Running a gtx 260, 2.9 gb dual core processor and whenever I run the game (after becoming a warden) now my processor heats up to 100 degrees. I like the game but dont want to cook my processor.

This is most like a sympton of another problem. Check your CPU temperature in other graphics heav games, like say Crysis, and see what happens. A specific game may strain a CPU more than another game, but not when the difference is dozens of degrees.

I would highly highly recommend you check your cooling solution before playing much more games. If you are reaching 100C then you are pushing the thermal limit on your cpu for sure. Of course I'd have to know the exact model of cpu to know how far. But still, check the fan for dust and what not and if that doesn't work then you'll need to reseat the heatsink.

I have run fallout, oblivion on max settings widescreen, arma and many other games with no issue. Cleaned out the fan and reseated the processor. Even running this game on the intro page pushes the cpu into dangerous territory...

You sound experienced but I'll ask anyway.....

Would that be 100° farenheit or celsius that you are talking about? 100°c is aproximately 212°f, in which case don't run the game until you figure it out what is causing it. My computer runs at aprox 35° to 40°c depending on the load. My bios has a safety cut off that when the temps reach 170°f (configurable) it shuts down the computer to protect the CPU.
If your CPU is actually running at 100° farenheit then it's not overheating at all.

I once ticked the checkmark in my monitoring program to show farenheit instead of celsius and nearly blew a gasket when I saw my CPU running at 105° because I thought I was on the celsius scale and not the farenheit scale. Once I switched it back to celsius it was okay at only 35 to 40°c

that sounds dangerously hot if it is Celsius.

Is your CPU overclocked, which would make it run hotter?

My CPU typically runs below 40C under load, and that's just with air cooling - nothing fancy like watercooling

I had a similar problem for a short time, my e8500 would heat up to 100 C when running Dragon Age.

For me the problem was that I had cpu voltage set too high in my BIOS, and the automatic setting didn't adjust the voltage downward enough properly. The fix was to simply go manual and start at the bottom voltage available and keep increasing it a tick until the program was stable. I used Real Temp to monitor my temps while doing this and it solved the overheating problem.

I don't recommend fiddling with your BIOS settings unless you've had a fair amount of experience with computers, but this worked for me. As a side note, it also seemed to help with the program doing 100% cpu usage as reported by windows. I found that the cpu would run 100% or lower, depending on the state of my NPC tactics, in the book. When the tactics were set in a way compatible with the logic in the book, cpu usage dropped to much less than 100%.

Hope this helps, or gives you some ideas of where to proceed at least.
