Goodbye Leliana = goodbye Aubrey Ashburn?

I am hoping there will be more expansions and stuff before than because Awakening will be a reasonably short playthrough, and waiting a year for DA2 will just make me completely forget and lose interest in the game, i think/hope Bioware will do at least 1/2 more of these expansions before the release of DA2

yeah oghren is not important in origins but he is back, and now he is important in this expantion, maybe leliana can back as an important character in the future, maybe not, , we only can wait

Well, maybe to you, but there are a LOT of others who didn't find Morrigan very interesting at all. I found Leliana facinating and fell in love with her almost from the very minute she showed up in the tavern. No other companion in the game made that kind of impression or has had such an emotional bond as she has for me (and a lot of other folks). Blatently stating that she wasn't important is a sign of extreme short sightedness. And don't say she isn't essential to the story, that is determined completely by each player. In my games she is the most essential companion and I get very excited when I get close to the end of Ostagar so I can head to Lothering and reunite with her. The only reason I need Alistair or Morrigan at all is to advance the story, they certainly are never part of my normal adventuring group, ever. They sit in camp and do whatever. All I need is Leliana, Wynne, and Sten/Shale for the best group setup that works through the entire game.

Or that perhaps it'd just be easier to tell this part of the story, where I'm sure most, if not all, of the companions become Grey Wardens as well, that it would be better to leave out the love interests?
Just throwing that out there.

the major point that makes people a little edgy may be the concrete ending of origins, with the epilogue cards and all, which let you expect something different. had they handled that different, the whole bunch had been presumably a tad calmer....Ronnan wrote...

This is almost dead on really. There were conversations between Leliana and myself that ended with promises of adventuring together and being with each other after the Blight was over. Additionally, the epilogue text clearly states that Leliena stays "with" me and we go rebuild the Wardens. How absolutely silly is it that here is the expansion, all about "me" rebuilding the Wardens, and she's not there? That just doesn't make sense. This is a HUGE contradiction to no end.Haerja wrote...

I hope it will be the only major expansion.
The main writing team wrote Awakening. They will also presumably be writing DA2 -- for release next Spring! I don't want DA2 rushed any more than it is apparently already going to be.

The lack of Leiliana made just forget about getting Awakening right away, later on after some reviews. A pity really.
Shouldn't have expected her to come back... if you knew bioware games you know she prob wouldn't. I have a feeling Morrigan's being saved for DA2... it's obvious she's being saved for somethin.
Meh, I may not know most recent Bio games well ... but I strongly remember BGII. Romances continued in the BGII expansion ToB. Given that DA:O was billed as the "spiritual successor" of BGII, I kind of expected it here as well. Further Bio themselves implied that the expansion would have romance in a roundabout way with the epilogs. Several endings have Zev & Lel explicity helping your Warden rebuild the order. What is Awakenings about? Rebuilding the Order.
All that said I don't expect to see Leliana again anymore. I will miss that voice.
ToB was atypical for an expansion though. It ended a franchise's main story arc. Everything that had to be tied up had...had to be tied up there. (And this came out around the AD&D transition to D&D 3--so I think that all played into the decision to release the BG as an expansion using the same graphics and general features as opposed to taking more time, possibly switching to D&D 3, and releasing it as a true sequel named "Baldur's Gate III".)
In summary, Awakening doesn't end the Dragon Age storyline like ToB ended Baldur's Gate's storyline. Bioware is free to continue their romances down the road. And they haven't said anything to suggest they won't do it in the future.
I do agree though that it would have made perfect sense for Zev and Lel to be in Awakenings. I guess, the wardens that had Leliana rebuidling the order will have to imagine "urgent business" or a "shocking revelation" drawing her back into, perhaps, Orlais while the Darkspawn not going back underground drew the Warden toward Amaranthine. Something like that. I suppose the potential for frustration is always going to be high when you're invested in a story but left in the dark about how imports are planned to be used in the future. In general, though, the lead writer hasn't changed from BGII and some things storywise have improved. So I'm not too worried.

As much a I love Oghren (as I do all of my companions), this "you get him late in the game" is bull. If you REALLY want him, drag yourself to Orzammar right after Lothering. It might be hard, but hey, you can get him before Wynne, Zev, or Shale.
Its not even really that hard, harder certainly but definitely do-able. I did it on nightmare following the suggested path to maximise experience points and got through it pretty well. The most trouble I had was with the spider queen but I think that was because I didn't have a mage in my party with the fire line of spells.

Not really. While she does have her share haters she is still arguably one of the most popular, if not THE most popular character in Dragon Age.

I am not saying that I didn't like Morrigan, I just didn't find her that interesting. Everyone has their own views and opinions on what they feel is acceptible or even desirable behavior. Attitudes, positive outlook, interpersonal relationships, selfishness (to list just a few), play small parts of the whole on how interesting someone will be. With her constant negtative attitudes and self indulged superiority, and almost constant and obvious ulterior motives for doing things, I just don't find Morrigan that interesting, due in no small part to my own values in real life. I am "not" saying that the character she is or how she was portrayed was wrong or bad, I think they did a really great job with the character! She just doesn't trip my trigger is the bottom line. And yes, there are a lot of others that Morrigan just doesn't trip their trigger either, doesnt mean she isn't popular,Lady of the Waters wrote...

This is a HORROR. Lilianna for me is the best Character in Dragon Age, her and Morrigan. I spent loads of time developing her and wooing her. She just has to come back. I just got Awakenings today, on learning that she is not in it, the game is already ruined for me. I won't be buying another bioware until she returns. Sob
That's kind of sad that your entire play experience is ruined all because of one character.

If not, it's Bioware, people. DA2 will have some new female character for you all to go ape**** over, and by this time next year, you'll have forgotten Leliana.
I mean, what about Aribeth, Aerie, Bastila, Jaheria, and Viconia????
That's right, you forgot about them.
