as far as the bastard sword goes, i'm all for it... but 2-handers weren't really that slow (i believe that started in D&D or similar games, for "balance" reasons), it would make them useless in combat and i doubt they were just for show
rapiers, whips, cutlasses(?), staves, flails, halberds... those should all be in, as they definitely fit the style and theme of the game (unless and until the writers say that nobody in Thedas uses those weapons) ...besides, polearms just rock

to all the people asking for a katana or other obviously asian weapons... don't you think they'd seem completely alien in Ferelden.. or even Thedas? even (ancient) elven weapons are not that different from standard equipment, except cosmetically (and in my opinion, easily the best of each type)

I agree on the Asian weapons. It would be totally out of place in Ferelden and even Thedas, and would have no cultural or historical reason for being there. i don't know what the DA world has for an equivilant to the Far east, if any, but to drop them in them in the middle of Ferelden and make them usable by your Ferelden born and bred (or even Orlesian) warden without any training in wielding them would just seem out of place.
I would like to see propper daggers, since the ones in game look more like short swords and wield similarly. And then add short swords/gladius type weapons as a step up from a dagger.
Morningstars and pole-arm type weapons certainly would make sense to have in game. especially pole arms, as these were used alot in medieval society, especially for mounted combat. the game is always going on about pikes, whether putting peoples heads on them or twirling them, yet I haven't seen a single one.
Klingon swords? That just has all sorts of weird...potential.

I would think that the Qunari would have had more ornate, eloborate and "typical fantasy" designs -- as much as you can easily picture the dwarves dual-wielding thick heavy runed hammers and axes. In mainstream Ferelden, there would not be too much cultural melding yet, so it would probably be the typical longswords, maces, flails, polearms, morningstars etc. Many of the pikes etc were used mounted....of course, so was the heavy plate
A lot of the fantasy weapons you see are based on something historical -- that first dagger pic is actually a hindu design i think from the 16 century or so, so it varies quite a bit. If you are being totally "authentic" there is only a few ways they could go, that they already havent. Fun to imagine though.

Thats an old mistake, the bastard sword is actually an enlarged longsword. Its two-handed only.
Let me explain, knights in the early middle age in chainmail used a shield and a one handed longsword, as the armor grew stronger and tougher knights came to the point not needing a shield anymore. But the longswords grew ineffective against the stronger armor so the longswords blade grew longer and heavier to be more effective against plate armor. But it was too heavy to be wielded with one hand so the handle got lengthened and it turned into a two handed sword.
It was still smaller and lighter hen a true greatsword, so knights were capeable to wield the bastard sword very fast and effectively.
Another name for the bastard sword is one and a half handed sword.
Try it yourself, I have a bastard sword. I am a big dude; I go to the gym and bench press 260 pounds. But I couldnt wield a bastard sword effectively with one hand. The leverage efefct of the heavy blade is too much, I would be way too slow.

The Qunari are potrayed as being highly practical. So I think their weapons would not be fancy looking, or vain. Just efficient and right to your face.

So I thought it strange that DAO didn't have any especially when Oghren mentions about Alistair twirling his pike.
Or maybe some fist weapons like claws if they have a monk/brawler type class.

For 2h weapons I'd like to see a really good 2h axe. I've had my fill of 2h swords, and while I love mauls I'd like something different from the Chasind Great Maul.
I wouldn't expect any new types of exotic weaponry to make it. Hopefully we'll just get some better selections over what Origins had.

Really? Hmm, i always saw them differently. Imagination is a funny thing, eh?
Practical: Yes, the soldiers for sure, but with Stens gifts, it was all art, and literature which perhaps led me astray. I thought of the Qunari a blend of practicality and yet with much regard for ceremony, art, and the like. I have weird ideas in my head I suppose. Maybe it was all his talk of teas and spices, it brought to mind the middle east to me i guess, and they have very ornate designs for some of their ceremonial weaponry. You are probably right, i just picture more curved blades, hanging tassels in my mind

Actually you are right. I would assume that Qunari cities and architecture would be artistic. But I am not surew about their military equipment. Then again, even soldiers are trained to appreciate art.
You might have a valid point actually.
Hopefully we get to learn about and see the Qunari more closely.

Mad Method was closer, but for what it's worth here is the link to the wiki for how it got its name. I, too, am kind of a big guy, Woldan (not in hieght but in actual size), and have a small sword collection. I have only one bastard sword, and the weight of it isn't my problem. My problem with weilding it (for the most part) is it's length lol I'm slightly shorter than the sword's length.. see my problem? lol
