I don't play shooters at all -- I'm a tactical RPG fan. But I've been watching my roommate play ME1 and I'm so charmed by the cinematic aspect that I want to try a playthrough despite how much I suck at shooting things.
So, what class, party setup and playstyle will maximize the tactical aspects of ME1's combat and minimize the shooter aspects?
It seems like Adept is the class to pick. Is it plausible to play with a party of three biotics users, controlling their powers by hand?
Of course, I could simply put the game on its lowest setting and turn it into an easy shooter, but I like challenge in gaming -- just not challenges that require a speedy trigger finger.
Advice?
ME1: how to make it more like an RPG?

If you want a tactical advantage over your enemies as well as reducing your dependence on a weapon, Sentinel's probably what you want. You have both the powers of an adept and an engineer, although you lack all the powers of both. Adept's a fine choice, though.
There are three characters in mass effect(1) that can use biotic powers. The amount of focus on such powers varies, but it's pretty obvious who they are and how well adapted they are to such things. You probably want some tech...it pretty much uses the same mechanics as biotics except for machines.

In ME1 unquestionably the adept. Nobody will be able to touch you.

Yeah, trust me, Mass Effect 1's shooter elements are in no way difficult. Either play as a class with biotics or a class with Immunity (that is to say: anything but Engineer) and you'll have nothing to fear from your enemies. A Soldier running around with Kaidan and Liara is pretty much invincible on any difficulty level—the challenge in Insanity lies with killing enemies before they turn on their eighty percent damage reduction, not in surviving. Just get the Fitness skill maxed out and make sure Kaidan has Lift trained up and Liara has Lift and Singularity and you'll do just fine.
