Gatsby your amazing, I did hardcore with Adept following your guide and now I'm giving Engineer a shot on insanity.



I have a question though, I notice sometimes that overload seems to explode effects just like warp even on organic enemies (did it a couple times with vorcha on Mordin's mission). However, I couldn't duplicate it successfully and I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence. I'm fairly certain its not an exploding container or anything like that though. Do you know if overload has any special effects comboed with other powers?

i think that the enemies that uses flame weapons explode after overload. For example those Pyro's at Archangel mission. In the last video it's Destroyers (they use flames that could be seen and gatsby explodes them)

This. Any enemy with a Flamethrower, so Blood Pack Pyros, Blue Suns Pyros, and even Geth Destroyers, can be instantly killed by overload. Also, the explosion can damage or even kill nearby enemies.

And then the fan art and images starting showing up, and the walls of text, and the fanfics (I started reading one called "The Proposal"...). Now anytime I go on the forums and its buggy, I just go over and look at the number of replies on the thread.


On a separate note, I have a slight issue with forming the guide. Basically, I feel like I'm almost too high of a level to properly show a collector ship run. On my adept videos I was 15. I'm level 20 right now, and it still hasn't triggered. I had a save where it triggered early but I saved over it.

So I can do a few things: 1) Just keep playing through until I get to the collector ship. 2) I can show you an Engineer with Dominate, which I feel fits nicely with the engineer (however its not as good as AI hack, even though on paper its the same). 3) I can do an Explosive Drone vs Attack Drone comparison.

I plan on doing these all eventually, it just depends on when you want to see them. Do you want to see Drone comparison at lvl 17-20 or 22-30? Do you want to see dominate on Mercs or on Collectors? Do you want to know what gun I picked? Up to you.

The final two Tali recruitment vids will be posted later today.

Very interesting stuff. I'm currently ripping my hair in frustration on Insanity. I just can't seem to catch a break, always end up getting shafted in one way or another. Definitely going to give it another go... sometime.

@gatsby i am a bit confused, i thought that collector ship is triggered after you get 2 dossiers from the second group. (Horizon after all dossiers from first group).

So you probably did a lot of side mission ignoring dossiers?

Right now i am trying that theory, because with my veteran adept i finished 80% of N7 missions before getting to horizon, now i am trying to trigger it sooner. The same thing with collector ship (that time doing loyalty missions before getting new dossiers).

It definetly doesn't trigger always after two dossiers... I usually have to do 3 Dossiers and 2-5 Sidequests for it to trigger.



I would like to know which gun you pick (I went with assault rifles, because I love the Vindicator, but I think that Sniper Rifles could be really nice, too).

Maybe you could also show how you deal with some of the harder N7-Missions - the Quarian/Varren thing comes to mind (I think heavy mechs and Husks are pretty similiar to the adept).

THEY CAN BUILD A HOUSE ON TALI'S HOMEWORLD.  Yiiiikes.

As for your next vid, I'd probably lean towards a comparison of explosive and attack drone.  Attack drone seems to be working out pretty incredibly for you, with solid survival rates, but it'd be neat to see what explosive can do at this stage of the game and if changes your playstyle the way that Assault Armor vs. Power Armor can change a sentinel.

The trigger for collector ship is odd; in my first game, I got it right after recruiting Tali and before I'd even gone to Illium; I guess I'd done enough N7 missions and gotten Zaeed to make it go.  Next time through, I had to do everything on Illium, including Miranda's loyalty.  I believe Zaeed only counts towards your dossiers the first time you access him via the DLC, and you have to have a certain number of assignments completed in addition to the main path quests.

You're a PC user, right? Have you considered using the save editor to change your level and squad points? It'd be annoying to downgrade everyone's level, but if you think being at level 20+ is too high...

So far I've done, all after Horizon, Tali's Recruitment, Thanes Recruitment, Miranda's Loyalty, Zaeed's Loyalty, and Jack's Loyalty. I'm going to do Samara's Recruitment, and then for the first part of the collector ship I'll talk about what abilities to rank up first and whatnot.

