Without you the game will suck
You were cut out
So they could make a quick buck
Yet another beloved companion
Suddenly disappears
But farewell Leliana
The fans do not matter
Instead we have Oghren

OTOH I understand why she isn't in DAA and so long as my romance is still alive I don't mind so much that she isn't there.

Actually, if Bioware was being fair, then why not allow us to choose who comes back (except Morrigan and Allister). They can still use the old models and with the entire "Who will you adventure with after the stopping of the Blight" thing, it should be perfectly reasonable to gain the one who you promised to travel with.
I think it's a good Idea, but then again Bioware has the final say, and they also have a limited budget.
OH, not only Morrigan and Allister, but also Sten, Wynne, and Shale as well. The only ones who hinted at joining or rejoining the Warden was Leliana, Zevran, Ogrhen, and Dog.

Shouldn't have expected her to come back... if you knew bioware games you know she prob wouldn't.
If I romanced her and it's plainly said at the end of the game that we stayed together... what valid reason is there that I don't expect to see her at my side only a handfull of months later?
On top of that, it makes no sense they'd randomly kill-off such an interesting multidimensional character like Leliana, yet leave us with a predictable, drunken drawf. I was amused by him at times, but his act got old real fast with me.
Guess I should hop on the band-wagon and suddenly start loving Oghren... since, you know, we don't really have a choice in the matter.
Leliana is mentioned to have a cameo in this http://ps3.ign.com/a...1058714p2.html' class='bbc_url' title='Lien externe' rel='nofollow external'>article. So, hopefully some explination will be involved.

I would find that sneaky little elf if it's the last thing I do though.

The constant parade of new characters {"Um, hello... and what are you doing in my camp?"} and just popping in and out of regions and relationships with little or no relation to the previous game, sort of bugs me, and at least for me detracts from my interest in purchasing sequels.
I mean if you are going to have to start over in a new region and leave all the previous NPC and areas behind forever with no explanation other than 'you can't do that anymore', I mean, you might as well go shopping for a new game as in essence this is what you're getting with any unattached, or remotely attached sequels isn't it?
IMO if Bioware wants to develop a following, hie back to the example of NWN or games like that where you not only had new characters but familar faces as well, (I could even ask for a saved slot for some NPC's like the saved main character slot so that core or select NPC's can grow progress and throughout subsequent story lines,) then it would seem more like a continuing journey and less like a completely different game... among a host of other completely different games out there.
~just my two cents anyway~

Meh, I may not know most recent Bio games well ... but I strongly remember BGII. Romances continued in the BGII expansion ToB. Given that DA:O was billed as the "spiritual successor" of BGII, I kind of expected it here as well. Further Bio themselves implied that the expansion would have romance in a roundabout way with the epilogs. Several endings have Zev & Lel explicity helping your Warden rebuild the order. What is Awakenings about? Rebuilding the Order.
All that said I don't expect to see Leliana again anymore. I will miss that voice.
This. Perhaps if more people had played that game (and its expansion), they'd know why so many longtime fans of Bioware feel disappointed (and a little betrayed, even) due to the way romances are being treated in this expansion.
It kind of makes sense for Morrigan not to return, and since I romanced her in my main playthrough, I'm (relatively) alright with that since the in-game justification sort of holds water. But I fully empathize with people who romanced Leliana or Zevran and are now feeling a tad gipped, especially after those epilogues.

I bet if you romanced her then she wont come along and you ask why not and she tells you shes pregnant
If that's so, I wonder what Zevran's excuse will be.

As far as I know, the only justification for anyone thinking that love interests would be returning is because Mass Effect did it or because the epilogue of DAO says that "x and y lived happily ever after".
DAO had a 25 million dollar marketing campaign, during which they had ample opportunity to tell us about how the decisions we make in DAO would be persistent and import into the franchise, clearly no announcements were made. So why is there any confusion?

I see the word "Betray" used a lot regarding DA love interests and their return in Awakenings. Was DAO ever marketed as a persistent series of games the way that Mass Effect was? I know ME was intentionally marketed from day 1 as a persistent trilogy.
Well, as a poster above mentioned, it was marketed specifically as "the spiritual successor of BioWare's popular Baldur's Gate series of games" - it's right there on the short game description on these forums. So, my take is that it's a tad misleading to try ride on the coattails of a great series like that if you're going leave out something that contributed to its greatness.

I didn't expect to see them in the sequel, but this is an expansion pack that requires the original game. It should have been much easier to bring back the original companions as squad mates for an expansion knowing that 100% of the people who play that game have the original rather than putting them in a sequel that has to cater to a new audience. I now have zero hope of ever seeing Leliana again apart from maybe a crappy Mass Effect 2-style cameo. And that is really, really, really sad.

Yep, I guess Bioware simply underestimates, how much people like the groupmembers. This whole "new groupmembers, new storys" thing is just stupid, most players would rather get to know the old ones better.
I really think about not to buy the expansion because of this. <_<
