You recruit Morinth less than a minute after she tried to kill you. So killing Samara on the basis that she might try to kill you later doesn't make much sense, considering you are replacing her with someone that has already tried to kill you.

To be fair, death by snu snu beats death by crushed skull.

I think at one point samara snapped an eclipe sister's neck with her high heels.

I'm pretty sure its death by brain hemorrhage. Besides, Samara can't kill Shepard.

Brain haemorrhage caused by nervous system overload due to joining.
Hence, death by snu snu.

I'm also not being entirely serious here...

I'm only asking if the way Bioware wrote those scenes of picking Morinth made sense to you or not. Can we please get on topic.

You mean from a development stand-point, and not an in-game story-wise standpoint? That just depends on who you ask. You're going to find the majority of people feel like it's a stupid decision and that it's pointless to pick Morinth over Samara, and they're going to have reasons. You're then going to find that there's a minority of people in favor of Morinth, and they're going to have their reasons. That's about it.

She didn't try to kill you, so much as she tried to kill the person you were portraying yourself as. After you prove that you're probably the only person to ever deny her--an action that requires an extremely powerful person--it's clear that she regards you in a much different manner, one that compells her to follow your commands and help you.

The fact that she still tries to kill you later on the Normandy undermines your statement. The only reason she follows you is because she is obsessed with your power and feels a need to meld with you to strengthen herself.

I mean development AND story. Thank you for acknowledging the original question, btw. Anyway, My issue is that I don't know how I feel about Bioware writing in that Morinth doesn't reveal herself to the squad and instead disguises herself as Samara, and thats the ONLY opinion I'm asking for from everyone. I've already posted in another topic of Morinth or Samara and I didn't want my topic to turn into a debate, but apparently others aren't really reading what I actually asked.

Well like I said earlier, I think Morinth assumign the form of Samara to avoid detection was fine. I can't think of a way for the squad to tolerate Morinth's presence. Can you?

But Morinth's biotic powers grow when she kills people through melding. So if youu want her to become an even stronger biotic, you're going to have to let her hunt people. Seems like it would be far more trouble than its worth.

Not when she is so strong as a matriarch in such young years. Some renegade could even argue:Yes,morinth kill people.
But she help to save billions of them.

Thank you, Internet Kraken, for your opinion on my question. I agree that it would make sense for her to disguise herself. I guess it wasn't what I was expecting, since I figured Shepard could convince his/her squad to accept ANYONE into it. (I mean, he was able to recruit a Geth without mutiny, for christsake! lol)

They tolerate jack and the main enemy of the first game without problems...
So a asari sucubus should be also welcome. No double standards please.:D
Its intersting. The only difficult situation were Thane and Jacob.

I suppose that does make a bit of sense from the renegade perspective. But considering how big of a threat Morinth is to the mission, it still makes little sense to bring her along.

Well Legion did save you so it made a bit more sense to bring him along. It's not like we just dragged some random Geth onto the ship and then told the rest of the squad to be cool with it.

She never tried to kill me on the Normandy... dunno what you did wrong, or even what you're talking about. Wanting does not equal trying. She followed my every command, and unless you felt the need to have relations with a character who is proven to kill you if you do, there's no reason to feel any more threatened of her than you do of Samara (who does claim she'll try to kill you if you did certain stuff), or Jack or Grunt or Thane or the ship's unshackled AI, for that matter. Of course, if you're playing a role where you felt that way, then there's nothing wrong with feeling that way at all--that's just your gameplay experience and that's great, and I'm not telling you you're wrong. Just don't imply that I am, especially when I'm not arguing right or wrong, just stating opinion and perspective

Sorry to get off-topic and derail your thread again, OP. It's not my intention to instigate debate, it just happens when you disagree with their way of thinking.

thank you, tonnactus, for your opinion (lol gonna personally thank people for the opinions on my question)

As for what you said afterwards, Internet Kraken, true Legion saves Shepard's squad, but at the same time, Miranda and Jacob vehemently disagree with reactivating Legion after the IFF mission, but they still follow Shepard's order if Shepard says he/she wants to reactivate Legion.

I guess I just have complete faith in Shepard's ability to recruit ANYONE into the team and convince the others that each recruit is good for the mission :P

and Ramikadyc, I appreciate the apology, and at the same time I should have known better and to have expected the topic to go... off-topic, but I figured hopefully I can get some answers.

