I repeatedly see new topics with people losing all their achievements and it's a bit boring to constantly post the same fix or link to the same threads. In the hopes to offer a better way to help, I'm creating a thread with possible ways to fix it in the hopes that it gets stickied, making it easier to find for people that have this issue. As, judging by the amount of threads that pop up about it, seems to be way more common than it should be.

If you have information and other ways to fix it, please by all means share and I'll update the OP with any new extra information.

General Info:

As of right now, there is no known way to prevent this from happening. Your profile achievements are not connected to your Cerberus/EA/Bioware account or your save game, but rather to your Player1.prf file located in your "My Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Profile" directory. It is recommended that, if you are worried about this happening to you, that you periodically make a backup of this file.

If you have recently lost the achievements, there are a few ways to hopefully rectify the issue. The three that I know of are:

1.) If you have the proper versions of Vista and Win7, you could locate your Player1.prf file, right-click on it and you may have an option to restore an older version. You will lose any progress you have made on any achievements since the restore point's date, but it's better than losing everything, right?

2.) If you have Vista in general or above, you can download Shadowexplorer (google it) and essentially do the same thing - restore an older version. Again, you will lose the progress you've made since your latest restore point, but again, better than losing it all. If you need help using this program, please look near the end of this post.

3.) You can ask someone nice enough to send you their file and hope you have similar achievements. *Elzirko was kind enough to upload his profile which has all the achievements unlocked. The three post thread is located here: http://social.biowar...6/index/1133416 Or a direct link to the download is: www.mediafire.com/file/nyznjnhdtmq/Player1.prf

Using Shadowexplorer:

Install the program and run it. Please take note, that at least on my computer, the program can take a while to load and go through the directories. Please do not get impatient, as there's a lot of data the program loads. Once it's done loading up, maneuver to your "My Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Profile" directory.

As a Vista user, in order to get here, I had to click the "Users" folder from the root of C: and select the folder that corresponds to my Windows account (in my case, it's simply my name). From there, it should be pretty straight forward (Documents, then BioWare, etc.).

Once you've found the directory, then if you see the Player1.prf file there, simply right-click on it and select Export. You can export it your desktop and manually drag it into the proper directory, or export to it immediately, it's up to you. And of course, overwrite the older one.

If you do NOT see a file, no worries. Above the navigating boxes should be a box allowing you change drive letters, and right next to it should be a box with a date. This is the date of the restore file. Click on it and select an older date until you find the latest restore point.

If you need further help, please feel free to post here. If you have further information that could help, again, feel free to post here and I'll edit the OP as necessary.

And I also humbly ask that this be a sticky so there aren't constant new threads about it.

EDIT: Wish I could find a "Post Preview" function :P

Really? o.o You exported and saved the older version to Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Profile? Hmmm. I just deleted my file and launched the game, and of course had no achievements. I then used the same process (restored my latest) and had my achievements again.

Maybe try an even older version or see if using that linked profile will do the trick? I don't know what else to say, hopefully someone can help. :3

My achievements also was gone after a computer crash and no Resume the game in the main menu. Will try the ShadowExplorer see if it can help me.
Will this also help with recovering the powers you get when a companion is loyal?
Also in the upgrade panel in the game all the gray upgrade that I had not locked up is gone, will they also return?

The same thing hapend to me in ME1 and i had to hack the game to get the achievements back.

I had no luck with ShadowExplorer
Just had a look in-game and I just got the Achievements back with Elzirko profile file.
But, ,I can not switch the powers you get when companions get loyal.
And the research panel (upgrade) I can not see the "unlocked" research.

With 23 hours + in to the game I dont feel like starting al over, I will start over but then with a renegade character, but thats later.
Love the game but stuff like this gets me tired.

I had to send my computer back to the factory for repairs.  I copied the Mass Effect 2 folder and the Bioware folder on to a back-up gard drive.  I was able to restore all of my saves and the game is working just as it should, but my Achievements are gone and there is no Player1.prf to be found.  Am I just out of luck?  Will the loss of these achievements effect gameplay, or the ending in any way?

