I instaled Mass Effect 1 and when i run it, it gives me an error message saying "Failed to find default engine .ini file to retrieve My Documents subdirectory to use. Force quitting."



anyone know how to fix such a problem?

It is nice and welcome that this thread is here. But why is EA support so bad? If you follow the link in the game installation, you are more likely to end up on EA's "support" *spit* area with an almost useless search feature and if you find an update at all, it's not the latest patch.

I am bamboozled how EA can be so successful while offering support so bad. DragonAge support is no better!

Note: the forum account you need to be logged into to download BDtS is an account at the old http://forums.bioware.com/site.  If you don't already have an account over there enter the email address and password you used to sign up here on the sign-up page.  You account here is the "EA Account" its asking for.

You must register your Mass Effect CD Key with that account to get the CD key to install BDtS.  The registration page is http://accounts.biow...mepc_cdkey.html

This just isnt working for me any more, it used to, but it no longer wants to load the pages needed to download the dlc, and now im stuck with saves i cannot load because i need the dlc (running mass effect off steam, rebuilt comp and lost the dlc but kept the saves)

Works for me. That page loads and I'm able to begin a download of the English installer.

Just checked (Jan 11, 2011, 8:50 pm EST). Page loaded and "Download (English/Spanish)" link was right there. Already have BDtS (and ME1 patch 1.02, both thanks to this thread!) so didn't try to d/l it again, but everything seemed to be working fine...

I bought the EA classics reissue of the game (European Multi5 version). It says on the box that it includes Bring Down The Sky.

I installed the game (the config tool crashed, probably because of the new hardware), patch 1.02 fixed that. Now, the config tool displays keys for both the game and the DLC, but when I start the game, the DLC list in "Options -> Downloadable Content" is empty. I installed the DLC from the link above, and now everything's OK. But what's the point of this, to include the key and not the actual DLC? Especially when the DLC setup performs the server check.

Hopefully the patches will allow me to run the game, I just downloaded and installed ME1 and when I click on either Play or Configuration on the launch screen it crashes. I guess if it was easy everybody would be playing it. Don't wan that do we. My guess is that my quad core AMD processor is freaking it out as there is a listing in the patch details that mentions that crashing problem.

Thanks for the links the patch worked but I'm having trouble with 'Bring Down the Sky'. I'm having the same problem that someone else was, I put in my BDtS CD key and then the installer pops up saying "Installation Cancelled" in big bold letters with no explanation what so ever.

The BDtS code is NOT the CD-key for the game itself, (but figure you knew that.)

Did you buy ME new, or used? If used, maybe the original purchaser already activated the code, and it's tied to their BioWare Boards account. In that case, you won't be able to use it again...

I had the latest game patch (1.02) applied before I installed BDtS.

After I enter my name and password there it just resets itself. It doesn't say I used a wrong name or password either (which it does when I use a wrong password) but it just doesn't react when I log in.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I tried it both on Internet Explorer and Firefox.
