Ok so I passed the game as a soldier and I decided I would try vanguard since everybody claims it is alot of fun. So I started a vanguard on insanity, and after about 4 hours of play I realized that it was nowhere as fun as mowing people down with the revenant machine gun and sniper rifles with AP ammo. I also dont really like charge as it can easily get you killed on insanity, especially with how easy it is to get stuck on objects in this game, or go into cover in the wrong spot.

I personally find soldier more fun than vanguard. I can deal with enemies at any range, and I can switch between any weapon to vary my playstyle. Concussive blast is fun too. I can even add a biotic as my special if I really want to. Vanguard is just the same thing over and over, charge then shotgun blasts then run to cover. Or use ****ty weapons to weaken them from range before charging. Does anybody agree? Vanguard are over rated in fun factor.

Or maybe you just aren't as good as a vanguard. There is a reason why there are multiple classes, to appeal to different playstyles. Its awesome that you prefer a soldier over a vanguard but to bash the class becuase you you don't enjoy as much isn't the way to go. Just look at the official vanguard thread and all the great vanguard players.

Vanguard owns and I have replayed much of ME2 several times because of this.  You can charge all the time on insanity if your computer is not messing with you.  Heavy Charge refreshes shields 100% so you get back your shields with each charge.  You really need a sufficient computer to back you up in order for charge to target correctly and when you have this you can enjoy the full rush of CQC ownage.

That said, I have been planning on a revenant soldier for a while now and will try it out.

This means you are doing it wrong.

What usually happens in mine:
(Against 3 clustered enemies, with Miranda and Garrus)

Miranda: Overload
Shep: Charge Overloaded enemy - enemy flies away
Turn to enemy 2, shotgun to the face, melee attack | at the same time, Garrus Conc shot to enemy 3.
By the time enemy 3 recovers from short stagger... shotgun to the face, melee attack.
Cover or sprint to enemy 1, shotgun to the face.

Against numerous enemies in large area, some clustered, some not (Collectors)

Shep:
Charge stray collector, shotgun to the face, duck.
Rinse, repeat.
Use allies as distractions.
Dispatch clusters as mentioned above.

Against 2 clustered enemies:

Shep:
Charge enemy 1. Don't Overload. Shotgun to face. | optional: at the same time, Warp/Conc shot to enemy 2 for stagger
Enemy 2... shotgun to the face.

you don't like vanguards...ok? personally i love 'em. can't stand the boring repetitveness and ease of a soldier myself but there you go. to each his own, people love playing adepts, others love playing engineers, theres even some crazy people who love playing sentinel, different people find different things fun.
edit: also, there are many different ways to play each class, its just that vanguard has imo, the least flexibility in this.

I think the title of this thread tells us everything we need to know. It is basically claiming that the OP's subjective opinion is more valid than anyone else's opinion.

I hate playing vanguard on insanity haha

On the lower difficulties it's like whoosh bam pow poff and all the enemies are dead and you killed them all like Thane or something

The OP isn't claiming that the vanguard is hands down worse than soldier for everyone, he is simply saying it's less fun for him and asking if anyone else feels the same way. There's no need for all the insults.

I personally disagree, but I haven't tried the reverant as I took the widow on my soldier.

I think the only time vanguard isn't fun is on the Collector ship with the platforms, where charge is all kinds of horribly broken.

edit: and this problem is completely independent of difficulty setting

I like the reverant, but it does not, in my opinion, make the game exponentially more fun. The best thing about it is it's firing sound. There are certain situations were it is really nice to have, like mowing down husks. Overall, the soldier has not been my favorite class to play.

I did, however, really enjoy the Vanguard. Charging from target to target was an entirely different tactic than the majority of other classes posses. I also like the thrill that the vanguard play-style gives you. But, I guess it's not for everyone.

You can work around it. Essentially it's an issue with the charge path needing to line up with openings. If you line your charges up you will rarely have any issues, even on the collector ship and the suicide run.

Yeah, I eventually figured that out. It was still wildly unreliable and I saw the loading screen more in that hour than I had through the entire game up to that point.

I have tried al the classes and I personally prefer the Vanguard. part of my reason might be because I feel that if this was a movie or some type of animation it would me most action packed if Shep was vanguard or adept. Probably infiltrator too. Plus I like shotguns and the power to just beatdown people. nobody can do it better than a Vanguard.

Played both, the Vanguard offers more of a challenge... soldier is just way to easy to play, and is the best class imo for beginners. Everyone has their favorite class, mine is Adept/Engineer. Most disliked class is the Infiltrator, close second the Sentinel.

Surprising that you would say sentinel is one of your least favorites if adept/engineer are your favorite classes.

As others have said, 'fun' is a subjective factor and your argument doesn't really make in any sense in that context. If you prefer moar shooting then clearly the soldier is for you. Using your type of argument, I could say with just as much justification that I prefer zooming across the map constantly to be preferable to acting like a mere mortal and shooting things.

But if you want to play sheer awesomeness, a *Vanguard* with a Revenant is more fun than everything else :P

(and yes, before you say it, I'm aware the stock game doesn't allow this combo. Modding, however, does)

Or you know the "can't charge" "can't get a lock" bug that randomly happens all the time.

I personally would not have played through this game 4 times in a row if it was not for the Vanguard class. Two of those play throughs were Vanguard (Hardcore, Insanity) To each there own.

My first playthrough mas with a Soldier on normal, after I picked an Vanguard on Insanity. Of course I had much problens I didn't really knew how to play with it. Well, after some other playthough I got it again and then knew how to play with it. And it was very fun... some battle can end even before they begin.

.

I don't know if I prefer the Soldier though, I really don't have a favorite class yet.

Vanguard is more fun because it's more challenging.

I like the "CHARGE" style. I was thinking of doing infiltrator next, but frankly playing as the soldier I ended up using the machine gun and ramming speed most of the time rather than the sniper rifle on Hardcore. I think Vanguard may suit me just fine...

Vanguard isn't fun because you mow down enemies. It's fun because it is visceral and risky. It's not fun because it's powerful, it's fun because when you're doing it right it makes you FEEL powerful without making things too easy.

Besides, as others have said, fun is purely subjective.
