Secondly I do apologize for the previous topic name, I can see how that would be a spoiler. Apologies all around for those of you whom I ruined the game for.
Party Setup
I prefer to have the following ideal setup:
- Tank
- Melee DD (with a ranged secondary weapon)
- Ranged DD (perferibly a mage...will make things go a lot smoother)
- Healer
The Fight
The Brood Mother fight consists of three phases, first being her tenticles phase, second summon darkspawn, and third is hack and slash. I'll outline how I successfully completed the fight without a death on Normal, I'm sure the strategy, party setup and other things will change when doing hard or nightmare.
Phase 1
To start the fight I like to take my mage and Cone of Cold the first two tenticles, right infront of her, also getting her. You can simply change this to doing Tempest if you have gone that far in the skill tree and it will work even better. This will damage her along with the tenticles. In my case though, I looked for mana conservation because I was out of lyrium potions so I simply did Cone of Cold on her and the tenticles. You don't have to "kill" the tenticles, you just have to do like 1/3 of their HP in damage before they will disappear under ground.
From here you want to simply take out all the tenticles. I like to use my Tank and simply taunt them all and keep them close to him, then ranged DD's take him out along with the melee making strong use of AoE abilities like Cone of Cold and Tempest. If you have a healer, use your Glyph of Paralysis to stun the extra incoming damage from the tenticles you may miss with Cone of Cold.
Phase 2
As soon as the tenticles have all been killed she will summon some darkspawn minions. This is a simple hack and slash battle of speed. This phase is on a timer and its vital you down them as quick as possible. The last thing you want is all the darkspawn stacked ontop of having 4 tenticles. In some cases I simply leave the ranged darkspawn up if it has taken me too long to kill the melee ones (it shouldn't). Once they are dead, the next phase starts.
Phase 3
In this phase the fight is simple. You can take and switch your melee DD to ranged and use your three ranged DD's to attack her. You can use your tank to taunt it, or attack it for a second, but its a good idea to do hold position slightly out of her range so that she wont smack you with her flippers or pick you up and fling you around. Your main goal is to keep the aggro on your tank because she will launch these little poision attacks at you and it can be a pain to have to keep either Healing, Group Healing, or potting.
After Phase 3, it will switch back to Phase 1 and it will repeat this 3 times. Just keep your same approach and it will be a cake walk.
Hope this helped you out a bit and good luck to you!
