Also putting the system into safe mode with networking, and running the patch worked for my wife's laptop.

Here is the latest information on BDtS for PC:

1) Contact EA Support.
2) Tell them you are reinstalling ME and your CD key for BDtS no longer works.
3) Support should be able to resolve the matter within minutes.

Here is a paraphrased version of my online support chat:.

EAS - Hello, thank you for using EA Support.
ME - Howdy. I have a Steam copy of Mass Effect, and I have the Bring Down the Sky DLC, but the CD key I have is not working with its installer.
EAS - Please download the BDtS installer from this link. http://blahblahblahblah.
EAS - You will need to use this CD key with it. ASDF-1234-GHIJ-5678-KLMN
ME - Can I use the installer I already have for BDtS?
EAS - Please use the installer I directed you to, and activate it with the CD key I gave you.
ME - OK, downloading.... OK, I'm running it, now.
ME - It worked just fine, and the game shows the DLC is installed.  Thank you for helping me out.
EAS - I'm happy to hear I've resolved your problem. Is there anything else I can do for you?
ME - No, that's it. Good-bye.
EAS - Thank you for using EA Support, and have a nice day.

-Khalaq

PS. (Pinnacle Station still needs to be downloaded using Origin - formerly known ad "EA Downloader.")

I've been around and around with the L1 and L2 live chat reps all giving me the same CD key for BDTS for which the activation limit has been reached. The newest excuse is their tool to increase the activation limit is not working. For those that were given a key that worked in your installer, were the 1st 4 digits 3FLL? If so, then I'll wait for the activation limit to be increased once again because that gives the hope that they are indeed increasing the activation limit on the same key that they give out to everyone.

I got a key which starts with 3FLL and it worked fine. Didn't have any activation limit issues.

Anyway, I had two BDtS keys connected to my old BioWare account; I bought a second copy of ME after overusing my first CD-key. I only hope they'll be able to provide any one of those keys, I'm not interested in any other DLC for the game, Pinnacle Station was utter crap.
Edit:
Also, BioWare needs to make it a priority to do something about this. The old BioWare forum accounts are still connected to the EA master accounts, as far as I know, so there shouldn't be any major problem giving access to data assosiated with them, somehow.

Edit 2:
As it turns out, I now have used up the activation limits on both my ME keys. That makes me a sad panda. I guess there's nothing for it but to getting that interractive comic, I'm not purchasing a third copy of ME.

1) Security and safety of your information is solely your responsibility. Unfortunately, noone is under any obligation to back up your data for you. The old forums being hacked, and consequently taken down, is a good example of why you should not trust your data to anyone elses safe keeping.

2) EA support will be able to deal with the activation limit with your 2 copies of ME, so you will not have to purchase a third copy. You could have dealt with them once you hit the activation limit on your first copy and then avoided purchasing a second copy.

Interesting. I followed the directions given on the first post and hit the proverbial brick wall when it comes to the actual cd key. So i hooked up live chat with EA's support staff, and within 8 minutes, i walked away with my cd key. Didnt even have to prove that i did in fact own mass effect 1. Still, it is a free DLC so i cant complain.

I've been waiting to chat with someone for around 20 minutes now, and still have 44 minutes to go, apparently. This sucks.

I just spent the last 45 minutes talking to an incompetant tech support member from the EA online Live tech support... conversation verbatum:

