I'm about to got through the Omega Relay,and I was wondering if itsstill safe to mine for resources and still save the crew?

Im not toally sure. When i first played through the game i went mining for some resources before i went through and I still got to save the crew. But, if i was you i would try to mine as little resources as possible. Better to be safe than sorry.

You might be ok. I had to mine a bit of something to finish someone's personal upgrade but it was only a planet or two in the same system. I've never tried this.
