If I already have a retail box of Dragon Age preordered, will I be able to pop the CD key into Steam(or Impulse) for safe keeping? I tried some forum searches and I can't find an answer.

Thanks!

Why would an online service do that? They didn't get any money off the purchase.

I don't know how this newfangled social site will work, but the old Bioware community site let you register your CD-key with your account. If you lost the key, you could retrieve it from there, as long as you had your account name and password (obviously).

That's all well and good but Steam and Impulse still don't allow you to enter in a retail CD key into their services. As noted, they get nothing out of it.

Impulse actually allows you to enter your retail CD key for 'Sins' and download it as many times as you want. But thats only because the game is published by Stardock.

I was able to register a retail copy of The Orange Box on Steam, but perhaps that was because it is a Valve game

they allow some third party games that they sell on steam to be bought retail and then registered but DA:O is not on the list right now i don't understand why, all third party games that get sold on steam should be aloud to be registered :-(

I bought Dragon Age retail and I love the game however I also run Linux. Unfortunatly DAO retail will not run in linux as it does not recognise the CD. I was hoping I could register my CD key with Steam and use the Steam version in linux but it appears I can't do this. i've done it with other games in the past (Dawn of War afair) would love if I could do this with DAO also.
