She's frustrated and angry that she has to work with cerberus. She's frustrated and angry that she can't fix omega and that people are dying and that people are turning their back on her as if she's one of the bad guys.
I'd be pissed too.

Jennifer Hale is generally nigh flawless in her deliveries.
The only moments I've found slightly cringe-worthy are when the script fails to impress, which damages the performance.
Mark Meer on the other hand... he is usually a perfectly fine actor.
But his work in Mass Effect I find nothing short but deplorable.
Like a piece of cardboard rubbing against a concrete wall; flat and coarse in one gloriously ineffectual symbiosis.

I think Jennifer Hale does an amazing job as femShep. Some people are impossible to please...
I second this!

The main problem people seem to be having with hale is that she sounds angry even on her paragon lines. I do think that this make sense though, since she has great reason to be frustrated and angry.
I don't think she sounds angry, she just sounds tough, which I like very much. I don't want her to sound like a wuss.

I don't like her voice, not in this game. She has a violent voice, almost constantly yelling, and when she is acting on a more suave voice, she sounds like a little girl. And she always puts the accent on wrong words in a conversation.
On other hand, Mark Meer sounds like a southern USA farmer.
WHAT? Have you ever heard a southerner talk? Maybe southern Canada, not America.

Seconding this. Meer has a (subtle) Canadian accent. He is *not* Southern.
I think part of what may be throwing people off about these characters is that when the VA's were told about the character they'd be voicing, probably one of the first words was 'soldier.' Now, it's not a truth irl, but in fiction, the ideal for soldiers is usually the stoic, cool-headed type, so I'm guessing that's what the VA's were going through with the character. Truth be told, I think Hale succeeds better than Meer overall, as she keeps her character sounding military and professional but there seems to be a bit more emotion in there. OTOH, some of the delivery on Shepard's Renegade lines by Meer is just awesome. For me, the choice was pretty clear: Paragon femshep, Renegae manshep.

As for Marky Mark Meer, he's just flat and does anyone notice he always asks questions in exactly the same way? He sounds like he's starting a fresh conversation every sentence.

Everyone else's voice acting in the game is very very good (guest celebrity actors like Sheen for TIM and Carrie ann moss for Aria) but maleshep and femshep could have been way better. I think if Bioware put me on I would do really good voice acting for them hehehe
yah but generally femshep is best for paragon lines and maleshep is best for renegade lines ("Ill cut your balls off and sell 'em to a krogan!")
Are you kidding me? Femshep is WAY better for the vast majority of renegade lines.
She gets that tone of voice I would expect from my mother if I did something bad. It's ****ing frightening.

Actually, that accent was more persistent in the first Mass Effect. He sounds like a redneck.yuncas wrote...

No on both the southerner and redneck sounding. NO not one little itty bitty bit. Some of you need to go get your hearing checked. Thats not said in a mean why I really think some of you out there have some ear damage or problems that need to be checked out.

There's no doubt that Maleshep has a monotone, but I just f*cking love it. I wouldn't have him any other way. His monotone makes the character for me. There's nothing more hilarious than hearing his sarcasm. Plus, I think he did certain emotional lines very well in ME2 - the "Well, if you want we could go back and get you exiled" + basically the entire Tali consolation had more tone variance than people give him credit for, and it sounded very sincere.

As for people saying FemShep is not suited for Renegade lines, WTH? Have you even played Renegade FemShep? I have never felt she spoke those lines with anger, but rather with authority as a grizzled military commander should speak.

You will never change anyone's opinions about it. To me Hale's voice >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Meer's.

I disagree. Meer's renegade lines gave off that ring of being simultaneously angry at the universe and gleeful at causing the destruction and pain he was about to inflict. I'm not saying that Hale's Renegade lines weren't good, just that Meer's were better. Paragon/neutral Meer<Renegade Hale<Paragon/neutral Hale=Renegade Meer

Fact of the matter is, some people will always consider Meer's ManShep to be their "official" Shepard, and some people like me will always consider Hale's FemShep to represent our Shepard.

Whatever the performance would have been, there would be no pleasing people. No voice could ever fit all possible ideals of what kind of person Shepard would be in the game.
Even if it was Gerard Butler, Russel Crowe, Viggo Mortensen, Angelina Jolie or Uma Thurman voicing Shepard.

Hale is, again, good at the actual acting...but the tone of her voice just drives me insane. The forumite who compared to Christian Bale's Batman voice was dead on the money.
My only complaint with Hale is she just seemed to try way too hard to sound mean and tough.
