 so i'm finally playing through as a femshep. i made a perdy little thing thanks to me2faces.com and i've just got to comment on the way hale delivers her lines. i really enjoy the different approach and different voice inflections she puts on things but one thing really annoys me. she kind of sounds like a femail elcor. i mean when she speaks every single sentence is finished with a downbeat. even with her questions, there is hardly ever a raise in pitch of her voice. it's like she is doing really well in voice action until the last word of every sentence. it's really becoming noticable. not game ruining like how manshep says "resources" but it's noticible enough to be annoying.

Maleshep is monotone for most of the game, no feeling no nothing. He has some good lines though, that crack me up, which Femshep just plain sucks at. Overall though, I prefer Femshep.

Everyone else's voice acting in the game is very very good (guest celebrity actors like Sheen for TIM and Carrie ann moss for Aria) but maleshep and femshep could have been way better. I think if Bioware put me on I would do really good voice acting for them hehehe

yah but generally femshep is best for paragon lines and maleshep is best for renegade lines ("Ill cut your balls off and sell 'em to a krogan!")

I don't like her voice, not in this game. She has a violent voice, almost constantly yelling, and when she is acting on a more suave voice, she sounds like a little girl. And she always puts the accent on wrong words in a conversation.

On other hand, Mark Meer sounds like a southern USA farmer.

Yes exactly. I cannot believe how deluded people are when they say that Mark Meer is monotone but Jennifer Hale is not. It's practically like Hale is trying to do an angrier version of male Shepard or something. Here's what I think of when I hear Jennifer Hale's voice on female Shepard:

Ya iknow I have seen the other threads and comments talking about femshep being some great va work and such but not untill least week or so have I actually played a fem shep so I never had a comment of my own.
I'd say Im maybe about 3/4's of the way thru and the whole time I have been wondering where this phenomenal voice acting is.
Neither are bad but I can not say either is all that good.

Ed Zachary. Maleshep is definitely made for Renegade

The issue with Hale is that she makes every line sound sort of dismissive and sarcastic. If you're playing Renegade, this works in your favor. If you're playing Paragon, it makes your character significantly less believable.



Meer is indeed very monotone. I think he knows it, and I think he does it on purpose. Shepard is a strange role for an actor. His character, his motivations, his feelings, are entirely defined by the player. Any actor who tries to put too much feeling or emotion into the lines risks alienating players who don't want the character to go in that direction.



As a result, his performance is less impressive by traditional standards, but it's the best you can really get for an unusual role like this.

Jennifer Hale does a great job with femshep, but I have to agree, the panting at the end of the lines gets very old very fast. I really, really loved her work in Mass Effect 1, way better than Mark Meer but for ME2 I prefer Meers performance.

meh, they both have some great lines and some that fall flat, both aren't as bad as what some would like you to believe, my main gripe with Femshep line delivery is when you're giving that pep talk to the Krogan, there is something off on how she says badass, the maleshep for those lines are hilariously awesome!

Jennifer Hale is awesome as FemShep, no doubt. Far and away the best Shep voice, her voice acting skill makes the whole game so much cooler.

Your right some people are impossible to please but just because some one does not share your opinion does not mean that is true and just because their opinion differs from your own does not give you the right to make insulting comments (no matter how vague) about them.

This is interesting... I really do prefer Hale as a VA and I can't get the thought out of my head that Meer is constantly sucking on a toffee. Am I wrong or does he sound like he just had dental work 20 minutes ago?

I had a similiar experience.


She wasn't bad (I think her and Meer are on essentially equal footing with it really coming down to personal preference) but to hear people talk you'd think she reinvented the wheel or something. I preferred her roles as Bastila or Naomi Hunter to be honest.
