I have just completed my first run through with an infiltrator and now want to go again with either the sentinel or engineer, however I cant seem to decide i'd hate to choose one then get bored half way through. Just wanted to know which one of the 2 people prefer, and why?

I played both and had a lots of fun with both. But all in all the Sentinel fit more my personal playstyle. Tech Armor is very useful for the Shield Boost and every time your shield depletes it causes a shockwave that knocks nearby enemies to the ground. Very useful defense, only downside is the pretty long cooldown.

For offense you have Warp and Overload. Doesn't sound much, but Heavy Warp is pretty strong. Even on Veteran you do massive amounts of damage. Especially if you combine Warp with other biotic powers (Pull,Throw,Reave etc.) to cause a Warp Explosion.

For Weapons Training i suggest Assault Rifle or Sniper Rifle. Maybe Shotguns if you like the Eviscerator Shotgun.

Bonus Power, i'd choose Armor Piercing Ammo. That boosted the mediocre weapon damage of the Sentinel a lot. Also you're strong against armored enemies. The only thing where the Sentinel lacks a bit.

I have played both and preferred the Engineer. Both play similiarly but it felt to me like the Sentinel had slightly better damage output while engineer had significantly better control due to drone. In actual fact i found the drone to be a better survival tool than tech armour but your milage may vary.

That drone helps out a lot.
They are both great classes IMO.  To me they are the 2 best classes in the game.  For the Sentinal, I  max out passive, overload, reave, throw, and tech armor.  I don't use cyro blast and I like reave better than warp.
For the Engineer I max out passive, incinerate, overload, reave and split combat drone and AI hacking.

I agree. Sentinel feels different every time I play it. Engineers can create a small army.

sentinel is my favorite class. it is a lot of fun and IMO has the best skills available. Warp and Overload are crucial, cryo blast is really fun to use and tech armor is also great. I never use throw though, so that is a skill i would skip imo.

also upgrade to Assault Rifle and use your bonus skill for Armor-piercing --> Tungsten and you will be an unstoppable animal of biotic and tech destruction.

I like to just get a teammate to use squad ammo. It frees up room for another power. Dominate can be used to actually allow you to explode your own warps, while reave and energy drain make good assault sentinels.

My opinion between the two is bias; I successfully ran through hardcore and insanity as an Engineer and it is by far my favorite class between both ME1 and ME2. It carries all the necessities a class needs for a successful insanity run (espacially for beginners).

For those that chose to ignore AI Hacking, like me, Cryo is truly incredible as a CC. Using it on Krogan in mid-charge or using it on a group of collectors only to shatter them into little shards is quite fulfilling. Incinerate is perfect for organics that either have armor or don't have armor. In addition, to those organics that are in the red, Incinerate serves as a good way to control the target while you burst them with your SMG. Overload helps you get to the armor by removing the shield and is extremely useful vs synthetics, thus there are no fights in the game where you would be lacking against either organics or synthetics. Last but not least, the Drone; a wonderfully designed power that can be used on all the tough targets such as Harbinger, YMIR Mechs, Krogans and even the Reaper larva (if you time it correctly).

The overall experience of the class is challenging but rewarding. Every fight needs a strategy and nothing is more enjoyable than being able to manipulate the battlefield.

I do, however, intend to play a Sentinel during my next Insanity run. I am definately a fan of the tech in ME2.

PS, if you need help with builds, strategies, uses for drones or anything of the sorts, feel free to message me personally. :)

Dominate works amazing well with a Sentinel. And no ability makes fighting Collectors more fun. Harbinger and you race to take control of all the minions, making them fight each other for fun and profit :)

What is the most useful loyalty power that the sentinel can have?

Depends on how your talent points are allocated for the other powers.  I don't use Warp with my Sentinal, so for me the best loyalty power is Reave.

Another question, is it possible that on the first play through if you choose to use assault rifle training on the collector ship and then on the 2nd play through you choose it again you can get the M-76 Revenant Light Machine Gun?

No, you can only choose once. You won't get another Weapon training on your second playthrough.

You can exchange it though correct?  Say you play Engineer and you picked Sniper Rifle the first playthrough, the next playthrough you can drop that and pick up Assault Rifle or Shotgun right?

That blows, I thought I remembered having the choice with my Sentinal's 2 playthroughs.

Depends on how your talent points are allocated for the other powers.  I don't use Warp with my Sentinal, so for me the best loyalty power is Reave.

If you're choosing not to put points into Warp, which offers the potential of putting no points into Throw as well, Reave is obviously the most useful power to pick up.  Required, almost.  I can't imagine not having Warp or Reave on a Sentinel.

But there are some other options (just ones I'm thinking of as good choices, surely there are other good options).
AP Ammo - A Sentinel already has a good mix of powers, so the passive buff of AP Ammo is awesome.  Warp Ammo has a case for it as well, but in my opinion, AP Ammo beats it out.
Energy Drain - Duplicates Overload, except it doesn't have the stun or weapon overheat, but it does steal your opponents shields and refill yours.  Lets you ignore Overload.
Dominate
- This is my current favorite.  Like AI Hacking, but for organic targets.  Not fully versed on its pros/cons yet, but it shares some similarities with Reave, in that it offers a crowd control of similar duration and radius.  Obviously it does no damage to protected targets, but on unprotected targets, rather than simply standing still, they attack enemies.  So, no direct damage, but anything dominated will draw the fire of any enemies in the area, so it kinda has a heavy duty indirect damage component.

I've found that Dominate works quite nicely if you make it a priority to drop the protections of a target and dominate it ASAP, and by the time that dominate has worn off, chances are you will have a couple of choices of targets with no protection ready to be dominated again.  Battles have been breezing by really fast with it.  I'm extremely impressed :)

(Also, dominating a Collector at the same time Harbinger mind controls another, watching them duke it out is hilariously awesome).

Edit - I used to swear by AP Ammo, but Squad ammo buffs are excellent, and really open up your options, which is great.

This is my current playthrough
Throw Field 4
Warp 0
Power Armor 4
Heavy Overload 4
Cryo Blast 0
Guardian 4
Heavy Reave 4
I use the throw field mainly for groups like husks.

Right now I am playing Engineer and I may just like it better than any of the other classes right now. I see a lot of video with players just shooting and using an occasional power and not using their squad powers. Not me, I get max usage from my other squad-mates powers. It makes a huge difference whenever you take advantage of their talents instead of just depending on them to do it for you.

Sentinel was fun but the gameplay became pretty redundant. Use armor, then warp or overload, then use cryo or just shoot them.

The Engineer is by far my favorite class. You have a lot more options, and there is no one-trick pony. There are also a lot of different ways to build the class. Most other classes have staple skills that the general populace accepts the necessity to upgrade or max out. But you can build the Engineer in so many ways, leaving some powerful skills out and still performing well in combat. In my opinion it is by far the most enjoyable, customizable and strategic class.

Sentinel with ArPen Rounds as the bonus. You have Warp for Barriers, Overload for Shields, and the ArPen for Armor. On top of this you have a built in damage buffer with Tech Shield, and also Throw.

I didn't use Cryo Blast, but you have that available if you so choose.

IMHO, Sentinel is the best class to tackle an Insanity mode with.
