Not true at all.  NG+ takes away paragon/renegade and I've had Jack loyal every single time.  You just have to make sure you are either paragon or renegade.  You can't be an even mix between both.  One or the other... sorry.

yeah ng+ is where i get messed up. i start with zero par/ren and just cant seem to work up high enough. but when i import my ME1 paragon i start with +190 paragon points and its easy. i can even mess around with some renegade interrupts. headbutting krogan FTW

Just make sure you go paragon or renegade but not both.  You need something like 80% paragon (I don't know the renegade) in order to convince Jack and Miranda to play nice (or to convince them to understand why you chose one over the other).  You can also go talk to them later when your paragon/renegade score gets high enough and convince them you were right.  The fight scene isn't end all.... just make sure you talk to them later when your bar is filled up.

My friend didn't pick Zaeed for anything (he was unloyal)...in the end the collectors were walking over his corpse too. Got himself killed, probably did something stupid. It makes sense that people who aren't loyal to you would second-guess you I think.

In my first playthrough I sided with Jack, and lacked the paragon to get Miranda back to loyal. I didnt think much about it as I did the final mission. I sent Legion into the vents and he got his head shot off as we closed the door. Miranda was the leader of the second team.

But the point is. If Miranda wasn't loyal then she would be the one to die according to your theory, not Legion. Maybe it was becasue Miranda wasn't loyal and she had a big role to play that caused Legion to die. Maybe Legion would have survived if I had used Garrus or Jacob to be the 2nd team leader. Maybe that would have resulted in Miranda dying instead.

Talk to her after you first pick her up from Purgatory. Go into the investigate options and select the UPGRADES option. She'll tell you about the L5x implants. You get her mulitcore amp during her loyalty mission if you make sure to hack the research terminals on Pragia.

Those should make her unkillable, even if she's disloyal, during the hold the line segment.

ok guys after reading through. obviously my weak area was the defense line.

i figured being a little bit of a programmer that if bioware was being fair, then it wasn't random, nor based on relationships etc etc.

everyone being loyal except for jack, once i put people in the proper roles i should have no problems.

so aside from my original post i figured that the defense line depending on the members, had to reach a certain level of points to keep 'loyal' members alive and unloyal ones. obviously the strength of the line required to keep loyal members alive is less. lets say 10 points. and maybe 20 points to keep an unloyal member alive.

now the fact that i have everyone alive up to this point because of the upgraded normandy etc etc, means i should have enough to reach the 20 points on the line.

so looking at people you would figure. grunt would  = 5 points, some of the rest might be 3-4 points and some might be 1-2 points.

so for the final choices, i sent mordin back with the crew because he sucks with weapons which seems to be the concensus, and i took two weaklings with me, tali and somara, cause she had what? 2 biotic powers and sucks with weapons too.

this left on the line. jacob. grunt. garrus. miranda. thane. jack and legion

7 strong combat and biotics. some people say thane is weak to send him back or take him with you, but having him and miranda with me on one play through was so fast because of their combined biotic 'warp' powers which melts the harbingers.

so during my fight the status report from the line came from thane. usually in all my other run throughts it came from jack (who is unloyal and who would die) and then finally on my way back, all the survivors are aboard and no cut scene of poor jack being walked over.

so jack lives and is back in her hole in engineering, ive respecced 100 percent paragon im about half way through to full and hopefully i can get to 100 with the downloaded zaeed so i can get jack to talk. other wise she can rot in her engine room for all i care

Take Tali and Mordin with you for the boss fight, since they're the weakest at hold the line. Loyal Garrus, Grunt, Zaeed, Jacob and Miranda should keep unloyal Jack alive.

Garrus and Thane were with me again(if you couldn't tell already I like my snipers)

I had Jacob lead the other team



Zaeed ended up being the escort(I really thought I was gonna regret that) because I at least wanted one tough SOB guarding them and the rest held the line.



For the end fight I again took Garrus and Thane with me.



Everyone was loyal with conversations maxed out. End result is that everyone lives.
