That's not the feeling I got from Oghren.

Personality wise

Note: I haven't spared Loghain yet,

Alistair---For the triggered convos plus after you harden him he's no longer a grand wussy.
Shale--For the convos

Lelianna--Once you get her to admit that she's a hypocrite.

Morrigan--Despite being damaged goods she tells it like it is except for when it's about her

Dog--A lot smarter than he/she looks

Wynne--Just your average older person of the group I don't use her much though.

Sten--Refreshing change from the same ol same ol character

Oghren--For the funny convos for a minute or two

Zevran--Reminds me of Carlos from Resident Evil 3 playstation version "The ladies love my accent".

Fighting wise Oghren is dead last at least you can use haste on Sten and make him somewhat useful.

What about you guys and gals is Oghren you favorite DA character?

Here we go again. "Old favorite" is a marketing tool. And they didn't say "Your favorite character ever is coming back!". They said "an old favorite". Which is about right, many people like Oghren. He might not be THE favorite character. But he is certainly A favorite.

Am i the only one who likes Oghren for what he is?

A drunk, sexist dwarf?

I don't think its stereotypical as some say, i have yet to find any other dwarves in the DA world that behave like that....

Why all the dwarf hate?

The dwarven culture is one of the coolest parts of the setting. I'm very pleased to be exploring it more in the expansion, and Oghren is obviously a good fit for that.

Other than the romanceable characters (and think of the rage if they had chosen just one of those to return) I think the NPCs have roughly the same number of fans and anti-fans.

No, he is not my favorite. Morrigan and Sten are by far, they had a nice range of depth as well as a good personality arc.

But I am very intrigued by what they will do with Oghren. He just did not seem to have quite the same arc or depth as the other characters. I am hoping he is fleshed out more. And cannot wait for the Oghren/Sigrun interplay.

They are all of my favorites. I actually went to Orzammar and picked up Oghren the first time on my second complete playthrough, simply because I didn't want to leave him out. His dialogue is very interesting, and he really does have a solid personality. Especially if you befriend him up to 100. It's real easy, too. Just give him tons and tons of alcohol... Oh, and find him a wench or two!

I just wanted to add some comments on your character choices :

BlazingSpeed wrote...

It's true you can harden him. But what he believes is strange for me. He seeks only revenge, and if you don't give him that, he'll be all big tears, even if you harden him. He's beyond reason at that occasion, that's why I didn't like him entirely.

Shale--For the convos

Shale was brilliantly written. Something very new, with different views. A bit repetitive if I might say so. But unique. The reason they couldn't be including her is basically that Shale is a DLC.

Lelianna--Once you get her to admit that she's a hypocrite.

While I like her character very much, there is one thing not clear for me : the maker comes to her and tells her to help the PC with the blight. Maybe she just got a strange dream and so she decided, but seriously, the maker talking to her is a bit exagerated, from a religious point of view. He left humankind after all. As for why I don't like her. Well, let's say that there was one example in history similar to this one. It ended up with a fire and a body... Same goes for Andraste, no?

Morrigan--Despite being damaged goods she tells it like it is except for when it's about her

I think it would be unfair for me to say why she cannot be included as an old favorite. Basically because I hate her. Very much hate her. She's false, a lier, cannot be trusted and thinks herself superior. Enough for me.

Dog--A lot smarter than he/she looks

No good reason for him not to be, I agree. Epic dialogues, although a bit short and not many of those. Still, it's quite a character on his own.

Wynne--Just your average older person of the group I don't use her much though.

This one possibly being my second choice as a returning favorite. I liked her, as she is your mentor, and tries to be your mother. She wishes you well like a mother in fact. Only problem I can see with her is that she gets all too mystical too fast. Apart from that, she's a VERY useful character.

Sten--Refreshing change from the same ol same ol character

Brilliant writings, brilliant character, so I agree with you. I would have liked the idea of having him return, since he could have many dialogues... although every one of those would be 1 or 2 worded. Problem was, that even if he was the favoritest character of the entire game, it would not make sense bringing him back, or at least, if you did his quest.

Oghren--For the funny convos for a minute or two

He's my favorite. And I am happy he's returning (and that's why I am writing all this). What I like of him is the way he makes jokes, the banters with the companions and in fact, his determination to end the job. Why I don't like him : probably gets repetitive soon, and too much vomits, but that's about it. He's a very deep character, possibly the deepest of all, along with Sten. Joins the warden because he wishes to end his old life, which is a good enough reason. He's good hearted and is smart (although too drunk to show that). Problem was that he was the most unknown of all characters. In fact, we knew almost nothing of his background in the end.

Zevran--Reminds me of Carlos from Resident Evil 3 playstation version "The ladies love my accent".

I have nothing against Zev. Possibly the most lovable elf in history. In fact, he's so different from the common elves, that it's a brilliant change. His jokes are perfect, and his life is filled with adventure. What I don't like however is that he's stubborn. Very stubborn. He will rarely admit his mistakes, and if YOU admit them for him, he will watch you strangely. But still, a very good enough choice, should we not know it's Oghren returning.

Hope this post helped somehow.

Oghren and Morrigan are the only characters you can't kill. Therefore, the only characters that can be party members in awakening. Morrigan left, leaving Oghren as the only one left.

Well, first off Oghren is my favorite character. So he is an old favorite to me.

Second off, Oghren is superior to Sten, no question. Only problem is you tend to get him very late in the game, meaning Sten's all set up the way you want, and pimped out... and Oghren's niether. However, if you visit Orzimar first or second, Oghren WILL be better then Sten as he has two specilization points and impressive Dwarf bonus.

Oghren racks up kills like no other in my games, I just freakin HATE the two handed animations (save pommel strike which never gets old)

They said Oghren was an old favorite. They never said who's old favorite. Could be just Wishpig and one guy in New Jersey and the statement wouldn't be a lie. Posted Image

On my personal list, Oghren is very very low. He's fine, just that nearly every other character was more enjoyable than he was. Oghren's only 'great' moment for me was actually in the dialogue of someone else. The Story of Oghren wrestling the roast. One of the funniest stories in the entire game. ("It was a very good roast!")

Otherwise he was just a sad drunk in my camp. Like Sten he didn't get used much in any of my games.

My own list of favorites? Dog, Lelianna, Alistar and Wynne (in that order) I can't imagine playing Awakening without my dog. I'm hugely disappointed Lelianna won't be there.  Morrigan makes perfect sense not being there.

So not terribly interested in Awakening. Oghren is a non selling point to me.

Ohgren would not be my first pick in bringing an old companion along, but I really have nothing against him.

question - if you polled every dragon age player and simply asked them to rank each party member from first to last - then tally the totals for each character - does anyone believe oghren would crack the top 5 let alone the top 3

If Oghren appeared at Lothering after Battle of Ostagar he would be a favorite because of early airtime.

You do know that they called Wishpig and asked who was his favorite, and thus Oghren is in Awakening, despite it being produced before Oghren was revealed as a character.

So it's all his fault.

They didn't call me, I went to the studio and beat Gaider till he wrote Oghren in.

I love Oghren, got him early on this recent playthrough and he's funny to have around. Even his Fade sequence was funny.

Teared up a little in my US ending though at his mention.
