Kirk was BY FAR the greatest captain of the enterprise.

Also, on topic, Garrus is the natural choice... Miranda is more a personal attache.

Id just leave it to Miranda, aslong as she is kept in line she does a pretty good job of it.

Garrus clearly. Wouldn't trust anyone else with that position. Loyal to Shepard, has experience leading and won't make the same mistake that killed his previous group again.

I let my team down, I was betrayed *cry*, must have vengeance!! In ME1; I can't live with all these C-Sec rules!! Doesn't make for a great XO in my eyes. ;) Everyone has a sob story but Garrus seems to be the more emotional one about it.
