I totally can't remember.  I've already done the Warden's Keep quest and now I really want Starfang, but I don't have that meteor material.  What triggers the cutscene to get it?

I've been trying to work it out. Best I can guess is to talk to the blacksmith and ask him the smithy question. One game I was mapping in and out of places to trigger the cut-scene and it took over ten goes. Last game I asked him that question and the cut-scene was the first one when I next traveled.

You can get it supposedly by travelling from Honnleath to Flemeth's Hut repeatedly, though I have never gotten it to appear doing that.

It's random as near as I can tell. What does seem to help is if you don't have a lot of other random travel cutscenes available. So before Zevran gets triggered and such.

Mmmh, I don't remember exactly, but I think it happened to me just after I started Warden's Keep quest, and before I spoke with the blacksmith at the end of the mod... I've just checked a game magazine and internet, they generally say it's a very rare event, and to trigger it you just have to travel back & forth from locations.. and be lucky

It's totally random. It can happen anytime, anywhere, travelling between any location and another.

It's easiest to get early, before Zev, by travelling from Soldiers Peak to Lake Calenhad. Just keep loading.

I have had it before starting my first Blight Quest on my last 6 or 7 playthroughs without having load more than 3 times..

Not necessarily. You can get it travelling from any one point to another. And I've found no need to reload. I have deliberately triggered it by travelling between Flemeth's hut and Lothering (as well as the Soldier's Peak/Calenhad route) , but I've had it trigger elsewhere, and so have a bunch of others. The actual  locations are irrelevant.

Again not necessarily. People have reported they got the encounter, even though they did not have Warden's Keep DLC installed.

It's random.   Totally random.   Period.  I don't see what's so hard to grasp about this.

Random --   and that's all.  Which means  that   the chance of occurance will not increase if  you, for example,  keep traveling   from  Honnleath  to  Flemeth and back.    The chance of occurance  is not effected if you have Zevren in your party when  traveling from Redcliffe to Orzzamar  while hopping on one foot and singing the chant.    Nor  does it matter if  you talk to  Mikayl Dryden at 24:03 into the game, or even if you talk to him at all.... or don't talk to him.    You do not need to do Soldiers keep   to get the encounter, Nor does doing  Soldiers keep    increase the chances of getting the encounter .     There's an equal chance of getting the encounter if you've already done all the other random encounters on the map as there is if you haven't done a single one.

The place of appearence is also random.   You can get the superman encounter near Lake Calenhad.  You can get it near Denerim.  You can get it near  Redcliffe, and Haven, and Honnleath, and Flemeth's hut, and the Bracilian forest.

Lothering doesn't need to be destroyed to get the encounter.  Sten doesn't need to be in your Party.  Soldiers keep doesn't need to be installed.  Your character doesn't need to be Human.    You don't have to romance Lelianna, or harden Alistair, or recruit Shale, or save Wynne, or sleep with Morrigan, or kill Zevren, or give Dog a beef bone.  And doing all of the above doesn't increase or decrease your chances of getting the encounter.

Yeah, I've gotten it directly after leaving Lothering to after getting my third ally treaty. It really doesn't matter. I'm in-between 4 games right now and I haven't been to Soldier's Peak at all yet and I have the meteor ore on ALL of my games.

Yes, it's definately random, I got it after I left Lothering once, then another time right after I finished the first treaty quest (I did Brecillian).

yes i have had to travel for 15-20 mins to get it, but I have never had it show up until after I did the Peak quest and went back to talk to levi....he tells you about his relative that is a smith there. i usually get it pretty quickly after that tho

On my first playthrough, I got it.  And I didn't even have Soldier's peak installed!   In my current playthrough, I got it just after leaving Lothering... I hadn't even visited the party camp for the first time yet.

And in one playthrough I never got it... even after doing every avaliable quest and talking to every quest giver. (this particularly pissed me off too, as I was running that playthrough with a 2-hander and really *really* wanted starfang for him)

If you had to pontificate a reason for  our  differing experiences, what do you think it would be?   Randomness, maybe?

If you aren't against using the developer console, there is a command on it that will allow you to trigger any random encounter in the game, but I usually get this one in every one of my playthroughs fairly early on. I've even gotten it when traveling from Flemmeth's hut to Lothering on my HN right after Ostagar. It is completely random, so the only thing you can do is keep traveling back and forth until you get it.
