How the frick do you fire it?  I've only whipped it out in extreme circumstances and managed to shoot it, and ended up killing my two team members, so how does it work?  Tap the R tigger, hold it down, what?

The very first time i tried Cain, i was wondering why it never fired. Then i noticed it was at 75% charge :P

Now i carry it exclusively. The animation of everything (except 2 turning to dust is just too good)

To use Cain with no issues, note a point you want to fire at then stand behind a tall cover but don't go into cover (as in you don't tap spacebar or whatever x box button). Start charging. When its about to go off (you should know by the sound), sidestep out of cover, then fire.

Everything dies, move to next stage

I have the code, but never registered it. It seemed like some Overpowered bull**** to me.

The Blackstorm is hardly an overpowered weapon once you actually get to use it. It's an awesome weapon sure with the singularity effect, but given its limited shot capacity compared to other Heavy Weapons (which limits practical use in a long mission) plus the charge time almost similar to the Cain's combined with its slow projectile speed making it useless against moving targets like Praetorians, the Blackstorm is a weapon that at best is a novelty. The only time I found the Blackstorm useful was against the Vorcha in Mordin's mission and against Husks.

Oh, maybe I'll try it then. =P

Blackstorm is okay, but Cain is friggin' awesome! Just don't try to use it when under heavy fire, the charge-up time will gett you killed (or do as Computron2000 suggested, standing behind but not in cover). Aim at a place as far away from you as possible, making sure your teammates are behind cover or behind you.

I've used both Cain and Blackstorm on N7 missions, Reaper IFF mission, as well as Jacob's and Zaed's loyalty missions. Most main plot missions I prefer to take Missile Laucher for greater ammo and to cover the spectrum of useful situations. (Even with all additional ammo carrying boosts from armor, you don't get more than one shot with Cain) Heavy mechs, Geth primes, Praetorians, etc. are better taken down by the Widow sniper rifle.

Yep, you have to have it at or above 100% charge, then hold the trigger down for about 5-6 sec for it to warm up, then pray you're out of range.

I died twice before I realized that I was too close!

Actually, if you use heavy ammo capacity enhancing gear and get every upgrade you can pull off two shots with it.

I managed to get it at 175% of power ... at this level you can only fire one time, and I think it is the maximum you can get. You'll need 25 % more to shoot again, how frustrating :-( .
I haven't tried the items that provide a bonus to the heavy weapon ammo count... I don't think that it is possible to push it to 200%.

You can push it to 200%. There are 6/6 ammo upgrades (some of them require you complete N7 missions) for an extra 90%, and then there is a leg armor slot with 10% more heavy ammo (like the arm ammo thing) pushing it to 200%.

I love the Cain. Time it right and it will wipe away all your troubles. Even on Insanity it will take a Praetorian down to 20% armor in one shot (as long as it doesn't have a barrier), it will wreck a YMIR in a direct shot, and seriously hurt them with even splash damage, and it will destroy the Reaper Eezo core in one shot on most difficulties, and make baby Reaper very sad indeed.

You have to use it a few time to jusge the charge/release time, but it you're good at leading your target its a great light show.

It's a sweet weapon, just make sure you are at range. With all the heavy weapon upgrades and ordinance packs you should be at 200% ammo. It takes 100% ammo to fire it ONCE. Its a blast to launch it at the Thresher Maw...also the mission where the YMIR mechs are destroying crates, fire at the center one, and it and its friend will be almost dead, leaving only one YMIR, making that missions cake on insanity instead of impossible.

It's super gratifying to inflict enormous damage with it, but other weapons are usually more practical. Finding the Cryo weapon to be amazingly effective in many different situations.

Yeah, I think the reason it takes a while to fire and doesn't get more than two shots is ... because it's insanely destructive?

I mean, without it, the Geth Colossus would've been a pain. Instead it went down in a single blast. Victory!

First time I used it, I incinerated the 2 Heavy mechs in Garrus's loyalty mission. I used it often.

Playing on insanity, I tried to nuke the Praetorian on Horizon. Blew myself apart the first time, and then second barely took any health away.

The M-490 Blackstorm is a preorder (Gamestop only) item, along with the terminus armor.  It's an area damage heavy weapon that fires a singularity, a.k.a. a mini black hole. Once fired, it goes some distance and stops, then starts pulling enemies into it for a second or two, then explodes causing additional splash damage.  It's not as powerful as the Cain, but takes a little less charge-up time and you easily get in several shots per mission when you have upgraded ammo capacity.

It will also eat shields and barriers if you get the shot in the neighborhood of an enemy with them.  If you really nail the placement, it can eat them pretty quickly, too.  And then it explodes, often leaving them with just health, and just health pretty much equals dead.  If they were already unprotected, it probably just killed them.  It's more useful than many give it credit for.

I know there are far more practical weapon choices for heavy weaponry, and I probably fired this thing a grand total of 6 times, but....I just love how epically it concludes a battle, especially a big one. Using it on the Geth armature and having Kal'Reegar punctuate the explosion with his battlecry was just too sweet for words.

I did enjoy using it to two-shot the Reaper, too, even if I have to reload a few times due to misses :P

OR, if you're like me and you're a bit of a cheater... hehe. You can modify the Cain if you're on PC. I tried balancing it so that it tipped more towards my favor without making me a nuke-launching god. I currently made the Cain only eat up 25% of its energy (but due to the game forcing the Cain to only fire at 100%, It multiplied the full-energy amount to 400%), so now the gun can fire more than one shot (which compensates for my horrible aiming) while still requiring a lengthy charge time. But just for fun, I once made it so that the damn thing can be overcharged to 3600%! Hehe, needless to say. Nothing was left alive in the hail of neverending fiery explosions.

You can do the same, assuming you have the PC version.

I've only used the Cain once, and it was on the Reaper at the end of my Insanity playthrough. Was a real pain trying to hit the dang thing, though. Didn't have enough ammo for a second shot, but didn't have any real trouble finishing it off with my other weapons.

Once you go Blackstorm you dont go back. True story.

Only heavy weapon I use, best in every situation on insanity. Not only does it totally destroy every type of barrier, shield armor, it staggers all enemies within radius until the blast goes off. And anyone left standing is either half dead, almost dead, or has small bit of armor ready to be taken out.

The one time I ever used the Cain was on the derelict Reaper. I chucked a round into the reaper core and I was just close enough to lose my shields but no health. God that was awesome. It was like staring into an exploding star with my Shep silhouetted against the blast. Wish I'd taken a screenshot. =(

youre not supposed to "aim" it anywhere, you just launch it away from you and your team. it has a huge blast raduis, so as long as its pointed in the direction of the enemy, it should kill everything on screen in that direction.

if im indoors, i usually aim it at the ceiling above the enemy and let it detonate above

ooh, yeah, I almost forgot using it there..I was getting hammered by the Praetorian and stupidly got myself too far from cover, so I whipped it out as a last ditch and hoped for the best....the silence afterwards was the best part.

edit: oh I'm getting the Collector Ship and the Reaper mixed up...either way, it's still fun as crap to use xD

you have to hold it down, the first time i used it i killed myself instantly because i was just a little to close quarters but i used it again after that to destroy the reapers core when i acquired the IFF.  destroyed it in one shot :).
