I have the first 4 but so far have only read two. But so far the books are really good. They are long and full of adventure and they are pretty imaginative and dark Violent to sometimes. The second book branches off into several different adventures with all the characters but it all comes together at the end in a nice way. If you love fantasy you should give these books a try

they are good. i read the first 5 ages ago and just now started reading book 6. life and other books got in the way of finishing. i really like the series, though. now that i've streamlined what i read now i think i'll get the series finished sometimes soon. the people that don't like goodkind's politics i can sympathize with to a degree, but as much as he speaks about personal freedom it makes me wonder what you believe that one gets tired of people fighting for freedom and getting out from under tyrannical rule?

It isnt the message i am complaining about, more the way he wont shut up about it.

Nah, once is good enough, then I can put him/her on my ignore list.  It's a good thing I'm not a moderator here--I don't have to be a Paragon of Posting Virtue ™.  (Stanley Woo please ignore this post.... :P )

Excuse me while I temporarily derail the topic...

*Ahem*

If my mom suddenly died, I think you'd be a great substitute.

So, uh...Yeah. We can put the thread back on the rails, now.

Pander, there are so many books so much more mysogynistic than this you really are better off devoting your time to them.

Sure, but not nearly the same level of popularity.

Pern instantly springs to mind...

Never read any Pern, so I can't say anything about it.

Mysogyny? Maybe as a (artistic) tool to cross a point, a blunt tool, but tool.

I can't really see how that is. He has this absurd notion his books support equality, and has numerous times said this. Blah blah blah, strong female characters, blah blah blah, when the subtext is so very obviously chauvanist I have become physicall angered.

He's also just a terrible writer. I mean, read that description of the evil chicken.

I lost interest in the series part way through the second book. It was much to similar to The Wheel of Time for my liking, though I did enjoy aspects of the first book. Better fantasy books out there imo (/random plug for The Steel Remains by Richard K. Morgan).

My hubby's reading through that series right now and loves it, though he says it reads more like one giant novel than separate books.

Please elaborate, support your thesis with arguments and examples not absolutes...

Hehe. Wheel of Time is pretty much the king of "one giant novel"ness. Those are some great books.