I am wondering the same thing as EmptyName above...I lost all my achievements but I have never really cared about them anyway...what I'm worried about is if this will affect the gameplay or storyline in any way? For example, I completed Miranda's loyalty mission, and that achievment is now gone...does this mean that, for example, the romance subplot is broken, or that any other part of the story is unaccessible?

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but it seemed an appropriate place to do so.

This should be a sticky!

Bump!

Thanks Skan5 for the help!

Power shortage and poof... all gone. With Win7, restore was pretty easy, thanks to this thread. Lost only a few advancements towards achievements I didn't get on my first playthrough and they are few enough. Would be angry if I had lost them all!

Still an issue after patch 1.02.  Would like this sorted before I do the Shadow Broker DLC but will survive with the one uploaded by the user above.  Hope this has all the DLC loyalty set correctly so SPOILER (no one dies on the final mission) END SPOILER

There was allso this little utility to edit acheivements, but there were some warnings regarding its use and it also might not be up to date: http://meforums.biow...33231&forum=125

Does anyone know if there has been any progress on this issue in the last five months that might be posted elsewhere.  Tried several search terms and came up ungoolucky

Hi guys,

If you want to keep your own profile file and let the game do the job for you, you can regain your achievements by making a keybinding in the Coalesced.ini -file.

There is a reasonably reliable editor to make the necessary binding. The editor can be found here: http://social.biowar...m/project/1854/

You can just start the editor and then open the Bindings Manager. There you can create the new binding by inputting the below mentioned line in the empty field and then clicking add. The binding would look like this:

Bindings=( Name="F5", Command="UnlockAchievement 0 | UnlockAchievement 1 | UnlockAchievement 2 | UnlockAchievement 3 | UnlockAchievement 4 | UnlockAchievement 5 | UnlockAchievement 6 | UnlockAchievement 7 | UnlockAchievement 8 | UnlockAchievement 9 | UnlockAchievement 10 | UnlockAchievement 11 | UnlockAchievement 12 | UnlockAchievement 13 | UnlockAchievement 14 | UnlockAchievement 15 | UnlockAchievement 16 | UnlockAchievement 17 | UnlockAchievement 18 | UnlockAchievement 19 | UnlockAchievement 20 | UnlockAchievement 21 | UnlockAchievement 22 | UnlockAchievement 23 | UnlockAchievement 24 | UnlockAchievement 25 | UnlockAchievement 26 | UnlockAchievement 27 | UnlockAchievement 28 | UnlockAchievement 29 | UnlockAchievement 30 | UnlockAchievement 31 | UnlockAchievement 32 | UnlockAchievement 33 | UnlockAchievement 34 | UnlockAchievement 35 | UnlockAchievement 36 | UnlockAchievement 37 | UnlockAchievement 38 | UnlockAchievement 39 | UnlockAchievement 40 | UnlockAchievement 41 | UnlockAchievement 42 | UnlockAchievement 43 | UnlockAchievement 44 | UnlockAchievement 45 | UnlockAchievement 46 | UnlockAchievement 47 | UnlockAchievement 48 | UnlockAchievement 49 | UnlockAchievement 50 | UnlockAchievement 51 | UnlockAchievement 52 | UnlockAchievement 53 | UnlockAchievement 54 | UnlockAchievement 55 | UnlockAchievement 56 | UnlockAchievement 57 | UnlockAchievement 58" )

After creating the binding, start the game and hit F5.... or the key you decided to use. The achievements are created and basically there isn't even a need to save the game afterwards.

Note that you should keep your own backup copy of the mentioned .ini file in case something goes wrong. Restore the backup .ini file if you experience strange behaviour during the game play.

I havent encountered any problems after regaining my achievements this way. If any complications arise, please inform everyone else on this thread.

Edit: Oh.. and I'm not sure which achievments correspond to which number. It would be great if somebody could come up with a list. This way you can recreate just the achievements you want and not all of them :)

I just finished playing knowing that my Achievements were not being saved. After looking at this thread, I see that I do no have a profile directory. I assume this related to the My Documents bug (over sight?) where My Documents was changed to another location. ME2 does not like that.

BTW, what does unlocking Achievements do for you anyway in game?
