Anyone who says Mass Effect 2 gets kicked in the quad.

Anyways.

Worst sequels I've ever played?

Probably Deus Ex Invisible war.  Man what a letdown that game was.

Do expansion packs count? Because in that case, NWN2: Storm of Zehir.

All of the Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles sequels have fallen far short of the original.

Genuinely intriguing topic this. I'll plump for Age of Empires III. Bought it on release, but within 20 minutes I'd decided I hated it. Not because it was an awful game either really, just because Age of Empires II has absolutely ruined me. I haven't been able to play other RTSes since. Absolutely nothing compares to that slice of perfection that is AoE II >.<

Mass Effect 2.

Okay, really...

I'll second Storm of Zehir for want of a better option. (It was okay for what it was, but not impressive by any means.) I *know* of many bad sequels, but I never played any. Usually I find out about them beforehand and avoid.

KotOR II. BioWare should've kept the title.

Fable 2, huge letdown from the first one. I could probably think of another one, but this is all that comes to mind.

How can you say that? If there was a thread for 'Worst ever new IP' I would put Fable right at the top of the list. It took Fable 2 to come along and give the whole world some proper structure, vitality and value. Fable 2 is the game Molyneux promised us the first time around.

Yeah, that's what I was gonna say. I never got "in the zone" while playing Fable 2....that's why I traded it in relatively early and almost got all my money back...Maybe I never gave it enough of a chance, afterall I never beat it, but oh well...it'd done.

Mass Effect 2 and Half-life 2: Episode 1. Tough to say which is more disappointing at this time. I'm sort of leaning towards Episode 1. I didn't really expect too much from it, but it ended up being an hour of doing nothing. Mass Effect 2 was enjoyable at times but I had much higher expectations. Bleh, should know reviewers are useless after Oblivion.

Fable 1 atleast had a decent storyline with an average villain, Fable 2 just felt too... bleh.

The no mana thing got to me, as did the you-can't-die-lol.

^^ Good choice. I never got to play that one, but I heard terrible things about it. A true disappointment after playing the heck out of Gex on 3DO.

My games that I am putting down are mostly JRPGs. And this is because after really 03 most companies had a change of staff and moving up a New Generation of Japanese Game Makers who took over flagship titles for developers and ran them into the ground with their new direction they used in failed games they made before but they thought using a good name will then people would like their system.

Suikoden IV
- Let’s take over this series and use Silent Hill’s engine and make a crappy 10-15 hour RPG which mainly consists of long dungeons compared to the past games which the games in the series were known to last 50 - 70 hours. Thankfully Suikoden somewhat survived. As an apology, they brought back the old team and made Suikoden V which had WAY MORE STORY 70 hours long and it never got old. At times in this game I was expected to be disappointed 30 hours in thinking it was going to be over soon, I was wrong.

Breath of Fire V Dragon Quarter - Not only did they use the most unpopular art style in gaming known as Cel Shading they made a popular HEAVY story orientated series into one long Action Game with little or no story. For those who don’t know Dead Rising actually uses the same system as Breath of Fire V Dragon Quarter. You die, you start over at the same level. You objective in this game is to get to the surface in a certain amount of time or die. It was really bad it caused an old RPG Franchise to die forever.

Xenosaga II - WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING? In Xenosaga there was a power struggle with the director who came onto the project and the woman who wrote Xenogears and Xenosaga. This guy from the New Generation of Japanese Game Makers wanted less story, more dungeon crawling and to make shops non existent.

Eventually she person who made Xenogears, and Xenosaga great left and the director pretty much ran a series which was supposed to span 6 Epoisdes into the ground in which they let some of the old staff back to win back fans. Xenosaga 3 was okay but they sadly let this director back to finish off Disc 2 which was the worst part of the game sadly. They whole situation caused Yasunori Mitsuda who is known for his great work in Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Cross and many other games not to even write a score for Xenosaga 2.

Final Fantasy 12
- In my mind Yasumi Matsuno is the Anti Christ. Final Fantasy’s creator had surprised every Final Fantasy up until X - 2 but this time Square Enix or Enix with it’s controlling share decided to give the helm to Matsuno. Again this is another game were the staff was against each other. You had Matsuno’s people and the people who have been working on Final Fantasy forever now it seems and that side came out and explained the huge internal bickering and they admitted as well Final Fantasy 12 was a disappointment to even then.

In this series we were always proud to be different people who didn’t like Final Fantasy all of a sudden loved Final Fantasy 13 but really didn’t play that even as much but it was better because it was a dungeon crawler. I hate this game and this series now, all people want is the old Final Fantasy games remade with updated graphics because Square Enix’s current development staff sucks and Square had to outsource the remakes to be done by Matrix which did the right thing in bringing in the old staff too see they were made the right way. Final Fantasy 13 please crash and burn

Oh yeah Vann was the only main character Final Fantasy 1 - 12 not to be represented in the new Final Fantasy fighting game lol

We should mention whether it is because they were horrific, or the game before was just too good.

Of course. The guy's a weakling with hardly any story to speak of compared to everyone else represented in Dissidia. This, combined with the fact that the License Board could make him into whatever you wished him to be pretty much made him the least defined main character in the entirety of Square's history.

Pyroclasm. That's the only badass thing about him.

Honestly even with the crazy amounts of mods for the game out there it still really is a horrible spreadsheet game.

Pious, you can't talk about a game that hasn't come out yet, this is a thread about games that you have actually played and can form a real argument against

as for me, worst sequel would have to be FFX-2, i don't think i need to repeat my flaming of that
