According to Bioware, this expansion will be larger than most retail games. A lot of people have quoted sources saying 15 hours of game play, but no official game play estimate has been has been confirmed (at least not the last time I checked).

So if the game truly is larger than most retail games, $40 is a very good deal. If it comes in as a short addition to the Dragon Age experience, then I expect we can then ask (with probably a hint of irritation) 'why so expensive?'

Good games?  In Europe?  Where is the "/sarcasm"?

My understanding is the original website that reported the 15 hours that everybody seems fixated on has now removed that claim from the website. The 15 hours thing is, as of now, total rumor. No substantiation for it whatsoever.

That is, in fact, 100 per cent true.

Until Bioware, or a credible reviewer/ previewer, can give us an official gameplay estimate than we are stuck with "longer than most retail games." While we can only speculate what that means, I am excited because I'm the kind of player who participates in every side side quest, doesn't skip diologue etc.

True.  But not right away.  I can wait for the price to go down.  Let em work out the bugs etc...  It does seem a little pricey for just 15 hours (or so I hear).  That doesnt even sound very expansive.  Hmmmmm.

The Dragon Age property is a license to print money. They could scrape roadkill of the side of the road, label it Dragon Age, and sell it. We should be happy, they could have probably spun this off as a whole other game and charged us sixty.

Thats what I heard.  Pulling something off a website isn't the same as disproving it.   Not on the net anyway...hehe...things just don't go away.  Until BIOWARE clears all this up thats the number the gaming public/fan base now has to work with, like it or not.

Period.

Just because Bioware hasn't released a hard number, doesn't mean we must accept what was written (and since removed) from a random website as fact. The current number the public has to work with is ... unknown, like it or not.

Threads like this are humorous. You people act as if a game developer is STEALING from you. Just think about the economics here. It is all supply and demand. Besides, most people here wouldn't think twice about dropping $40 out to dinner with the wife/husband/etc. What about dropping $40 at the bar with your buddies for a few hours of fun? How much does a major sporting event cost you for three hours? How about a trip to the movies with popcorn?

At the end of the day, even if the damn thing only took you 10 hours to complete it, you know you will play through it again. Plus, it's 10 hours of entertainment. That's it. Just entertainment. You can chose to spend those entertainment dollars on something else if needed, but the entertainment value return on investment is pretty high with any Bioware game/DLC/expansion that I have played...

Oh hush up. Nobody is acting like they are being robbed. Hell, someone even said they are waiting for a price drop.

However (and I am sick of this), those 'examples' you gave don't hold water to anything. So, by your logic, they can pump the price to whatever they desire, because we'd spend the money on something more frivilous? They should give us less and less time? That makes no sense, whatsoever. That $40 movie night, for example, would only happen once in a blue moon, so it may as well be worth it, especially since your getting much for your value. For one thing, for the same price, I can get even more hours of entertainment from a DS game.

So please, stop acing suprised that people are dissapointed that an expansion pack is expensive, because it may not be worth the cash.

Don't they?  Please enlighten me as your response didn't add much to the discussion.  I find my examples completely valid.  We are discussing the cost of entertainment in terms of hours spent.  It's basic economics, mixed in with your subjective tastes.  All perfectly relevant examples.  For instance, you state that a $40 movie night would happen "one in a blue moon".  Interesting, how would you know?  Would that pertain to everyone?  What if my wife and I went out every weekend?  That isn't the point...you misseed it.  People in this thread are only discussing the hours of gameplay vs. the cost.  There is no relative discussion to base their opinions on.  I gave some examples for comparison.

For instance, I read repeatedly that people felt the 30 minutes of play that Return to Ostar gave you wasn't worth the $5.  I argue that some of those same people would have no problem paying $5 for a beer at a bar which they could down in, say, 10 minutes?  Which is worth more to you?  Why would the beer be a better value for $5 and 10 minutes of enjoyment but 30 mins playing a game you enjoy is too expensive?  It makes no sense.

So...you hush up or add some enlightening discussion.   ;)

the one thing they simply messed up is not integrating new skills, dlc and origin also in the original game - this would extremely increase replay value and therefore "increase" the size of the expension

And, besides, it's all supply and demand in terms of cost. Developer needs to recoup their costs of development (paying all the talent, the cleaning people at their offices, the utility bills, marketing, etc.). They have to come up with a price point that will sell them enough units to recoup this cost and gain some profit to continue to develop products. The price point is set by supply/demand in the market place. Which puts the power in your hands. You have the OPTION to buy it or not.

Hello there.

Might I suggest NEVER buying a videogame at GAME. Instead get them at one of the big supermarket chains, ASDA or Tesco. Not only are their prices generally £5 cheaper than GAME but they often have special offers on launch day and also offers 4 weeks after launch. I bought Bayonetta two weeks ago in ASDA for £25, GAME were still selling it for about £42.99 or some madness like that. Darksiders got dropped down to £25 in ASDA a few days ago...thinking of getting that tomorrow.

Speaking of the price, can anyone tell me about it's availability? I know it will be under Steam, but because I do not use Steam often, I would like to know if it will be released on the in game menu when you open Dragon Age. If so, how many Bioware points is this gonna cost?

EA's first Sims 3 expansion was $40.00 US as well.  I would guess that has a lot to do w/ the price of Awakening as well. <_<

I heard one person say it's only 5 hours long and I instantly said "NO WAY", there is a reason why this expansion is a bit more expensive (It will be the most expensive expansion I have bought anyway).

I'm looking to find out more about the expansion, on paper there is a lot of stuff being added like specializations etc which could be cool. Not to mention it's a chance to bring my original character out of retirement (so to speak) and adventure on to level 30. I will post probably end up getting this though.

You can finish it in 15 hours if you skip half the dialogue...not exactly my idea of enjoying the game :)

It took me 25-30 hours and I play really casual, explore everything, try different things and so on.

Checks bill...paid £14.92 at amazon.co.uk excl VAT excl shipping. Let's go nuts and make that £20.-, that's about 22.20 euros.

Easily an hour of fun for less than a euro.

<-- happy customer, even with the bugs.

Here in the UK GAME.co.uk has put up DA Awakening, with a price tag of £30. I just think a £30 price tag is extremely expensive for expansion pack. The actual game was only £10 more and has so much more content.

So i dare ask, is this just another EA scheme to make more money?

It's GAME ripping you off.  Amazon are selling it for £15, and it was £20 through Steam.  Even Origins is only £25 from Amazon.

Obviously it's just a cashcow for Bioware to pay for their US only contests.
