I usually use the SMG on him when I lack one of the above, but I don't really see the point you're trying to make.

How the frick do you fire it?

Standard procedure is to take it to a test-world, one that doesn't show signs of having native life on it. Then hold the trigger button down until the weapon is fully charged. Then duck behind something while your screen goes white and the controller goes BRRRRRRRRRRR and shakes like mad.

Then you take your first breath in several minutes, shakily yet reverently take the weapon back to the Normandy, and never, ever, touch it again.

It is possible to get to 200%, with full heavy weapon ammo upgrades and cerberus armor. 2 nukes, and like 5 widow shots took down the reaper at the end on my hardcore soldier run.

I managed to get it at 175% of power ... at this level you can only fire one time, and I think it is the maximum you can get. You'll need 25 % more to shoot again, how frustrating :-( .
I haven't tried the items that provide a bonus to the heavy weapon ammo count... I don't think that it is possible to push it to 200%.

I actually did have 200% on my last playthrough of the endgame mission(!!!).

And I'm not sure how I did it...  I must have had every bonus armor piece and whatever related buffs the game has in place.

The funny thing is, I only fired it once anyway.  The end boss was whittled down to 10% and I finished him off with assault rifle fire.

(Of course, I AM playing on Casual...)

That's good to know, thanks =)

On insanity mod , the boss will loose a little less than 1/4 HP with a Cain's hit., if it his full life.

If you shoot it while he's already hurt, he will take more damages... But i'm not sure at 100% about the info.

Note, you'll probably have to get the Heavy Weapon Ammo upgrade from the Save the People route on Zheed's mission if you want 200%. Go after Vido and you get an assault rifle upgrade instead.

I usually use the SMG on him when I lack one of the above, but I don't really see the point you're trying to make.

get the reverant (dont know how to spell it) fully upgrade it and use armour piercing rounds takes out most enemies quickly and when accurate makes mincemeat of the final boss

You can't get the revenant unless you're a soldier, and I generally play vanguard or infiltrator.

Yeah, it's realy important to save that heavy weapon ammo for the next fight after him.

RighteousRage wrote...

Probably because you can only get enough ammo for one shot

Nope, it's possible to get two shots off .. there are 7 x heavy weapon ammo upgrades in the game.

How do you figure that?  It's really useful in a few tough spots, like the Geth Colossus, the Scion on the platform in the Collector Ship mission, and the Geth Prime at the end of Tali's loyalty mission.

(Yes, before the epeen come out, I know you can do all those spots without it, and I have, but there's no denying it makes them easier.)

I usually play on casual, now starting a hardcore run.

ON CASUAL

Great to take out colossus on Tali recruit mission.

Two Shot final boss.

IF you are careful take out the Flying minibosses Praetors(sp).

Once I get Cain, it is the only heavy weapon I carry.

Now this may change on my new Hardcore run and the insanity later, but for now it is awesome.

I love me some Cain. I try to go the entire game without using heavy weapons so I can use Cain against the annoying ones like the Thresher Maw and the last boss. Theres nothing quite so satisfying as hearing it charge up, then a brief silence as I duck behind something and wait for the BOOM!

Honestly though, I think the problem he's had is that 1) You have to hold the button down to charge it. And 2) he probably doesn't have enough ammo.

The point is that the upper-end sniper rifles and assault rifles are like a billion times better at dealing damage than any of the heavy weapons when they're fully upgraded

Reliably, maybe. The Cain will always do more than the Widow ever canm and it's not like you can't just, say...tap X.

Here is a video on how to put CAIN to really good usage...
*If not got to a mission involving the IFF, this might contain a spoiler*
Core nuking!

I edited my post too late :(...
The cain isn't truly the best option on insanity if you want to rely on an heavy weapon during more than one fight.
The collector beam stuff is quite handy in many situations.
But i personally hate the look of that weapon on shepard's back.. It looks too much "organic" while shepard's armor looks high tech.
Well , i guess it's just a matter of taste.

I generally don't bother with heavy weapons. I'll just toss the grenade launcher on all the time because it looks the best. But the Cain is just too cool to not use it at least once.

Oh, that's right .. the Blood Pack Coms Relay also shows one as a reward, but doesn't show up on the research terminal, I stand corrected.  Fully upgraded with an armour bonus, it's still possible to get two shots off though.

It's even more fun when you use Tactical Cloak for +75% damage.

Not sure about higher difficulty levels, but another quest CAIN is darn useful for is the 20 crates mission on Daratar. Because on Normal you can nuke all 3 YMIR mechs at once right at the start... to make it one of the quickest missions ever.

@Talogrungi, yeah that probably handy on higher levels, but on Normal as it shows in that video, it's a 1-shot kill :)

Ah, ****. The heavy ordnance packs. That's what I was forgetting.
