Jacob is not so bad as a character. He has a good VA, nice psychological profile. Can be boring comparing to other characters, but not utterly bad (at least he is not a whiney woos like Kaidan), BUT his romance is awful....AWFUL...and he sucks big time in combat. I just avoid him with my femShep. His conversations make me cringe...

Not to mention his loyalty mission is very tedious.

The "hate" for Jacob doesn't have anything to do with his race. He is just so boring and predictable that I want to fall asleep the moment he starts talking.

He is still a leader. And that puts him on a par with Garus and Miranda. No one else can lead your team safely.

I feel the same way about Miranda. Neither she nor Jacob is all that thrilling; neither are very well-developed. It seems to me that their responsibility for Shepard's resurrection doesn't have the impact, doesn't give them the weight out-of-the-box, that the writers hoped for. Jacob is a loyal squadmate, but he's got no flair, nothing else to recommend him. Miranda has a pleasant voice and the egregious and genetically enhanced astro-booty-- but tha (and her anxiety about being 'perfect') is about all there is.

Her loyalty mission is good, though. Heck, all of them are.

Garrus easily is the best-developed and most interesting and fun character in the whole game, spanning (and changing) as he does over the course of both installments.

Race has nothing to do with my dislike for Jacob. I found him underpowered and a liability in a fight as he usually went down within 20-40 seconds into a fight. Miranda was like that too. That is why I had neither of them in my squad.

Kanye's loyalty mission bit big chunks.

Overall, I'd definately agree. I was expecting him to get cybernetic implants or something after his.. well.. This is a spoiler-free forum, so I'm not going to say anything.

But I agree. Too bad he keeps running around with the torn armor and that he didn't have more conversations, though. I consider him a bit lacking in that department. But overall, he is still one of the best characters in the. When you had to decide for a second squad leader in "that mission", I was happy to let Garrus do it, even though I really would've wanted him with my own team.

I like Jacob. You can tell he idolizes Shepard because he's the kind of person Jacob wants to be. He borders on cynicism, but its more of a jaded thing. People aren't trustworthy, and Cerberus plays games that he doesn't find amusing. Its clearly had an effect on him. Ultimate he prefers to be direct. He speaks his mind, calls it how he sees it, and he doesn't appreciate manipulation, bureaucracy, or politics. Get the job done.

Jacob is selfless, confident, direct, intelligent, loyal to those who earn it, and experienced.

He's also jaded and a bit quick to act (Contrasted by Miranda's calculating nature).

Jacob is an excellent character, but Bioware didn't put nearly enough into his dialogue. One of the best loyalty missions.

This.

I like Jacob. He gives an honest opinion and respects Sheperd (why is saluting bad?). He is also good in a fight especially if you play a biotic thanks to pull and is a versatile soilder that can handle any role well enough but doesn't shine at anything in particular. Basically a jack of all trades. But certainly not as bad as people make him out to be.

I didn't even have a problem with his romance I found him to be very friendly and caring and much more laid back compared to the seriousness of the 2 aliens that are your other options.

Dear OP, you have convinced nobody over five years old that you aren't racist. You supposedly retract your first comment, and then continue to distinguish the character of Jacob as black above all else. You then ask for improved treatment of the character based on race, and insist that there are "black traits" that black people should have. You then burst into outrage when other people make admittedly equally, but no more, reprehensible racial comments.

The issue won't be dropped because you obviously are a racist and continue to expound racist views, and editing out your first comment, claiming it was misspoken (when it very clearly was not), doesn't change that at all. And don't give me rubbish about lack of tonality on an internet message board, because your racial attitude is stupendously unsubtle, or insult us with a fake apology. If I were you, I'd just quit before I fell behind even more.

Oh, yeah, and I thought Jacob was fairly bland as well as mediocre in combat.
