"EDI, Hold off on installing the IFF for a bit. we've got it, it's not going anywhere, let's focus on building the team."
But noooooooooooooooo.

I thought this would be the best solution too.

It is not the time constraint that makes me sad, I understand that and agree with it. But it makes it that you have to pick up Legion last. Or if you squeeze it in tight. You have him for 1 mission and his own loyalty mission (2 total) before the Collector Attack trigger. You can have him for a longer time if you are willing sacrifice your crew. For those of us that like those two quirky engineers, it is not an easy choice to do.

The first is speaking to Citadel security about the threat of Geth infiltration with Legion standing right next to you (and sadly they didn't write any script for this possibility so everyone acts like walking around with a Geth by your side is a-ok.
The second is taking Legion onto the Quarian flotilla - where unfortunately they did write some limited dialogue for it, all of it incredibly badly written - goes along the lines of:
Shepard boards ship and Quarian guard/Admiral/Captain/whatever vehemently protests at Legion's presence.
Shepard then says something ridiculous like 'The Geth is part of my team and where I go, my team goes!' To which the Quarian then basically says 'Oh...er...alright then'.
I'd have much rather have seen a cutscene where as soon as you set foot upon the flotilla with Legion by your side, there's just a Quarian firing squad waiting for you - no dialogue - they just open fire on all 3 of you. The when the Game Over screen pops, there's a little sub-caption that pops up 'Don't be such an ignorant jackass next time'.

It's not just the inability to recruit him until so late, it's his absence entirely. I wish they had gone with the original idea of having him stalk you throughout the game until you can recruit him. Would have been interesting.
omg, that would've been SO great... every once in awhile you catch a glimpse of a geth who vanishes before you can catch him, and enemies every so often just go down, confusing the party.

I think having a Geth in your party is very wrong and ruins the story. See how quick your Shepard takes him in after activating Legion is a little unbelievable.I could care less there was a heretic group out there killing organics. After fighting the f@@kers for the last two years I have a personal hate on for them .

Well Miranda has an option for that. Why didn't you take it?

Going with this logic, you could argue you shouldn't recruit Garrus either, what with the whole first contact war. Heck, you shouldn't even be recruiting humans, considering how many you've killed and fought.

You were dead for the last two years bro. It was the heretics who did the impaling, not the othe faction. You always have the option to just send him to TIM. You should probably skip recruiting Garrus, Wrex, and Grunt on any ME or ME2 play through.

You are missing my point.Through the first and recent game Shepard and his crew have been fighting the Geth and then suddenly to bring one onboard, activate it and trust it is a little unbelivable.Turians are not a current threat. The Geth are.