 I finally got collector ship. Wow. What a beast of a mission. I'm going to be doing this run a bit more before I post anything because Engineers have it rough. No doubt this class has the toughest time with platforms.

Also, no shotgun for engineer. I was hoping it would work but it doesn't. I've been trying to make it work every which way, and I just can't recommend it for any reason. Engineers just don't have the survivability to get in close enough to use it, even if you use combat drone like I do. I even set my armor to max out shield and health, then I tried cerberus and collector armors. I'm not saying its impossible because I did it, but I will say its just not wise and results in a lot more headaches, especially on a level an engineer already struggles with.

What squaddies did you bring? I find it much easier to bring a pair than can warp bomb. Seems like the best way to go. Jacob/Thane is who I would bring and Pull+Warp to screw the baddies up.

Are you being anti-heavy weapon? Or are you putting on some avalanche pressure? 3 Avalanche shots and then a pull+warp should clear the platforms pretty well.
Not that I am telling you anything you don't already know I guess :whistle:

Agreed - as cool as the idea is, it's definitely not a really good build. Leave shotguns to the other classes (even shotgun adepts are very viable).

Have you tried sniper rifle with the engineer? It seems with Ai hacking, drone, and cyro ammo, engineers are very well suited at taking out enemies from afar.

I still like my Tempest Engie the best. Full Cryoblast + warp ammo (or squaddie inferno) let me play pretty aggressively. I tried shotgun to no avail as well. Saved sniping for the Infiltrator ;)

I don't think it would be so hard If that scion on the right could be distracted by the drone, although I think there is something in his ai that precludes distraction.  It was a lot easier on a recent playthrough knowing of how poweful the avalanche is.



Shotgun!Engineer is my favorite, who i've beaten insanity+3 times with.   I find relying on my powers for survival rather than distance to be more rewarding, personally.  But I can agree that a lot parts were far more difficult with trying to employ that strategy, where they were far more simple encounters using the AR  or SR. I suppose I wouldnt recommend it to someone not very familiar with the class, but my idea is that my favoirte things about the Engineer were sabotage/damping allow me to wander freely about the battlefield. That sorta power/safety isn't present in ME2, and i'm trying to find new things (to like) in the class using a shotgun-oriented Engineer.

just beat the collector ship prothean. what a big pain in the a**. the hard part is keeping the collectors off your back. it went like this: i fired cain before it was within range, deployed grunt and samarra to the front barrier. grunt pounds prothian with inferno ammo, samarra fires area reave. i fire cain! prothean regenerates full shields with no! 0% armor!!!. im pissed! i was 1 tempest shot from killing prothean and now ive got to knock down a huge barrier!. i lay on the tempest, samarra hits it with area reave( meanwile im taking hits from collectors). finally prothean dies. samarra dies!. thats ok. i can finally control the battlefield and take out the enemy one by one.

 So I realized I haven't put out a video today:

Tali Recruitment:
Part 3 / Geth Colossus pt. 1

It would've been a tough fight if the Colossus didn't have to fight it out with his own Geth. A.I. Hack wins again.

I'll have the final part later tonight. And maybe another infiltrator NG+ runthrough/montage. I'm currently sick with no voice so I can't do any audio guides, but I'm getting some good footage on the collector ship.

finally after many tries ive gotten past the collector ship prothean!

1) position grunt and samarra up front, garrus with incindiary ammo shotgun.
2) samarra, hit prothean with reave.
3) YOU hit prothean with reave.
4) YOU hit prothean with cain
5) Grunt and samarra engage husks!
6) YOU engage prothean with tempest until barrier is gone.
7) YOU hit prothean with inferno
8) stay under cover, lead prothean if you have to.(while shooting)
9) repeat as needed
* punch or shoot husks as needed
" stay on the high ground

after step 5 prothian was down to next to zero armor but regenerated a full barrier. (which sucked!). tempest took down the barrier surprisingly quickly. if i were to go up against prothian again, i would probably shoot tempest warp, and then cain for the kill!
