The interview over on this thread confirmed that they have been working on this expansion for almost a year at this point.

Many, including myself, were worried that the devs were being rushed as EA whipped their backs to release an expansion asap... most expansions come out around a year after release and with DA:A coming out far earlier then a year after DA:O's release, no wonder we were worried.

However, as many thought, thanks to the whole console, PC, delay issue... they must have been developing DA:A far before the release of DA:O which means that awakening was no more rushed then the average expansion.

Don't know about you, but for some reason, this comes as a big relief to me.

I kind of got spoiled on Origins - since it was announced so early. So it's been really difficult these many months not being able to talk about what I've been working on. It was glorious when it was announced.

Darkmax1974, nothing in Awakening was intended for Origins. It's all brand new.
