Is it just me, or this vehicle really looks like a space fighter?
Maybe it will carry Shepard to his final face-to-face encounter with Mr. Harbinger in Earth's high orbit in the end of Mass Effect 3? Or it will make space combat just as common in ME3 as Mako rides in ME1?

Yes that's an Alliance figher, I believe it was in ME1 as well (made small brief cameos during the final battle). This is just the first time we get to see one up close.

i didnt think they ever showed a fighter in the first one, but a couple frigate class ships, which did look very similar to that design.

I wanted to take these back to Normandy as soon as I saw them. It's not like their original owners needed them anymore.....

I have decided that they must be one-person craft, and the pilot is to lie in the cockpit. Flying one around is like aerial luge. . . sounds fun.

Space Combat in ME3.

That would be AMAZING. Would be about time a SPACE AGE Rpg had actual SPACE COMBAT.

That being said, I would hope that we wouldn't get high orbit / deep space battles with nonsensical, gratitous sound effects.

Excuse? Put is in a planetry atmosphere or a nebula. There, no we can have *pew pew pew* without complaints, and can enjoy some nice visuals as well.

It's a fighter aircraft which tend to be 1-2 pilot vehicles.

They are small but then again if you get 30 or 40 of them swarming a frigate or a cruiser then they are a force to be reckoned with.

There is information about them in the ME1 codex. Nothing new, just a close up pic. You can see them flying at the end of ME1 if you look good enough.

We already had booms on Luna in ME1 and naked people in near vacuum in ME2.  "PEW-PEW" in space can't spoil it further, so just let it go.

We had a moment of quiet during the intro.

Also manned space fighters are such non-sense. I can't see the justification, unlike space-stealth, which they at least under build with some universe logic and focusing on the actual thing needing to be hidden.
Either they build very durable and expensive craft or cheap replaceable (which means many dead pilots).

Alliance? There's 50/50 chance it's turian. Normandy has similar engines and it's human/turian construction.

It was said few times in ME1 that Normandy was human/turian construction.

quote from wiki

The SSV Normandy[/b] SR-1 (Systems Alliance Space Vehicle) is a Systems Alliance starship. She is a prototype "deep scout" frigate, co-developed by the Alliance and the Turian Hierarchy

This fighter engines look like those from the Normandy.

Sounds familiar.

Can I get it in purple?

Compare a turian cruiser to a human cruiser. You'll see this craft is more resembling of the human design. Also the Normandy was mostly of the human design (that's how TIM got his hands on the blueprints so easily), only interior compartments were arranged more turian-like. Otherwise the Turians only invested credits into the Normandy (I guess it was Udina's "fault").

The thrusters are definitely of the distinctive human design.

We know about interior because it was said so. There wasn't anything about engines and human crusier hardly resembles the Normandy. On the other hand turian cruiser has similar wings design with it's variable-sweep wing. I know that wiki shows a picture of this fighter described as Allience Fighter but I wonder if there's any kind of proof to support it or is it just wiki's author assumption.

Oh, and turians haven't invested in Normandy as a race, it was funded by Citadel Council.

Yet again, look at the thrusters.

Manned space fighters in other fictional universes never made sense to me either. Oh they're cool and all, but didn't seem practical. However, I think the ME codex does a good job of making manned space fighters seem plausible.
