I myself would like to see flail, polearms like halberd or lance and big knifes like scimitar....
by the way, i never use traps and coating, just wonder if anyone of us here would frequently using them.
What new type of weapons would you like to be appear at AW? or DAO2?

I can safely say that there will be no (usable for you at least) polearms, flails or halberds.
And some people do frequently use them.

I use the coatings that stun enemies a lot since rouges get backstabs against stunned enermies if you pick the right skills. Don't think I have used any other types though.

Flail no doubt. In BG2 my Cleric dwarf used the flail of ages (I think thats the name of the Flail with the three heads you pick up at the keep.) It was his baby.
I never used traps, but I use coatings VERY often. Almost every Ogre and boss fight.

I would just like to see a really powerful axe. Something akin to an axe version of Starfang.

I would vote on a spear...

I'd like to see two hander warhammers with better stats and used a little more frequently, my favorite character is my dwarf. A proper dwarf wields Hammers and axes.

I think spears and polearms should be left out until there is a specific skill line made for them. Another expansion or DA2, maybe.
I would like to see some faster 2h weapons, both traditionally faster types and weapons that aren't coded to swing so slow.

* Bastard sword, aka one and a half handed sword, its a slightly smaller sword than the true two-handed sword but its still wielded with two hands. With a lighter slightly shorter blade its much faster than the great-sword, but still offers much more damage and range than a one handed sword. That made it the weapon of choice for knights at the end of the middle age.
It would be a nice contrast to have a fast two handed weapon.
* Halberd, one of the most famous weapons of the late middle age, it was somewhat slower but more effective than a spear, you can use it like a spear, but it is usually equipped with a metal hook at the head, if you enemy dodges your stab attack you can use the hook to throw him to the ground. The blade offers good damage against heavy armored enemies, somewhat like a war hammer.
* Spear, one of the oldest weapons, very effective against armor, very fast attack speed, great range. A light one handed spear with shield make a very good warrior, he has more range than any sword but does not have to sacrifice protection.
* Slings, on of the few ranged weapons allowing you to carry a shield. Great for counter-shooting enemies with ranged weapons. You can block their arrows with the shield but you can attack them from save positions. Something like a tank-sniper. But range and accuracy is low.
* Tower shield, great for heavy tanks protecting the body from your toes up to your head. The heaviest shield available.
* Lucerne Hammer, a mix of a halberd with all the goodies of a war hammer. It has a hook to pull enemies to the ground, you can make stab attacks like with a spear, opposite the hook it has a heavy hammer head to bust armor and bones, the other end of the shaft can be used as a spear to stab enemies on the ground.
* REAL Crossbows, real crossbows means the model of the existing crossbows of DAO should be increased by 50%, they are just too small. Another point is range, a crossbow is much slower than any bow but offers much more power to shoot heavier projectiles at longer distances. Its also more accurate.

Hey all!
Reading a lot of weapons that are already covered by the game in terms of weapon types (though that maybe haven't shown up in the game with any great frequency as yet).
I think the previous posters suggestion of a sling seems like a very good idea.
Spear (Polearm) is obviously the one most people would like added.
I'd also like to see:
- Unarmed Fighting
- Spiked Chain/Whip

A flail would be awesome. I also want to use the mage staff in melee.

Flamberge, Rapiers, stilletos, falchions, etc.
Those sound like they'd be elegant Antivan weaponry. Maybe not the flamberge though.

I would like to see double edged blade bow, which might not be a good thing, but take out the bow and you get a doouble edged blade thingy.

Spear sounds good. I would like to pierce some darkspawn on the way.
I heard Oghren talking about spears all the time but there is no spear in game. Wierd.

Cutlass of course.
And dont tell me there's not some fabulous Rapiers in Orlais just waiting for a swashbuckler to get their hands on.

I like my staff fighters, flail would be cool too, none of the weps in the game are animated though as far as I know, so I doubt they are going to make it in till the game engine gets upgraded.

Spears/Polearms/Halbred/Pike of course, but personally, I would love to see some Battlestaves as well. Not the kind mages uses, however, those Bo Staffs. That I would love to see. Of corse, if I can't have that, then Spears would be nice alone.

Spears or weapons close to it like Pitforks and Tridents. A flail or a morning star would be cool too.

I'd like to see some Asian weapons. Katana, Daito, No-dachi, Ko-dachi, Ninja-to, maybe a Yari or perhaps a Glaive or perhaps a Shaolin Spade. Now that would be fun.

Rapiers, javelins, flails, and whips. Whips totally kicked ass in HOTU. And composite bows. And to be able to use poisons/coatings on arrows or crossbow bolts.

A lance...I want to kill my enemies with a lance. Staff weapons and polearms were large parts of medieval weaponry. Why were they not in Dragon Age: Origins? I have no idea, but I can only hope to see them in Awakening.

The bastard sword can be wielded either with both hands or with one hand; that's why it's called the bastard sword: It is neither a proper member of the one-handed family nor a proper member of the two-handed family of swords.
That would actually make it an interesting weapon to include in the game: you could weild it either with one or both hands.
