I'm trying to play the game and I get that then the following on the same message:

RaiseException() Address = 0x7c812afb (filename not found)
CxxThrowException() Address = 0x78158e89 (filename not found)
GMatrix2D:: Swap () Address = 0x10d98373 (filename not found)
Address = 0xe8781b4c (filename not found)

I just got the game today, a friend bought it for me brand new, so I don't know what's wrong.

Most of the time you get that particular error message, you have either a very badly damaged Operating System, or a very old and weak video card. Refer to Chris' description, other than the system requirements part (although they are VERY similar in that regard) in the ME2 forum for how to report a problem, now sitting at the top, pinned in third position.

See also this reference in the DA: O Tech forum:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/58/index/509580

It will tell you how to inventory the components you have.

Since I suspect that you may be in immediate need of the Video Card Basics as well, you probably need to refer to this other article in that forum as well:

The Geforce 6200 is now close to six years old, and was not good enough to play games with when it was brand new. It was then strictly for business charts, graphs, presentations, and spreadsheets, and not particularly well suited to even that complicated of a chore. It was sold, brand new, for $39.95 to $45.95, and frequently discounted to $29.95 (the nForce 6150 onboard chip is a close cousin, equally slow and weak).

TTBOMK, no game company has ever offered support to that terrible thing for any 3D game. If you could somehow convince this game's launcher software to try to "run" the game, it wouldn't even "walk", it would barely CRAWL, at 1-3 frames a second (slide show).

Along these same lines, in the sequel, the game's design relies on interaction between the controlling input and the graphics card feedback to the game, and any very low quality video device slower than roughly 11-13 FPS doesn't give the needed feedback, so the game freezes (at least, as far as input -- it ignores the keyboard entirely, and the mouse mostly).

Very basic discussion of video cards, video chips, and even laptops

If the PC itself is "less elderly" than the video card, there has been a lot of price- lowering the past year or two, such that perfectly decent Mainline Medium cards from just a couple of years ago are readily available (online, stateside, in USD) for $50 or so now. The old formula for Mainline was to look at the name, as in HD 4n00 generation Radeons, for the "600" in HD 4670, and you know it's a gaming video card.

I have a similar problem.. heh got the game for christmas Don't have money to blow for a new PC and my ati 9800 AGP card won't cut it.

Are there any agp cards that will run the game that won't break my wallet?

Several of ATI's partner companies still make them, of which the very best has been the HD 3850, but between the card itself, and the usual need to upgrade the power supply as well, it isn't a "cheap" upgrade. The next best has been the HD 4670, which seems to be hard to find right now, leaving the Hd 4650 as the bargain part that is both relatively reasonably priced and also relatively powerful for that cost.

It's not always a good investment, even at that moderate cost. Typically, an AGP video card is matched up to a slow, old, Intel Pentium P4, and I believe in putting those out to pasture (donate it to a charity Thrift Shop). AMD kept on matching good CPUs to AGP somewhat longer, so if you happen to have a PC with an S939 CPU socket (matching to an X2 processor), that isn't as bad of a deal.

I have an MSI K8N Neo 2 Deluxe mainboard with an AMD X2 4600 CPU (the fastest X2 for s939 was the 4800), and an HD 3850, in AGP, that runs nicely, although not like my X2 6000 (AM2) does (HD 4850, PCIe). .

I'm getting the same error message, and have a GeForce 8800GT... the error message happened after I updated my nVidia driver to 260.XX. I updated the driver, as the game crashed & advised me to update the driver!

Thoughts?

Roll back the driver and see if the game works.

The latest Nvidia drivers have been causing problems with older cards and causing games to crash.

for some reason, the program worked awhile with new driver, then screen first went yellow, then black. I'll try uninstalling driver, but will likely get different error message as before.

I do thank you for responding; hopefully, this possessed computer will work...

You are SUPPOSED to get that warning with that antique old Radeon. It's not able to display the correct pixel shaders.

The 9000, 9200, and 9250 are actually more closely related to the 8500, a ten year old antique of a card.  The 9500 and upward are a year newer, dating from July, 2002.

You have surely gotten your money's worth out of it by now.

I figured, but thought I would check to make sure. It's sad that everything else on my computer seems to meet the requirements. Oh well, I'm getting a new laptop soon so I can finally put this desktop to rest.

I have had that global shader error message pop up for me a few times, although I'm having trouble finding out why. I only got my laptop bout last year, and the video card is a Nvidia GeForce GT 335M.
I must apologise if this makes me sound like a newbie, but is my card not enough to handle the game, or is there a way I can tweak the settings or something so it will play? I had my hard drive replaced a few months back, so no problem there, least not that I know of. Otherwise, I'm going to have to get it on Xbox360, which will be a problem, seeing as I'll have to get the console too in that case, and I don't feel like splashing money when I don't have to.

All of nVIDIA's switch-in / switch out laptop graphics cards have frequent driver problems and won't switch. The onboard Intel video chip shows up instead, and isn't good enough. You have to force it to always use only the real card, and never to switch, at least until you are done with gaming on that machine. Don't ask how any particular laptop brand or model is reset to force that setting. They all seem to be different, so you'll need a real manual for your laptop to consult, or help from the manufacturer, failing the existence of a suitable manual.
