So if I had 2 rounds, then I would always get +8 and then get a random amount more from 1-5? I will keep my eye on this also. I have never seen myself get more then 8, and I been using the avalanche heavily this play. Although I just started keeping track recently. I only have 4 missions left but I will watch it.

Depending on the number of rounds you had left, you would get up to 10 total. However, the minimum amount it will give is 5. You'll never get less than 5 unless you have near your max amount. You can't ever get more than your max.
So if you had 6 rounds left, you would get 5. If you had 5 rounds left you'd get 5. If you had 4 rounds left you'd get 6. If your max was 29 and you had 25, you'd only get 4.

Just thought I would mention; Attack Drones and Explosive Drones have the same amount of health bonus which is 160%. It would be interesting to see if you get an overall attack boost later on with Attack Drones or not. I was actually curious about that myself. I'm still not sure if the Drone will live long enough to do more damage than Explosive though.

One thing to consider is that If the attack drone survives 6 seconds it does more damage than the explosive drone to a single target. Since it launches an attack immediately after being cast, then 3 seconds and attack, then 3 seconds and attack and so on, after 6 seconds its done 20% more damage to a single target than the explosive drone. Unless your drone dies every 4-5 seconds Or is consistently near multiple targets, the attack drone is stronger. And seeing how I use the drone, and how it usually lives for at least 10 seconds or more, I think for the time being I'll be going with the Attack Drone.

Oh I agree with you, but the key word is IF. Either way, picking Attack Drone or Explosive Drone is a gamble as it all depends on the fight. There might be some times where the Drone dies immediately against weaker opponents or when the drone lasts a full duration against harbinger. I do think that Explosive Drone is the best bet vs Bosses such as Harbinger, YMIR Mechs and so on.

One thing i've picked up on playing the Engineer is that unlike almost any other class, The Engineer should often respec before specific Missions, if you want to play at the optimum level. I'm working on my tali recruitment video and what I do is respec out all my points in Incinerate and put them into AI hack, since A) incinerate is not great against sythetics at all and B) Overload is simply better in every way fighting synthetics.

Along those lines, I'll probably spec the Drone for specific fights. So for the End Run, i'll be taking explosive, but for Samara/Thane or other merc missions, I'll be taking Attack Drone.

So I just made this Tali Mission Live video. First try, no deaths. I don't know if I can post it, because it basically makes me look like I'm playing on Casual. Thats how much a properly spec'd engineer absolutely destroys synthetics. Also I talk about how I like to use cryo on geth, and then proceed to never use it.

Cant wait for the Tali Recruit Mission, also about the Cerberus Armor I hate it b/c I can recreate it exactly with the N7 armor, even the 10% heavy weapon ammo.

There's almost no point in using cyro on geth since overload, AI hack, and drones just lay waste to geths.
I'm guessing you're also using attack drone instead of explosive drone since Ai hack lengthens the attack drone's life a great deal?

I just did Reaper IFF and Heretic Station with avalanche keeping a close eye on ammo. I tried to keep myself low on ammo for the most part (since I am trying to use lots of heavy weapon this run) and I got +8 usually, although once I got +11.

So the lesson is, optimally, keep your heavy weapon ammo at around 2/3rd full to give yourself enough room to make some big pick ups like +10 and +11.\\\\

Also please post the video.

Skipping back a few pages to Okeer's mission: kill the mercenary chick as fast as possible. That stops the krogans from being released. I blasted away at her with my grenade launcher... it's probably the only time in an Engineer game that I actually bring out my heavy weapon.

Part 4 / The Husk Rushes, Scions, and the (somewhat) Invincible Room

In this section I fight Harbinger a second time, mainly using a room that (mostly) prevents Shepard from being flanked or hit by the scion's shockwave. I then fight the wave of husks and scions before hacking the central terminal and causing the end of the mission.

Gatsby i have a serious question. Is this your first time playing through as an engineer? If so you are a great strategist and it prob helps that you know the fights so well but to be able to adapt them to fit whatever class you're playing is amazing. You are a very good player.

I've never played through the entire game as an engineer, but I usually do each section of the game a couple times before I try to make a video. In actual gameplay, I'm past the collector ship (which means I've already picked me weapon, but I won't be revealing that until I make a video). I should note though that I did already play through the game as both a Infiltrator and as a Sentinel, so I'm familiar with all of the engineer's powers except the drone, which I've been experimenting with quite a bit.

Also, I was an Engineer/Medic in ME1.

I hate watching videos of people beating this part. Always takes me like 30 tries. Scions can hit me, always hit me, no matter where I am.

Mh, I had really good results with running up the platform to the left you were talking about. I simply destroyed the Scions before they could surround me (which was pretty easy with maxed out incinerate by both me and mordin and Warp by Miranda). But your strategy seems to work as well. Horizon isn't too hard for an Engineer (even though the second wave of the last battle was the point where I had to struggle most in my entire playthrough, but then again, that was only because I chose to fight in an absolutely horrible position - as soon as I changed that, it became rather easy).

Strange fact: The second-hardest part for me was one of the battles in Thanes loyalty mission.

I think part 4 shows really well, why choosing the attack drone might be a really good idea. It's my favourite - I usually didn't get the explosive drone working as I wanted to.

Again, great video. Looking forward to the synthetics-parts. I had lots of fun on Haelstrom and the loyalty missions for Tali and Thane - this is really the place for an Engineer to show his awesomeness.

I noticed you have Geth Sheild boost on this build. I had added that to my engineer too but seeing how note how important the Engineer's core abilites are i'm geussing you wouldn't advise taking any bonus ability?

@Roxlim:I meant Thane's recruitement mission.

@JedTed: Gatsby mentioned he doesn't use any bonus abilites at all, and only took it because it seemed fitting rp-wise.

I think if you aim for a powerful bonus ability, (area)reave would be a good choice. You would be able to deal with all three types of defenses, then. Other than that, a fitting ammo power (Warp or AP, for example) can be nice, too.

But i'm geussing you don't wanna max it out though.  I generally don't use AI hacking that much, is it more useful on Insanity?

Like others have said, I never use bonus powers on my guide videos because I try to play the class as "pure" as possible to the original gameplay design. Bonus powers are a fun and cool addon that adds a lot of diversity, but the game isn't really built considering every possible bonus combination for every class. I took GSB only because I had to take one and GSB seemed the most "tech like". However I've never used it and won't be using it.

I think an absolutely fantastic bonus power for the engineer is dominate. Dominate + Drone = Way too many targets for the enemy. And since it is AI Hack for organics, fits along the lines of the engineer MO.
