I know there are a bunch of topics on this but I hadn't seen one recently in the technical support forum.  Has BioWare adressed the obscenely slow mineral scanning for the Xbox 360 version of ME2?

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this game.  But I recently viewed a pc/xbox comparison video of the mineral scanning and the difference is staggering to say the least.  The tedious scanning is my only big gripe with this game and is the only thing that makes me cringe everytime I play.

Yes we've learned all the little tricks like tapping the left trigger but none of it makes up for the speed difference.

Check these out (taken from a post by DaLagga on the GameFAQs boards):

I don't see any technical limitations on the Xbox's part that would stop it from matching the PC's scanning speed.  It's not like there are crazy amounts of polygons to render during scanning.  So can we get an answer on this BioWare?  Devs?  Anyone?

I'm fairly sure that the video's sped up on PC scan dude, there are a few spots where I can clearly see it. Sneaky though, slowing it down for the probes. Or course I may be completely wrong, I don't the PC version and if it is that fast...that's BS for us console gamers.

I don't think so.  Go back and watch the mineral graph's oscillations. They remain constant through the whole video even when he/she is launching a probe.

Edit: and many of the posters on that page who own the pc version or have seen it in action attest to how fast it is.

Based on the tips provided in these forums on mineral scanning on the X360, no. They will not address it.

If you have seen the bypass electronics mini-game, the X360 version has commonly 4 symbols being matched while the PC version has 5 symbols due to the benefit of the mouse. Unfortunately, there must have been a design oversight on mineral scanning comparison.

Did you talk to Miranda after the first mission to get the scanning upgrade?

I would very much like to see this patched for the Xbox 360. As of now it takes a lot of time just to scan one planet. If scanning was as quick on the Xbox as it is on the PC then I might actually think about scanning more then I do now.

woah... saw the vids. yes PC scanning is much much faster. Wonder why XBOX is slow for this. Really hate scanning using the controller.

Quite frankly I'd buy a DLC if it made the scanning minigame good. :)

It would be interesting if dropping one probe collected minerals in the immediate vicinity and then provide a deep scanning layout for a 5 square radius. It would speed up time as you would know is there is a mineral node within range of that probe. You would still have to scan the node to know what it is.

The "fast" scan doesn't change things all that terribly much. Scanning is an awful and slow mechanism in the game.

It doesn't seem to be "fast-forwarded" at all. If it was some sort of trick, the music and the noises would sound strange and/or be out of sync with the sped up video. That is not the case. Scanning is just better on the PC. It's not limited by the joystick controls. It would be pretty silly for BioWare to limit how fast your mouse can move when you're scrubbing your mouse back and forth.

My friend has the PC version of the game, and the scanning is much, much faster than the 360 version, whether or not you have the scanning upgrade.