Atom: Hi, my name is Atom. How may I help you?
2295386353: hello, was wondering if there was a way for me to get a CD key for my Bring down the sky DLC for Mass Effect 1? The on site instructions do not work as the original forum support was removed
Atom: Okay.
2295386353: I'm using the Steam version of ME, if it makes a difference
Atom: May I know from where have you purchase the game?
2295386353: From Steam
Atom: Okay.
Atom: Have you register the game before?
Atom: In you account?
2295386353: once before the forum support was removed
Atom: Have you got the key?
2295386353: i do
2295386353: *key was here*
Atom: Have you register the game?
2295386353: I have as far as I'm aware
Atom: Yes.
Atom: Hello?
2295386353: was waiting for your responce as to what to do next
Atom: Well you haven't answer my question and I was waiting for the answer.
2295386353: which question?
Atom: Have you register the game? In your account?
2295386353: I gave you my CD key and said I've registered my game as far as I know
2295386353: considering I can't register my CD key itself on my EA account... only add the ME game itself
2295386353: there is no option for a CD key entry
Atom: Can you play the game?
2295386353: yup
Atom: Okay.
Atom: It means you have purchase the game in digital version?
2295386353: yes
Atom: As in the digital version of the game you don't need to register the game.
Atom: Can you play online mode?
2295386353: what do you mean by online mode? Mass Effect doesn't have an online multiplayer option, it works with my steam in online mode if thats what you are refering to
Atom: Okay.
Atom: Sorry about it.
Atom: May I know what is the exact problem you are facing?
2295386353: I need a CD key for the Mass Effect One DLC Bring Down the Sky....... As I said when we first started this conversation.... -.-
Atom: Yes I can know that.
2295386353: nevermind... i'm going to call tech support and talk to someone competent, as you've asked me questions i've answered multiple times already, good day sir
Atom: May I know the reason why you need the code?
You have disconnected."

Hoping calling them directly will be a little bit better -.-

I got this game (with the dlc's) on xbox... I want to get me1+2 on the pc through origins but I'm afraid I wont get "Bring down the sky" to work after reading this. From what I can read I cant be guarenteed that it will work but if I'm lucky however I might? Seems fishy.

Kafka would have a better time getting BTtS. Following instructions about going to •http://masseffect.bioware.com/me1/galacticcodex/bringdownthesky_pc.html then clicking where I then must register here http://www.bioware.com/ only for there being no way whatsoever to register my old copy of Mass Effect. Ill just have to do without.

You dont need to register ME1. Just contact EA support for a BDtS product key, like it says in the first post of this thread.

Just got off live chat with support, and after they gave me 2 different keys (among a lot of technical jargon that didn't resolve it) and neither worked, I pretty much gave up.

Okay got BDTS back online easy peasy.

Fortunately Origin says I own Pinnacle Station as well. It even has my code under the info tab. But when I try to "play" it from the Origin menu page, it starts the configuration utility and then nothing. I start up the game and it doesn't recognize that I own it. and under DLC tab it just has BDTS.
I try to re-"redeem" the content but doesn't apply the files.

Any help on this would be great.

Tried that. Ended up with a Pinnacle Station key when the chat person clearly wanted to give up.

I'm going to try email tomorrow.

Has EA changed their website? I recall that I could access the "Bring down the sky" faq and links to the ask, but now neither links here or anywhere else seem to get me to the infernal support chat so I can get my Bring down the sky key.

Anyone else able to access it? It just leads me to the start of the help center whenever I try any links.

I am pretty sure I wrote that neither links here nor elsewhere seems to lead me to the EA support chat, nor can I find it on their webpage. Can't seem to find the Bring down the sky FAQ either, which I am sure I did last week when I was searching for how to once again get the BDTS dlc.

So I have it patched, the DLC but I lack the CD key, but I can't access anything useful on the EA. Just FAQS, no chat, no email adresses.

So no, I did not find all my answers in the first post because EA seemed to have changed their site these past few days, which is also why I asked if anyone else can access is.

When i checked my bookmarks this morning, they worked fine. Now is not the case. EA's live chat is now called "Level Up". Go to the ea website, login using the same account that you use here, click on help, and then click on the level up link. You should be able to talk to a rep then.

Ah, completely missed that it seems, thanks for the help.

I'll just blame EA rather than my own stupidity! I'm glad it's working in any case.

If only the EA support page wasnt so difficult to use...

The FAQs didnt lead me to anything having to do with bring down the sky DLC(Or ME1 DLC's in general) and i dont see a way to submit a direct ticket. Is there a way to submit a ticket or another way to get the CD key for BDtS?

Thanks in advance.
