I would never kill the Grand Oak. He is my favorite NPC in the game. All your party members have a chance to speak up in your conversation with the Grand Oak so it is fun to change up your party to see what everyone says. I always take the conversation options that trigger the most dialog. Conversely, I always kill the hermit. The hermit is a blood mage so will give you a good fight with or without mana. Later on, after he is dead, bandits will take over his camp and you can kill them too.
Hmm learn something new everyday

No, he just says that he can't sense the curse in you and asks why you're trying to pretend to be one. You get an option of "OK, I'm (insert race)" or "you don't need to know what I am" (no clue what happens if you pick that) or something like "forest is full of dangers, wanted to be safe" to which the oak responds that you are right to feel that way. Then he proceeds to introducing himself.Thor Rand Al wrote...
Um what happens if you can persaude the Oak that you're a werewolf? Just curious, I always think he's gonna attack me so I never try, I like the Oak, he's too funny lol

I always end up killing the hermit if I have Zev with me because his lines if you steal from him or loot his tree are just too funny. He only lives when I do the Dalish quest first.
So if I've already done n finished the Dalish quest n I go back to the Hermit's camp n search his stump he won't attack me, or how does that work lol...

You can still loot the stump, but the helmet for one, is not in there. At least, it wasn't for my PC.

Afaik, once the quest with the elder tree is done, the hermit will no longer trade with your PC. So to be on the safe side, either get what you need before giving the tree the acorn back, or make a save so you can reload.

Ya he was still there for me after the quest was done, n I went to the hermits stump, let Zev have his way with the stump lol, but the hermit wouldn't attack, just said something about me doing a bad thing or something like that lol... I was looking for some more exp n playin around but the hermit wouldn't bite lol. Oh well now I know when I need to do it.
