I'm currently playing my 4th Mass Effect 2 walkthrough as a Vangaurd and I selected Armor Piercing Ammo as bonus power.

I wonder if it is a logical "points" investment since Incediary Ammo can play the role of anti-armor ammunition excellently.
I know many players consider AP ammo the best bonus power but it seems to offer only a slight  benefit.

I want to maximize the class Passive power, I selected Champion, Shockwave and Pull so I cannot maximize an  ammo power too. (I could maximize Incendiary Ammo if I don't  evolve the bonus power beyond level 1)

Since I'll be able to advance one of them to the 3rd level I'm wondering if I should prefer Incediary Ammo.

At level 3 Incediary Ammo grants a +40.00% of weapon damage over 3.00 seconds (versus a +50.00% weapon damage provided by Armor Piercing Ammo). In addition it creates panic through enemies.

Maybe I should allocate the remaining points to an other bonus power.

What do you suggest?

Follow the link, but keep in mind the level of difficulty will drastically change what will be said about your build.

Edited and reposted, this holds true for other shotguns as well as the Evi. (in the sense that AP ammo does not increase your kill speed against multiple enemies)

Insanity, Heretic station, level 30. +9% weapon damage from Champion, 5% from armor, 15% from Miranda, +50% from shotgun upgrades. Using Eviscerator. Targets 1 Geth Hunter, 2 Geth Troopers.

(I know these are not ideal for the Evi and AP as they have more effect against armor, however the reason I use geth is that 10% over inferno against armor is pretty much nothing. So it's the 70% against health has to be what makes AP ammo desirable)

No ammo active. Geth hunter takes 2 shots+4 melee or 3 shots +2 melee.

AP ammo Active. Geth hunter takes 2 shots +3 melee, or 3 shots +2 melee

No ammo active. Geth Trooper takes 1 body shot + melee, or 1 headshot

AP ammo active Geth Trooper takes 1 body shot + melee, or 1 headshot.

Now seeing as you can melee twice before you refire with the Eviscerator, the differences is pretty minimal when it comes to time spent on killing one enemy and moving on to the next. A major drawback of taking AP ammo over inferno is that Inferno will cause organic enemies to panic, when they panic they are not shooting at you, which makes it a hell of a lot safer to charge into groups of 3 and such.

Inferno is better overall due to its panic effect on organics.