Hmmmm, good point. Your squad member scertainly do put a lot of faith into Shepard. Maybe he would be able to convince them to tolerate Morinth. Still, I'd think they would lose thier loyalty in Shepard after he killed Samara. Though Shepard and Morinth could probably manipulate your squadmates into thinking that Samara was actually the evil one.

You know, Morinth probably could join your squad without any objections through Shepard persuasive abilties. I guess BioWare just went down the easier route of writing and recording less dialogue. Can't really blame them for doing so.

We tolerate Legion because he calls me ShepardCommander.

It's so cuuuuuuute! I could hug him every time he says that.

Picking Morinth is impulsive and evil for Paragon or self-preservation for Renegade if you'd rather not deal with Samara potentially coming after you in the future.  Meta-gaming, you can do it for her loyalty skill Dominate.

Although I do like Morinth, such a monster needs to be destroyed.  And I am renegade

You bring up some good points yourself. I guess it would depend on how the other squad members felt about Samara up to Shepard having her killed. Members such as Grunt, Zaeed, and Jack wouldn't care too much since they have a very mercenary attitude or just like to kill themselves, while other party members would be cautious.

And as for Bioware simplifying scriptwriting for recording purposes, that makes a lot of sense. Can't blame them, either, for doing that.

Like jack, who destroys 3 heavy mechs in the cutscene...
No.Shepardt only get the option to choose morinth if he could resist her hypnose. So she isnt a threat for the mission. And he doesnt kill radomly people, only one she have a connection with.Bioware wasted a lot of ptoential for a great character, really.I dont believe that she never felt any sympathy or love for her victims when she only choose people that had huge similarities with her.(the idiot who think he could get her only by buying cards for the band/no chance)

I don't think she really fit in the team. It's not that easy to pretend to be someone that you didn't talk to in 400 years.

So you think it was a poor writing choice on Bioware to have Morinth disguise herself rather than just be open about her identity on the Normandy?

I actually think it is essential that she dresses up like Samara and acts like her around the rest of the crew. If the crew knew the truth they might think "Hey, Shep just killed off Sam and replaced her with someone he/she thinks is better suited. What's stopping him/her from doing the same to me, given the chance ?"

Not the best of thoughts to cause just before you head for a suicide mission.

Question is... do you want a lawful justicar paladin in your squad or a cereal killer with mind control abilities...

I might be hyperbolizing slightly but the popular argument seems to be ... Do you want a honor code spouting zealot who is constantly watching everything you do for the slightest deviation from her moral framework at which point she would be honorbound to hunt and kill you? --- or would you prefer the services of a serial murderer with a death fetish who is constantly watching for any ****** in your mental armour that she can exploit in the hopes of seducing and killing you?

BTW I never tire of discussions in which I am told what opinions I am allowed to express and how I am allowed to express them. It's why I love the interweb :-)

Morinth is a gimmick. Someone realised late in development that Samara doesn't make any damn sense to have on a renegade shepard team so they "added" morinth in to help renegade shepards feel more renegade'ish. It's 100% last minute seat of the pants, "hope they don't notice this", design decision and it didn't really work. It just made both characters feel like props instead of parts of the story.

One reason I could justify picking Morinth is... as potential sabotage against Cerberus, or at least a potential F U gesture. Normandy v.2 is after all a Cerberus ship, crewed by Cerberus crew, plus Miranda keeping a close watch on you, Illusive Man certainly want to keep his investment in this ship and revived Shepard secure and he's aided by an onboard AI too.
Throughout entire ME 2 my Renegade Shepard's extremely resentful at this situation (and at being forcibly brought back to life) and she never came to trust any of her crew even until the end.
So yeah, I'd smuggle in an Ardat-Yakshi for some ****s'n'giggles half hoping this move catches TIM off guard.

There isn't really any reason at all for Shepard to sabotage Cerberus, after all they are more or less the only ones that give a **** about the collectors.
Also I don't think TIM underastimate Shepard at all, Miranda and EDI is if anything just a halfhearted try
And I also have a hard time seeing Morinth catching TIM off guard, I mean he doesn't really seem like the kind of guy hanging out at bars catching peoples attention ^^

But hey, I'm far from a ME expert, so I can just as well be dead wrong :bandit:
