On Horizon it's the block of crates, and on the collector ship it's that ramp at the beginning of the encounter. Just position your squadmates AWAY from the fight so they don't get killed by the prothean's AoE, and then simply run it around the cover.
From what I"ve seen, the protorian regains it's barrier every time you bring down 1/4 of it's armor, and an additional time every time you get too close to it.
The key is not actually going against the cover, just make sure it's in the way of it's eye-beam thing. You can always be shooting the protorian because it's so big, a bit of it is always sticking out. Just slowly move around the cover, always keeping it between you and the Protorian. Granted, this strategy requires you to move and shoot at the same time, but it's really easy. The Collector ship one is a bit tougher because you have 2 drones and 2 husks to kill before it gets to you.
I see a lot of people having problems with these fights across various threads, and it's really quite easy once you get the hang of it. Naturally, any armor/barrier destroying powers/ammo make things go much faster.

So I realized I haven't put out a video today:
Tali Recruitment:
Part 3 / Geth Colossus pt. 1
It would've been a tough fight if the Colossus didn't have to fight it out with his own Geth. A.I. Hack wins again.
I'll have the final part later tonight. And maybe another infiltrator NG+ runthrough/montage. I'm currently sick with no voice so I can't do any audio guides, but I'm getting some good footage on the collector ship.
I love your live runs. Never cease to crack me up. Well done.

The Praetorian here is actually not that bad - as long as you can get rid of the husks and Collectors before the Praetorian reaches you, you're alright. If you can't, then lure it around the ramps and have your allies take care of the Collectors. If the ramps aren't working out for you, there's a column at the bottom of the ramps right by the cover area that you can go around. It's just thick enough so that the Praetorian won't do his melee shockwave while you're on the opposite side of it, and you can lure it in circles around the column, curving your incinerates and having your allies chip away at it. It's not as fun as the ramps, but if you're having trouble with the Praetorian then it's an easier method of doing it. Just make sure you back away when it gets down to regenerate its barrier.
I'll probably be trying out the Reaper IFF tonight. We'll see how it goes - I'm hoping area incinerate and area throw will be enough to get me past most of the husk rushes, but I may wind up having to try something else.

Yeah, the platforms on the Collector ship were a big pain. It probably took me about five tries before I managed to finally get through it. I wound up planting the drone on the scion, as while it doesn't completely distract it (at least it didn't for me) it does reduce its rate of fire. I tried planting it on Harbinger but the squad AI winds up making poor decisions about when to pop up from cover and they wind up getting annihilated by the shockwave.

i Finnally killed that thing last night. i do use the platform in the back of the room, but when the prothean gets close you have to expose yourself to the collectors. i solved this issue by training warp ammo and stripping the protheans shield with tempest smg. once down to armor i hit it with cain. i pretty much raped it before it the husks reached me!

Part 4 / Geth Colossus pt. 2
This time the infinite spawning geth didn't happen. Who knows why. Combat Drone proves its bravery.
I expect to have some of the collector ship up tonight. I've been sick so my voice is weak, so if it doesn't sound good I won't be posting.

Wow. I forgot how much fun the engineer was, not to mention how easy it is. I just got through Korlus and my new favourite thing to do is just spam Blue Suns Heavies with the combat drone, and watch them blow themselves up as they try to kill it. I still use a lot of cryoblast, trying to do more incinerate this time around, but it's hard with the long cooldown still.

You can actually run through the final collector fight with the Scion and the husks and not shoot anyone as long as you lay down your drone on the scion and use a medigel or 2. Discovered that immediately after finishing when I accidentally hit my quick reload button. I'll mention it in the video description.
I might be uploading tonight if it processes, but I need to review the comments to see if they are up to par. I really don't like dying, and I did die a couple times in that second room after the platforms right before the praetorian, the one with the terrible cover.
EDIT: Collector Platform 1 will be available tonight. I decided my gameplay didn't show enough skill or tactics (I had to medigel myself about 6 times) and I didn't like the commentary, so I'm going to be redoing the rest of the collector ship (Post-Platforms) live until I get it right.

I think I'll start it soon. I love playing the engineer, but when you have no effective anti harbinger ability combined with no survivability and poor cover, the engineer can easily get frustrating, so I'm going to put it on the backburner. It won't slow down my video uploads but I just wont be playing it quite as much.

Poor cover can be somewhat mitigated by bonus shield powers, but it then becomes a big decision when you decide to cast it. Should I shield up and hope I can get behind cover fast enough, or do I have a CC ability to take the heat off?
I actually use medi-gel defensively for restoration quite a bit. Quicker cooldown than a barrier or gsb with better results.

I thought Medi-gel could only be used when a party member was down. It can be used outside of that?
Once you have the shield restore/health restore upgrade, it can be used any time shepard is injured, even if its just shields.

I got my engineer through the endgame tonight (my first insanity run, yay). Bring along Jack - squad warp ammo works wonders on the last mission, and on the platforms shockwave is an easy way of knocking the Collectors off (once barriers have been stripped). The hardest part honestly was the valves for the tunnel - after that Jack and Mordin together for the biotic escort, and then Jack + whoever for the boss fight.

I actually already have my end game team picked out. Lets just say it'll be a surprise. I'll be using a certain power that is almost universally considered useless and showing that it can actually be really awesome. I love the final mission and have probably done it 15 or more times, including once with my adept without shooting (vid on my channel). I think the collector ship is harder simply because of the level design.

I am playing right now Engineer on hardcore (today i will do horizon) and still thinking about what class to use for my first Insanity run and it's pretty hard.
I took for my Engineer warp ammo as bonus skill and thought about squad warp ammo. What kind of squad mates would be great? Yesterday i made Jack's recruitment mission, brought Mordin and Garrus along and guess what... 80% of time i couldnt use anything they have, so I was almost completely on my own...Such a big waste of squad mates.

Hardcore feels like it's Veteran but with the addition of more defense on enemies. On insanity the damage the enemy does is ramped up, but it's not really that bad. Once you get used to it, any other difficulty tends to feel too easy though.
This. You die very quickly. For me, its all about those medigel upgrades.

Part 1 / Two ways to fight the Collector Covered Platforms
The first way is the avalanche, my preferred method. The second way is no heavy weapons. I went with the sniper rifle as my special weapon, and I'll be using the viper. I may switch it up to the incisor though because the Engineer shouldn't really be using the sniper as a primary weapon but as a situational weapon.
While this section isn't live, the remaining parts will be. I'll be uploading the rest throughout the day tomorrow.
Also, be sure to let me know if there are any particular missions or Engineer how-to guides you would like to see.

I think everybody here already saw your adept videos and they are great in the way they tell you good places for safe cover. But engineer could be used maybe some other way and have better places?
And maybe some information about squad mates synergy... what you think would be best "common" squad mate etc.
