Revenant Machine Gun + Sniper Rifles + AP Ammo More Fun Than Vanguard

I personally find soldier more fun than vanguard. I can deal with enemies at any range, and I can switch between any weapon to vary my playstyle. Concussive blast is fun too. I can even add a biotic as my special if I really want to. Vanguard is just the same thing over and over, charge then shotgun blasts then run to cover. Or use ****ty weapons to weaken them from range before charging. Does anybody agree? Vanguard are over rated in fun factor.

Ok so I passed the game as a soldier and I decided I would try vanguard since everybody claims it is alot of fun. So I started a vanguard on insanity, and after about 4 hours of play I realized that it was nowhere as fun as mowing people down with the revenant machine gun and sniper rifles with AP ammo. I also dont really like charge as it can easily get you killed on insanity, especially with how easy it is to get stuck on objects in this game, or go into cover in the wrong spot.

Or maybe you just aren't as good as a vanguard. There is a reason why there are multiple classes, to appeal to different playstyles. Its awesome that you prefer a soldier over a vanguard but to bash the class becuase you you don't enjoy as much isn't the way to go. Just look at the official vanguard thread and all the great vanguard players.

That said, I have been planning on a revenant soldier for a while now and will try it out.

What usually happens in mine:
(Against 3 clustered enemies, with Miranda and Garrus)
Miranda: Overload
Shep: Charge Overloaded enemy - enemy flies away
Turn to enemy 2, shotgun to the face, melee attack | at the same time, Garrus Conc shot to enemy 3.
By the time enemy 3 recovers from short stagger... shotgun to the face, melee attack.
Cover or sprint to enemy 1, shotgun to the face.
Against numerous enemies in large area, some clustered, some not (Collectors)
Shep:
Charge stray collector, shotgun to the face, duck.
Rinse, repeat.
Use allies as distractions.
Dispatch clusters as mentioned above.
Against 2 clustered enemies:
Shep:
Charge enemy 1. Don't Overload. Shotgun to face. | optional: at the same time, Warp/Conc shot to enemy 2 for stagger
Enemy 2... shotgun to the face.

edit: also, there are many different ways to play each class, its just that vanguard has imo, the least flexibility in this.

The OP isn't claiming that the vanguard is hands down worse than soldier for everyone, he is simply saying it's less fun for him and asking if anyone else feels the same way. There's no need for all the insults.Sabresandiego wrote...

I personally disagree, but I haven't tried the reverant as I took the widow on my soldier.

I did, however, really enjoy the Vanguard. Charging from target to target was an entirely different tactic than the majority of other classes posses. I also like the thrill that the vanguard play-style gives you. But, I guess it's not for everyone.

I think the only time vanguard isn't fun is on the Collector ship with the platforms, where charge is all kinds of horribly broken.

You can work around it. Essentially it's an issue with the charge path needing to line up with openings. If you line your charges up you will rarely have any issues, even on the collector ship and the suicide run.

Yeah, I eventually figured that out. It was still wildly unreliable and I saw the loading screen more in that hour than I had through the entire game up to that point.sinosleep wrote...

Played both, the Vanguard offers more of a challenge... soldier is just way to easy to play, and is the best class imo for beginners. Everyone has their favorite class, mine is Adept/Engineer. Most disliked class is the Infiltrator, close second the Sentinel.
Surprising that you would say sentinel is one of your least favorites if adept/engineer are your favorite classes.

As others have said, 'fun' is a subjective factor and your argument doesn't really make in any sense in that context. If you prefer moar shooting then clearly the soldier is for you. Using your type of argument, I could say with just as much justification that I prefer zooming across the map constantly to be preferable to acting like a mere mortal and shooting things.
But if you want to play sheer awesomeness, a *Vanguard* with a Revenant is more fun than everything else
(and yes, before you say it, I'm aware the stock game doesn't allow this combo. Modding, however, does)

Or you know the "can't charge" "can't get a lock" bug that randomly happens all the time.

I don't know if I prefer the Soldier though, I really don't have a favorite class yet.

Besides, as others have said, fun is purely subjective.
