Anderson.

It would be my way of saying thanks for the original Normandy.

Actually, I would make Anderson my CO. I will be his XO.

First Officer: Garrus (as has been said, very loyal, plenty of leadership experience, and he gets along well with the crew. He's sorta the Mass Effect equivalent of Will Riker.)

Chief Engineer: Tali (I don't think I really need to explain this one.)

Weapons Officer: EDI or Grunt (EDI would probably be better at the job, but Grunt is the closest Worf equivalent on the crew, and I'm sure Doctor Whatshisname must've programmed in some space combat skills while he was in that tank.)

Science Officer: Mordin (Don't need to explain this one either.)

Helm: Joker (Yeah. Who else?)

I really can't think of any jobs for the rest of the squad... I suppose Jack could man the trash compactor - you know, the one in the bowels of the ship, where nobody would have to go see her... ever.

Miranda, Kaidan, or Ashley.  Garrus is too oh whoe is me, and while I love Tali she still has a lot to learn before getting to that position. I don't see anyone else. *shrug*  Jacob lacks discipline and a sense of loyalty.

edit: Kaidan or Ash IF you can get them in ME3, or dlc? ^_~

How is Jacob disloyal? You pulled that one out of your ass.

How very eloquent of you.. He lacks loyalty quite simply because he jumps away from the Alliance because he disagrees with them then joins Cerberus an organisation he knows and has seen himself how they operate is questionable. He doesn't like Cerberus any more then the Alliance but for now their goals align.

Not someone I'd want to count on as my second. slightly too fickle. Miranda on the other hand shows very strong loyalty, no matter it it's misplaced.

That sounds very much like Shepard.  Good XO it seems then.

Garrus.
I didn't get the sense that Miranda was a very good leader at all, especially after her fight with Jack. She behaved like a child and then pouted in her office for the rest of the game until her lack of loyalty to her commanding officer got her killed. She's certainly not XO material.
In the event Garrus is ashore with Shep, which is often the case for me, then I'd leave the Joker/EDI team in charge. They did recover from the Collector attack pretty well.

She behaved just fine before and when I resolved the situation.  Jack is always out of control.  Miranda thinks you are not a fit CO - and you got her killed.

Garrus. Command experience? Check. Loyal to Shepard? Check. Does not have open conflicts with any of the squad? Check.
If only he wasn't always so busy calibrating=)

Personally, if it came down to a squad member, my Shep would choose Kaidan for XO.

A part of me wonders if the reason Bioware killed off Pressly was so that we could make this choice. Poor Pressly. :-(

Garrus. If the collectors invaded, he would have organised and held off the attack until Shepard returned. His loyalty is a real plus too.

Tali is loyal but if we left her as XO when the collectors invade, Shepard would return to find only her, joker and the mess sergent still around

Jacob is the next decent XO that does not seem totally devoted to Cerberus. He could handle a defensive holdout against a collector boarding party.

Miranda, your normal XO would be good except her Cerberus cheerleader status.

The others are even worse as XOs

Samara would be trying to hold off a collector boarding party by herself which is not a particularly good idea, while Grunt would be charging at the collectors.

Thane would be unable to keep everyone safe though he would be alive when Shepard returns. Legion would conclude it was not a valid tactic to resist and throw himself out of the Normandy so he could be picked up by Shepard later.

Jack would barricade herself in the engineering section and keep herself (and only herself) alive. Zaeed would also barricade himself and what others he could grab (likely gabby and donnelly) but that would be all.

I would like to say samara because see has "alot" of time and has seen alot plus I believe I could trust her because of the code and all but also garrus would prob be the one I choose just because after everything him and shep has been through there is a big trust between those two.

Garrus.

His loyal, leadership skills and tactical, has best interest in mind, able to follow orders, respects shepard.

i think his got a lot of potential for me3. i mean he was considered spectre material, his run on both sides against 'crime' (vigilante and C-sec books), has already lead a team himself. i think if they were to progress his character-it would involve him stepping up, out of shepards shadow. showing what his learn't so far, from me1-2.

how he deals with it would involve shepards example. sort of like lawful-good/chaotic-lawful? lol

You need a leader for that position, meaning Garrus

Tali knows nothing about leading a ship

I was thinking about that while making coffee. ;)

It looks like Tali has authority among her people. There's even a guy who cannot get used to call her by her first name. Also, she mentioned that some would like her to take over the role of her father, even though the quarians do not inherit such positions. In one of the missions she also feels comfortable ordering her crew around and it seems she doesn't have a problem correcting her crew when they do not obey her orders. She has combat experience.

She may be young and lack experience, but at some point people have to learn. If thrown to the wolves I guess she would do well.

Garrus seems to do whatever he pleases and seems to have a problem with authority as well. Ashley and Kaidan do not trust you, so I wouldn't want them in charge of anything. Liara has this weird Shepard obsession, even if she wasn't your LI. She is even capable of selling your body to Cerberus. She feels guilty about it or feels that you might not approve (in my case she is right) and that's why she acting strange. To me that means she is too unstable for a leader role. For some reason Wrex has to take care of his people. From the new crew only Miranda seems capable, but I don't know her well enough and I am not sure if she really has chosen my side.

So my vote goes to Tali. ;)
