I'm just disappointed that ME2 was not marketed to a wider audience. It's a great story and a fun game.

I just don't understand why games have to be rated "M" at all. It's just beyond me, I suppose. Will people not play it if it doesn't have sex, drugs and strong language in it? I mean, people aren't all like that, are they?

I understand that the game is meant for a certain audience, so there's no point in complaining. I just don't understand why.

Why games have to be rated "AO"? Same reason I guess.

Will people not play it if it doesn't have sex, drugs and strong language in it?

What about violence, hmm? Will people watch movies with no sex, drugs, strong language, violence, etc.? What about books?

Kessel means that he doesn't see the point of violence and every other mature theme in games, not just cursing.

I won't doubt that people would still play ME if it didn't have sex, drugs, violence and strong language, but I would say that these elements are there to make the world of ME a bit more realistic. In general it's okay for me that people think that certain age groups should not come into contact with such elements, but asking to make them non existent in games (or other media) at all is something I can't accept.

Besides, I'm not to sure that ME's story itself is something for all ages.

I'm not asking to have them taken out.  I just don't know why they're in there in the first place.  For someone like me who really really wants to play ME2 but doesn't want to be made uncomfortable by the content, it's a little aggravating.

The story is essentially good versus evil, every great game and movie has that very theme.  It may not be for all ages, but the content does alienate certain potential game players.

Why not remove the shooting and violence as well? Shepard uses the carebear stare and the krogan Blood Pack mercenary suddenly realizes the futility of solving problems through gunfire. Both then proceed to share a Budweiser healthy can of fruit juice and talk about achieving galatic peace through mutual understanding and love.

Hey, then we can market Mass Effect to the kids as well. Mass Effect, rated E for everyone.

Basically.  However, personally, violence doesn't cause me discomfort.  Gratuitous blood and gore are iffy from my point of view(prefer Halo to Gears of War, for instance).   The rest of it could be left out, as far as I'm concerned.  Maybe not to other people, but to me it serves no purpose.  It's superfluous and unnecessary.

It annoys me.  Like mosquitoes and bad driving, it just annoys me.

Drugs and swearing fine.  But sex/love superfluous and unnecessary while gratuitous blood and gore just iffy?
I'm so the other way inclined: make love not war! That games like fallout 3 where you watch bullets in slow motion somehow cause heads to sever off are fine while that harmless love scene in me1 had everyone up in arms is just crazy.

Yes, taking the violence out of a shooter/rpg, would defeat the purpose.  But that's not what I'm saying.  I was just using the list as an example.  Most of those things don't annoy me to the extent that language does.  I'm a practitioner of proper English.  But I realize not everybody else has the same ideals as me.  And like I said, I'm not complaining.  I'm just brining up a subject that it pertinent to me.

And that's totally cool.  I'm not saying you're wrong to think that way at all.  I'm just really selective about the games I play.  Maybe too selective.:D

Dammit, the solution is simple. If you don't want to play a mature game in which actions could cause characters to let out some expletives, don't play those games...

Hey, now, some people are like the US: they want to have their cake and eat it too.

On a swearing-related note, to quote Eric Cartman:

"What the **** is the big ******* problem, ****?"

The problem is, I actually want to play ME2.  That's why I'm posting in this thread.  I want to play it to continue the story I started with ME1.

It's like not being able to watch The Empire Strikes Back because it's rated R...metaphor, I kow it's not rated R.

Cartoons, like games, shouldn't cuss. B)   South Park, in a nutshell, is everything that's wrong with the world.  Vulgarity, depravity and blasphemy all in one neat little package.  Oi, don't get me started. :D

Given the sorts of games out there it's definitely better to be too selective than not selective enough. While I admire and in principle agree with your stance against swearing and drugs and sex when used in a bad way, it just doesn't seem consistent to then be ok with violence and gore and not with sex when used in a good way like in ME.

Anyway. It's about time for me to get off. It's been fun talking to you guys. Thanks for letting me vent. I had to get all that off my chest somehow.

Adios.

Well, I'm actually very old fashioned when it comes to sex, so the way it's used in ME isn't really okay with me.  And my intention was that mild violence is more acceptable than blood and gore.  People getting blown to pieces or ripped apart while we watch isn't my idea of entertainment.

I wouldn't, actually.   They can do whatever they want, far away from me.  And my intention was never to try to ask someone to do something they didn't want to do.  My intention was only to share my opinion, because apparently, it's not a common opinion.

I'm sorry, what is the rating on this game? M for Mature. Would you play Grand Theft Auto in front of your kids (if one even play that game at all?), probably not. This is no different. It has, albeit tame, sexual situations, a guy killing a man in cold blood, "strippers", etc.

The point being, don't play anything in front of your kids that you would not want them see in TV.

And if they will, I will find you in your sleep.
