I absolutely cannot create a good looking dwarf. Male or female. Plus there is no romance option really for a dwarf. Romance with a human or elf is just.....wrong. When you enter a new area, everyone is looking down. It's just weird. Plus their arms are freakishly long. My sis says I'm a heightist.
And yes, I was wondering that myself.

None of you can play a Dwarf because none of you are used to handling that much awesome at once.

I personally love dwarves, but my longest dwarf character got out of Lothering and has been chillin' at Denerim ever since. I have no idea why I can't play as one, since I prefer dwarves in fantasy. Propably similar thing with my mage characters being elf, never human (and no, never used any other elf origins :S)

I've always had this problem myself, I think dwarves are pretty cool actually but I've never made one in any game, until Dragon Age. The Dwarven Noble origin, which I played just to see, was so awesome I stuck with the character and will definitely finish the game with him. I love the Machivellian twist on dwarves in this game.

I think the main problem is that obviously, humans, I can identify with. Elves are like humans, but lithe and with air of mystery and magic and tend to be exceptionally attractive so... yeah, that's easy to get into. Dwarves are violent, hairy midgets and while that's always awesome I rarely want to BE that guy. That's why I love the more political aspect of dwarves in Thedas.

Dwarves give a higher sense of camaraderie to me than the other races, which is a huge plus. While this is obviously not the case, as they're probably the most culturally segregated, I like to picture my Dwarf as that stereotypically charismatic stump not unlike those of Tolkien. It's just those Dwarven women and their arms...if they were just a forearm's length shorter, I'd be all over them like Gollum and his Precious.

I don't have a problem playing any of the races. Maybe 'cause Iam short only 5 foot 1 :P

Elves are my fave though. Played thorugh an elf on first play through. Now playing a male dwarf noble who does all the evil things I didn't want to do with my elf. For some reason I find it easier doing evil things as a dwarf. It's kind of weird romancing a human as a dwarf though, he just loves them and leaves them.

But I have to say male dwarves are quite ugly and look really weird without a beard. I don't like much facial hair on men, a bit of stubble is ok. But dwarves need to have a beard, which I don't like but they look even worse without one.

That's exactly the experience I'm having! I could never get into the evil side of this game until I started playing a Dwarf. It just seemed more natural for that character.

I think playing a Dwarf for an evil character would be fitting for the reasons of their politics are very dog eat dog and they owe humans or any race above NOTHING as they don't get the support for the darkspawn from any of them but yet when it goes upstairs then everyone wants to be their friend to help. When I get my female dwarf tuned she is not going to really give a crap for their problems only that she had no choice to be a warden.

I'm with the OP.  I love having dwarven sidekicks, but I can't see my PC as one. I finished both dwarven origins, but could not get past Lothering with either character. Dwarves are too short and weird looking. It's hard to take your PC seriously when he's breathing into Sten's navel. Also, any romances involving dwarves feel forced and a bit creepy in a fetishist way.

Having said that, it was easier for me to play as a castless. When you play as a noble, you're supposed to be this great warrior, Lord Aeducan, etc. Then you wander into a human town, and everyone's like two heads taller then you. Ugh!

I also can't play as a male elf. Now matter how hard you try, they look like wimpy human teenagers.

Dwarf warrior looks good, being armoured to the teeth makes it look like a highly concentrated form of badass.

Also about the evil thing, I found being evil would be far more natural to an elf. Elves are the ones who're practically enslaved, why should they go out of their way for anyone else?

I have the same problem, OP. I didn't even get my DNF out of Ostagar. Just couldn't take her seriously. I should have forced myself to play a dwarf on my first playthrough, where you're more focused on the story and getting through the game. Ah well, that ship has sailed.

This has bugged me as well. Your elf, whether Dalish or from an Alienage, has dialogue choices to support a route where you develop your character's hatred towards humans. This completely evaporates after the events at Ostagar. You would think with all the humans you meet and see, you'd get to hammer out some elven justice.
