I just installed Mass Effect 1 and get these black spots on the screen that flash for a second then go away. The problem is that every second new ones come then promptly dissappear. The end result is it looks like black static. Each individual black thing looks like burning film (if you've ever seen that).

Here are my specs:
Mass Effect 1 v. 1.02
Windows 7 64 bit fully patched
4 gb ram
AMD phenom II x3 720 process 2.8ghz
AMD Radeon HD 4870
Latest catalyst drivers (10.2)
Windows classic theme

Mass Effect setting I've tried (problem occured under all combinations I've tried)
Windowed: Yes and no
Particle effects: low and high
Texture detail: low and ultra high
Filtering mode: linear and point and anisotropic
Dynamic shadows: yes and no
Film grain: yes and no

I've tried rebooting the machine (of course).

Only time it has worked is when I create a new game. Whenever I save and come back to the game by loading, the problem crops up.

EDIT: I should also mention that the menus look fine and never show any black spots.

AA off, same problem on lowest settings. There is no way a HD 4870 is overheating on mass effect 1 lowest settings but runs dragon age fine on max settings.
