BTW, I agree with the no guns/cannons thing ... please don't ... even if you make a tinkerer class. This seems like a "low tech" world where the most mechanically advanced things are the ballistas and mechanical traps.

Too late, Qunari have cannons already.

I still vote for spears, nothing else...I'm not greedy. Well mostly non-greedy.

The only way I could see guns/Artillery style weapons were if they were a circle of magi & dwarf coinvented weapon. but rather then fireing standard shells/shot/cannon balls they instead fired elemental/magical energies.

The loading mechanism could be an alchemical chamber that when certian ingrediants were introduced inside it the chamber would alchemically bind them together to fire the elemental/magic the gun was designed to fire.

Actually could deffinatly see that happening if you helped Dagna get to the circle and got the CoM built in Orzamar.

But yeah Bastard swords we need them

How about a two handed sword for arcane warriors? I've never really been a fan of sword+shield arcane warriors and the variety would be nice.

Dual wielding shields! No really, I think that a low damage, high disabling ability talent tree would be fun.

Reasonably, though, I'd like a spear or lance. Something that forces enemies to keep their distance but still in melee range.

I would love to use the trident-net combo that Roman Gladiators were famous for. It's nearly impossible to get close enough to you yet your offense doesnt suffer at all. They would use the net to yank shields and weapons out of their opponents hands or just straight entangle them in it and stab them like a fish.

I'd like to see some Asian weapons. Katana, Daito, No-dachi, Ko-dachi, Ninja-to, maybe a Yari or perhaps a Glaive or perhaps a Shaolin Spade. Now that would be fun.

I'd like to see someone who knows anything about asian weapons.

Katana = Daito, No-dachi, O-dachi** A daito is the term for any standard sword at a swordsman's side, a no-dachi is more of a staff-sword than anything else, an O-dachi is sword with a ridiculously large blade. All of them are considered Katanas.

Ninja-To's did not exist, no shinobi ever used a blade that did not have soi.

A glaive is not asian, it is western in it's origin, you're thinking of a Naginata, a Kwan-Dao etc.

I just want a bloody spear, partisan, ranseur, guisarme, i don't care. Bioware, give me a ****ing pole arm.

*edit* Oh and you might as well say wakizashi for the ko-dachi, no one would notice the difference.

Daito is an all emcompassing term used to describe traditional Japanese made blade weapons of various lengths and uses.

Otachi (more accurate spelling) is a a horseman version of a longer katana, with a hilt at around 70% of the blade length.

Nodachi can only be described as katana with straighter curves, a longer blade and a longer hilt.

Ninjato/ninjaken/shinobigatana refers to a short sword favored by ninjas (over katana due to length). It has a straightblade.

I wished for hand and half swords  and halberds, but I guess we wont see any new weapons in this expansion.

Well, vote for DA2 weapons, maybe some Devs will take a look at it. Who knows.
Vote for your favorite weapon class for Dragon Age 2!

Spear, Halberd, Rapier, Flail, and Unarmed please!
I suppose my priority would be Unarmed > Rapier > Spear > Flail> Halberd. Also, I'd like it if the Axes and Maces to get their own animation styles for attacks.

It looks very strange stabbing the enemy with a hammer... I'm not actually a very big fan of Flails, but since they're mentioned in the books it seems kind of odd you never see one in the game. Rapier would be great for Dex based characters. Unarmed would definitely need it's own tree and maybe it could have "wraps" or something to use a modifiers for it. Spears would be awesome for support attackers, I think you could group them with Halberds in a tree as "Pole-arms". Also, it would be a great place to include a Scythe, just for awesomeness, but they could be treated just like Halberds.

I'm really not interested in "Bastard Swords" because I just don't see where they would fit in with the game. We already have plenty of large swords, and even if they look cool, I just don't see them really functioning or fitting in with the setting.

Rapiers ... yeah .... shame there is a duelist specialization, but no good dueling weapons, like rapiers, that would be more DEX-focused than STR-focused. It rather amazes me how much you have to pump up the STR on a rogue to use some of the 1H swords (vs. daggers).

Also, I think there should be a disarm talent ... the duelist spec should have it.

Bow before me and my knowledge fool!

Ahem..I mean...ah yes! A bastard sword has a big big advantage over the greatsword, its much faster but it does almost as much damage! Two handed weapons are too slow in DA so a smaller faster greatsword but wielded with two hands would be fun.
Imagine the bastard sword as a long sword with a little beefed up blade and a large handle to wield it with both hands. Its the fastest and most agile sword available and was the pinnacle of swordfighting until firearms were invented.

The bastard sword was the main weapon from 14 to 15th century for all knights, soi ts pretty dumb to not include them,

And there are pretty cool hand-and-a-half swords like the ''Kriegsmesser'', (translated: war knife) a widley used germanic cross-breed of a scimitar and a hand-and-a-half sword, with extreme cutting power and fast handling abilities. The weapon of choice of professional soldiers besides the standart bastard sword somewhere around 15th century.

*bows* :pinched:

No, actually you make a very good point there. Two Handed weapons are clearly the least powerful weapon class right now, so Bastard Swords could actually give them the leg up they need! Not to mention if they were designed like your example instead of the crazy designs that comes to mind when I think "Bastard Sword" then I could absolutely support the idea.

Although, I would suggest that for balance they could be included in the Two-Handed weapon class by default, but could be applied to dual weilding and Sword and Shield using different 1-handed use stats, and perhaps the restriction that they cannot be used in the off hand  ever.

So they could be used as two handed weapons with about the hitting power of the current two handers, assuming that two handers get the power upgrade they so baddly need, but with a significantly faster attack rate than Great Swords, Great Axes, and Mauls. With One handed use they would do less damage and be a bit slower, but still more powerful hits than your average one handed sword.

What is this... a constructive exchange if ideas on the internet!

Dont forget that we are still two guys talking about a fantasy game after all. :wizard:

I would love having the gap between one handed weapons and two handed ones filled with hand-and-a-half weapons like the bastard sword / hand-and-a-half sword, medium war axe......they are still all two handed weapons, but smaller faster ones doing a little less damage than the true two handed versions.

Cool if Conan can be in the game?

I think there could be some intell. property issues with Age of Conan, but ...

I'll take him if we also get the Grace Jones character too.

No, Dragon Age isn't Hyboria. That said, I'm sure there's a good Conan ripoff somewhere amongst the Chasind.

So, does anyone have any ideas about Unarmed and Pole-Arm combat? I figure they're the trickiest ideas since Bastard Swords just fill the middle, and Flails and Rapiers can be fit into the existing weapon usages rather easily.

I suppose Bioware must have some ideas about Unarmed, unless they're going to make Utha use weapons... No, must be unarmed.

Also, I am against the inclusion of Eastern weaponry into the game. The Dev's have said that the Qunari are more "Mayan" in their archietecture, so they're clearly not going to be Eastern inspired, and I can't think of any way to realistically bring it into the game. It just seems unnecessary. I mean, you can have one "Ancient Weapon from an Extremely Distant Land" or something as a special item, but I don't want an abundance of them.
