Personally I think they are two different games that is challenging to compare. DA:O follows the traditional RPG elements while ME takes on the RPG/Shooter hybrid.

I loved DA:O for it's characters because they place so much 'flavor' to the games. I loved ME2 for it's fast paced action.

If I had to vote, it would go to ME2 because I think it has replayability due to the different classes you can play Shepard as. Each class offers a different approach to play the game specially on Insanity. Plus, I can't really play for long hours because of work (even on weekends) so the fast paced action appeals to me more than the dungeon crawling offered by DA:O.

I'm surprised DAO did so well frankly. I always thought of it as the "backburner" game made by the inferior team, like Call of Duty 3 and Treyarch compared to Infinity Ward. Obviously production values were not as high, and the story is just about the most cliched Tolkienesque thing ever, the interface is possibly even worse than Baldur's Gate 2, so I was amazed when I heard how well it was selling.

I preferred ME to DA, but they're kind of different games. I mean, DA is more tactical and complicated with the combat, and ME is a bit more easy to understand quickfire FPS-ish combat.

ME also has a more original story I guess, which I enjoyed. Also, whilst DA being more complicated might be good for some, it does mean that having not played for a while it's confusing getting back into it.

Because Dragon Age was garbage. Useless classes *cough*Shapeshifter*cough*Reaver*cough*. A horrible skill tree, seriously... you guys can accept that a final tier skill is worse than a tier 1 skill? The story was garbage cliche' drek, and overall if I wanted to play a good dungeon crawler I would just re-install Diablo 1+2 and Dungeon Siege 1+2. Dragon Age was a waste of hard drive space and got deleted after my second forced playthrough.

I'd say two playthroughs is actually quite good mileage for a fairly long RPG like D.A.

Both games are fantastic for different reasons.

But I prefer Mass Effect simply because I feel that it creates a more interesting universe that stands out more from other games. DA just feels like a fantasy RPG. The world doesn't has the same unique character of the ME universe. But that's just my feeling.

I also much prefer having a main character who has a voice/personality. In DA everything feels a bit more disconnected, because you're just a voiceless shell who occasionally makes a face at the unfolding of the plot. I'm sure some prefer that because it allows them to feel like the character is their own or what have you, and obviously its part of the nature of having so many origin stories. But I love Shepard. I didn't feel anything close to that connection to the main character in Dragon Age.

That said, I'd likely playing DA again right now if my computer hadn't fried. But I'm not too busted about having to play Mass Effect...

This.

DA:O was kinda ''meh'', to me.  I forgot it even existed.

Actually, one thing.

DA had a much better character creator. Perhaps ME couldn't have both that and decent animation, but it still strikes be as kind of a shame.

I love both games, and have played through both about 4 times a piece. I'd say I like ME slightly more since I love the universe, while Dragon age style setting has been done to death..

me2 isn't "as" buggy as DA:O. the crashes on that game just made the game unplayable for me. i've never lost interest in a game that i loved so much. just retarded. first it was the achievement glitch. then i was doing a playthrough to get the alistar rromance achievement and the game just freaked out and i couldn't progress anymore. i just gave up. sad really it was fun

I like the variety of spells available to mages in DA. I also like that I can cast a spell, and then immediately cast another spell. DA is less player intensive since I can pause the game, think about what I want to accomplish and make it happen - and it will work based on the character's abilities.

I like ME for action, for cool combats, and for that thrill when I want something more challenging. Since the skill to shoot enemies is MINE and not the character's, it makes for a more intensive experience. One thing I'd like to see GONE from ME is the ridiculous end of game if my main character drops. I'd rather a system like DA where the focus simply switches to another member of my party. That's been stupid for ME, the idea that no one else but Shepard can use Medi-gel. Just stupid.

Just too tired of "OH THIS IS GENERIC FANTASY WITH A TWIST" to even give DA a second look. I respect that fantasy has its fans but it's just too easy for it to turn into pastiche. (At least it's Martin pastiche instead of Tolkien, that's kind of an improvement.)

I like both games hence why i have them both, but i like the fighting style of ME2 better. I like to attack when i want not as much how dragon age is (Kotor style). The fighting mechanics of DA is not a downfall for me though, i still enjoy the game a lot.

I liked ME2 more. Though DA was great it felt more like a step back to your traditional RPG than anything progressive like ME2.

From my own point of view, When I picked up DA:O and started playing it, and realized there was no interactive dialog, it killed it for me, and I realized how spoiled I was from ME1. The fact that I could actually choose my voice during character creation made the lack of interactive dialog even more noticeable... I really wanted my character to talk and not just stand there. I kept playing DA:O, realizing how deep and rich the storyline was, and honestly I enjoyed the game a lot.

I really enjoyed the loyalty feature in DA:O because it felt tangible to me, like my decisions and the gifts, and my choices as to whom I gave gifts to, actually carried weight and meant something mechanically in the game. I enjoyed the results of my decisions. I love the idea of giving someone gifts in order to gain their loyalty, but only by learning what they actually desire. The wrong gift could backfire. I think that one feature was the most effective in keeping me immersed in the game.

But I missed being able to talk back so much, it hurt. I hated seeing my character just stand there while everyone else in the world could express themselves. I realize how substantial the investment must be with recording everything the main character needs to say in every situation, and I have a hunch that Bioware wanted to field test this feature and see just how necessary or valuable it was in a game... is it a deal breaker? Do we really need audio for the main character? Obviously DA:O did very well, hopefully it made a ton of money. Unfortunately for me, once beating the it, I don't have nearly enough of a desire to play through it again, or play any of the DLC coming out, because the appeal just isn't there like it is for Mass Effect. I have a gut feeling that if DA:O came out after ME2, the numbers would have been a lot different.

I love both and they are VERY different games. Dragon Age is supposed to be a return to old style Baldurs Gate RPG's with modern flourishes. ME was always intended to be a mix of intense action and RPG storytelling.

I love ME and ME 2 (the second even more than the first), but with that said I have to put Dragon Age slightly above (the different between a 90 and a 95) because I love the old school feel of it. Just my opinion.

Dragon Age's squad interaction was miles above that of ME 2's, I will say.  It is very clear there were a lot of missed opportunities with the squad and that is really my only complaint about ME 2.

I love both games, and I do have a favorite between the 2, but I won't say because this is obviously turning into a ME/DA fanboy thread.

This is a tough one for me. This sounds strange but I enjoyed Mass Effect 2 more even though I think Dragon Age is a slightly better game.

I know that probably doesn't make sense but I think Dragon Age has a bit more depth and a better storyline but Mass Effect 2 is more my kind of game.

Both Bioware masterpieces to be certain.
