So I beat ME2 three times, my first playthrough was with my imported main FemShep- lost Mordin flirted with Kelly. Started a second with that same Adept FemShep, kept true to Liara and kept the team alive while destroying the base and pissing off TIM.
Third playthrough was with my original ME1 FemShep (who I tried to recreate as my main, but turns out the original is hotter) who I switched to Soldier and played on Insanity, also took Thane as a LI (achievement) so there's gonna be some Liara reprocussions...
I wanted to start a MaleShep but realized my highest was a lvl 52 Engineer from ME1. Ungh, so I decided to go back and do another playthrough with that Shep so I could import a lvl 60 MaleShep with Ash as an LI (had Liara first time)- totally planning to hook up with Jack or Tali... haven't decided yet. This is for Ash telling me how corny my pickup lines are in ME1and the whole "Williams women don't need men, blah, blah"...
Anyway, as I got back to playing ME1, some things jumped out at me:
1) Cover is handled sooo much better in ME2.
2) I found myself hitting 'X' a lot after firefights (even though there is no need to reload in ME1) as a matter of habit and not a hinderance to gameplay.
3) Playing through ME1 with an existing high lvl starting character has it's drawbacks. For instance, loot becomes more a burden than a blessing. All of the level 10 ammo sucks except for the Inferno Rounds, so I had to make sure I kept some of the Tungsten/Shredder 7 rounds AND didn't sell them when I was selling stuff off. 95% of the weapons and armor are junk. SPECTRE gear trumps all weaps and is easy to get. As for armor, Colossus is a pain in the butt to find, Phantom looks cool and the Geth Krogan armors are also hard to get, but cool. Predator L/M/H is a good substitute for any of the above and the rest is Omni-gel.
4) 'Useable' objects, doors, crates, etc. are FAR MORE easily identified in ME1. In ME2, I found myself playing "marco polo" a lot with the lable at the top of the screen and not looking at the enviroment.
5) I missed the Mako. Yes, the physics were a bit crazy. It seems they wanted the physics to be real, but at the same time, you couldn't flip over. (well, not that you couldn't it was just made really difficult.) However, I did have an epiphany (sp?)- they could have come up with a 'tech' explaination to have mini thruster jets (much like what is on the bottom) tied to the steering at points all over the body of the mako. Kind of like attitude, pitch, yaw and roll thrusters on a space shuttle. That way, if you are pointing the stick forward, and you hit a bump and start to spin, the appropriate thrusters fire, re-aligning the mako in the direction you are steering. THAT would have saved A LOT of headaches, IMO.
6) I appreciated the N7 missions in ME2 trying to be different from the same underground/above ground bunkers that curses ME1.
7) Amazingly, your teamates wear HELMETS and fully enclosed armor on planets that don't support life, even if they are toggled off...
8) The armor skins in ME1 aren't as interesting overall as what you have in ME2.
9) The rate of fire on the Pistol is not as good as I remember. Master Marksman is a must.
10) Global cooldown sucks. With any sort of Specialization class in ME1 + full SPECTRE training, you can practically spam your powers anyway.
11) Hated the fact that nothing ever amounted from the gathering resources/ Matriarch's Writings/ Prothean Data Disks/ Turian Insignias/ Locate Signs missions. You'd think that something new would be discovered from completing these, even if it were something that came to fruition in ME2...
12) Sniper Rifles are a lot funner in ME2. ME 1 Sniper Rifles are nigh pointless. I've found that I've used a variety of weapons in ME2 in different situations (not just because I ran out of ammo, err, heat clips) as compared to ME1 where it was either Assault Rifle or Pistol and no in between.
13) The immersiveness of the elevator rides, the stairs, and the long trek to the Normandy just about balances with the ease at which you can get back to your ship in ME2. Both ways work for me.
14) High level Liara pwns everything on difficulty lvls lower than Insanity. (playing on normal so I can bust through this playthrough quickly)
That's all I have for now, just wanted to share my thoughts.
Playing ME1 again makes me appreciate ME1 and ME2
