(Im sure there are a million threads on this allready, but i paid my fifty bucks and feel the need)
Great game (one of the best RPG's released in the last few years imo), it has its quirks but after loading it with mods those are all pretty much rectified. There is one thing i cant overlook though....
WORST MAGE CLOTHING/ARMOR EVER!
I dont know who was put in charge of this stuff, but the outfits are an absolute eyesore, granted im not very far into the game (12 hours) so maybe it gets better? And what is up with the hoods/helms? Are you serious? Whoever designed this stuff/gave it the ok should be taken out back and shot. If the rest of the game wasn't so good/the invisable helms mod, this would have been a deal breaker for me. During the 12 hours ive played im constantly looking at my Mage and wondering if at some point he will abandon this quest and try to join the circus.
Got the game a few days ago....

The mage's gear starts looking a bit better later in the game. They do not have a plethara of different looking outfits though. I agree with you about the helmets for them . . . they are almost funny looking.

Yes, very funny about the mage outfits... although i sort of enjoyed the certain Robes on Morrigan and the certain Armor on Leliana... But if you think the Robes are funny, wait until you try on some of the Cowls... There's one in the Mage's Tower that looks like a lamp shade (to give you the correct perspective).
Personally, i think the funny clothing is a conspiracy by the Chantry to prevent people from taking the Mages too seriously or considering them too much of a threat... Of course, i'd like to make them eat this sentiment... but then maybe the Chantry will become more afraid of Mages than they already are... ahh... the choices we make...
thanks for the laugh.

What's wrong with the basic mage robes, exactly?

No, no! The headwear is a direct measure of a Mage's power! The size indicates one's finesse over arcane manipulation!
Irving himself has a coat-rack for a hat. Truly awe-inspiring.

For some reason, Bioware put all its creativity into various kinds of plate mail. The light armor mostly looks the same, although the same suits of armor may be inexplicably midriff-baring on female characters. And yes, the mage clothing is dreadful. Perhaps they were trying to make it clear why the Orlesians are always babbling about clothes--Ferelden is a fashion tragedy.

They aren't so bad.
What mage clothes were you expecting? The flowing robes of the past DnD games?

Mage's wear ugly robes, so that when the enemy is pwned, all they feel is utter shame.
And Arcane Warrior lets you wear armor, if you want.
