Hi, I've lost my copy of DA:O. I still have the cover and the cd key. Is there a way to download it legally, or do I have to buy a new cd?

Good news. If you grab the EA Download Manager from EA's store web site, you can enter your CD key into it and become registered for a digital download version of your game - you won't get the Digital Deluxe version if you have the Collector's Edition, but since the content is tied to your BioWare account already, it doesn't matter. The one downside is that you are reliant upon the EA Download Manager, meaning it needs to be running when you play the game (I believe), and you will want to keep a copy of the executable on hand, because you will lose your download rights after a period of time (I believe about two years), unless you pay a fee.

I amost tossed my copy of ME1 yesterday, I was throwing out some papers and it was in the pile (my girfriend has a bad habit of tossing things on the desk instead of back into the cases).  I can see losing a CD asier than I can see 'losing a box' like some people claim. ;)

Remember kids, this is why you make backup images of all your CDs.

That sounds like effort.

It does take a little bit of extra time, but... frankly it's worth it.  You'll thank yourself the next time you do something stupid like run over the disc with your office chair.  It also makes subsequent installs much, much faster, since you're basically just copying the files on your hard drive, rather than from the disc itself (where transfer speed is much more limited).

Yes but, I'm lazy.  Sloth damnit, sloth!  ^_^

To be honest, it really is worth it but I usualy don't bother.  My games are either in my drive or in the case, unless my girlfriend decides she needs to use three freaking dvd drives for something <_<

Me too, it's in my PS3 right now. the only time it's been out was so I could watch a BD of District 9, and it went back in as soon as I  was finished watching that.

Thats why I've started buying all my games on steam.

It's nice to be able to buy a new computer, login to steam, click "my games", right click on the game I want to reinstall, and select "install"

No CD, no looking for a CD key, no nothing, just right click, install.

I first used steam with half-life many years ago.

I thought it was a stupid idea.... But reinstalling half-life something like 7 years, 2 moves, and 3 computers after buying it - with just a couple clicks changed my mind.

Yes!  Steam is awesome, and perfect for lazy people.

My problem isn't being lazy, it's being disorganized...

It's not remembering to return CD's to cases, or forgetting where I put the case... Or having the cases and CD's... but no CD key.

I have BG and BG2,,, mostly... i'm missing the keys for both, and a CD...

Sucks, but oh well.

Steam is perfect for disorganized people too. :) As long as you can remember your login info.

I lost my CD as well.

I ran EA Download manager, entered my CD key with my account, selected the english version, and was told I have "No Entitlements", and cannot download anything.

This is incredibly frustrating. I lost my CD while moving across the country, and although I am registered, I am left with an empty case and a booklet.

A no CD patch is usually with a crack or is a crack. And if you crack your game that = piracy which is bad and illegal and extremely frowned upon on a dev's website.

It's not piracy if you legally bought and own the game imo.

Not really a matter of opinion. It's a black and white legal decision. Just because you buy a copy of a game doesn't mean it is legal to pirate it either, contrary to popular belief.

This didn't work.  I already had DA installed from before I lost the CD.  I loaded up the download manager, put in the CD key I have in my little booklet, and it told me "7.9 GB of 7.9 GB" (indicating the game was fully downloaded), so I click the "Play" button which bring's up Dragon Age's launcher.  Then when I click "Play" from here I get the same error as before "Could not find the Dragon Age disk.  Please insert the disk and try again"

The download manager appears to do nothing :(
