You know, after the boss and the ship just flies away? And then you enter disc 2.

Ive always wondered, if you beat the boss under a certain time limit or something, is it possible to save the colonists?

Nope. Sorry to disappoint.

No, a few though, but not significant. There is a time limit for the crew however.

They are destined for salvation through ascension and destruction. It is inevitable.

You can save your entire crew as long as you go almost directly to through the Omega relay. You have time for Legion's loyalty mission only.

No but if you stop at the greeting kiosk when you land on the collector base you can have a free Human-flavored slushy. So refreshing. Made with no natural sweetners. And remember, only losers drink Paragade.

Sadly not; they've all begun a rewarding new life as a Reapers nipple by the time you stumble through the Omega 4 relay.

No, you can't. The colonists actually die.

The whole thing is measured through missions though.

Between getting the reaper IFF and your crew getting kidnapped you have space for 1 mission (which is usually used for Legions loyalty mission).

I haven't tried this but I always thought that after the horizon mission if you rush to the IFF and the final mission without doing any of the loyalty missions you would be able to save them, but you would loose a lot of your crew members because of lack of loyalty. Like I said I haven't been able to confirm this either in game or through other people. I will though soon.

I'm almost positive this is correct, I just haven't found the article that I read it in.
You either get Legion's loyalty and finish everyone else up, or you go through and you can save everybody.
It's one of those sacrifice choices that leaves a bad taste in your mouth if your sentimental.

If you wish to keep the entire crew alive the best way to do
this is to wait until completing all loyalty missions, then going to
obtain the IFF. This gives you time to gain Legion's loyalty before the
crew is abducted. At this point you can go straight through the Omega 4
relay and save your entire crew as well as keeping your squad alive
(depending on the decisions made in the Collector base).

If you do not enter the relay immediately and continue to do other assignments, 4 or more, Kelly Chambers and all members of the crew will die in the Collector base and Doctor Chakwas will be the only survivor.

If you do 1 - 3 assignments after the Collector's attack, about
half of the crew including Kelly and Gabby will die. However, Doctor
Chakwas, Ken and some unnamed crewmen will survive. You can still do
Legion's Loyalty mission so long as you do not land on any planets or
stations (ie... any assignment, The Citadel, Omega, etc.), as the game
registers these as time, and the entire crew can still survive.

If you enter the relay immediately, only Lilith (a colonist
from Horizon) will die instead. This holds true as long as you do no
assignments after the Collector attack. (e.g. you said you will delay
the final mission, but you do it right away anyway)"

You can save your crew but nameless colonist #35 always gets turned into goo.

You have time for Legions mission before the event is triggered do the IFF mission early though and it will be costly.

Why is everyone mentioning the Normandy crew? The OP is CLEARLY talking about the colonists on Horizon. Since when were the crew of the normandy referred to as colonists?

Learn to read.

No, it is impossible to save the colonists. Sad, but true. A simple fact of the story. As with poster above, the OP was asking about the colonists, NOT the crew.

I'm still confused as to why Ash/Kaiden got left behind. Weren't they near Lillith? Might have been an interesting mission to try and rescue them. Well, better than the shafting they got in ME2 anyway. ;)

Plot armour rendering them invisible to Collectors. ;)
